So recently I played a game against a chaos army and suffice to say, it didn't go too well. There was a few unlucky rolls on my part (a few dangerous terrain) nothing dramatically bad, but I failed to make much impact of my opponents forces and so I have come to muse on my actions and ask how best to deal with the units I faced.
With the amount of terrain we play with I am used to having to deal with a large number of 2+ cover saves on most of the chaos units (shrouded etc). However today I was facing a rather nasty combination of Be'lakor (flying for 6s to hit and 2+ cover) and a Juggernaut Chaos lord (axe of blind fury, burning brand etc) with an entourage of nurgle spawn (all invisible and shrouded). These units presented a rather large problem for me with both the 6s to hit and 2+ save against shooting. My opponent didn't send much other than these units and a unit of blight drones in my direction, hiding at the back out of LoS or in 2+ cover with his other units. So I focused my fire to bring down Be'lakor whilst trying to tie the spawn in melee, both these failed rather spectacularly.
The blight drones where cut down pretty quickly but by the end of the game I had done a single wound to Be'lakor (and grounded him) and killed 2 spawn, despite the fire power I had directed their way. My opponent is now planning to bring Be'lakor in most of their games now so I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to deal with this kind of combination effectively? Besides simply tar-pitting with a beast-star or ignoring it all together.

Belakor is nasty but if he lands he's dead. Still I would take the crucible. The chance to smoke him on -1 Ld with torment GLs is just too juicy. I've been using the crucible and its hit or miss but I've taken out multiple psykers in one shot. Do it once and he will fear it.
I would also fit in some instant death weapons like flesh gauntlets. They're great at killing units like spawn, flesh hounds etc. A pair in a unit is scary for any multi wounds model especially daemons.
All these suggestions go well together in grots but also min sized wracks in a deep striking raider in the case of the crucible as an alternate deployment. Remember he just replaces his shooting attack so you can move 12" replace his snap fire and take a shot at belakor although optimally you want to be within 6" for the tgl. Also you won't always want to disembark the bearer so get him a liquefier for drive bys.
I'd post more but I'm on my phone. Hope that helps.

The best way to deal with this is to get a Farseer but ew non Dark Eldar stuff. So here's this:
Be'lakor: He only has a 3+ armor save so use poisoned small arms fire and he dies like a pack of marines. If you want to be sure to hit him have your unit guided by a farseer, use a quad gun, razorwing, venoms, splinter racks to get him grounded from tons of hits from a bunch of different units. Then once he's grounded blast the crap out of him or lock him in CC to keep him on the ground. I can't remember if he has EW or not so maybe try to insta gib him with one of our toys.
Spawn+Lord: Shoot the choppy and chop the shooty. This is clearly a choppy unit so either get a unit that is more choppy or just blast the crap out of it. The only thing that I think could really give the spawns a run for their money in CC would be Grotesques or wracks as everything else just doesn't have the strength or toughness to go toe to toe with them. Be careful of the lord though as he has to challenge your character and you don't want to boost him too much...unless Tzeentch is on your side and turns him into a spawn (character death suddenly becomes tactical genius!)
tl:dr Poison is our signature, use it to full effect.

Um. On poisoned shooting:
1/6 hits, 1/2 wounds, 5/6 saved (4+ Jink, Shrouded) = 72 shots per wound. Good luck with that tactic.
I'm yet to come up with a tactic for Belakor that doesn't involve a whole lot of praying he doesn't do anything useful while I tear everything else in his army apart.

Belakor doesn't have a 3+, its 4++ and he is eternal warrior. I wouldn't worry about grounding him unless your out of targets and have the firepower to finish it that same phase.
Its worth noting that if belakor starts on the board he starts in glide mode. This is probably the only window for shooting him, IF hes going second and you can get to him which you probably cant (terrain or a bastion or something will be there). At his move hes gonna take to the air where you will want to let him stay unless you are bringing significant anti air, which I dont and you probably dont either. Now if you're going with an eldar CAD things get a lot easier due to wave serpents or even dark reapers not to mention seers. If your open to this then by all means..
Otherwise, the way I deal with belakor and daemons as well is to kill their warp charge batteries neutering their psych phase. I run MSU like most DE players so big beefy ICs and units don't have as much impact. Then play the mission. Always the mission.
Lastly back on the crucible, I'm used to facing daemons where all the psychers aren't Ld 10 so its impact will be less vs CSM + belakor. I would still include it since if you can catch belakor with a Ld 9 check and it works you've won.

I think you are lucky he is playing Be'Lakor and not an LoC and Sorc biker along with the Juggy Lord. Be'Lakor is a bit scary but prescienced Oblits and Spawn can be scarier. Be'Lakor can be downed and once invisibility gone the list as presented loses a lot of its punch.
Paper is overpowered. Scissors is fine.
