| Hi forum
I'm planning to buy something to start my experience with DE. Now, since the codex will be remade in few months, I don't know what to do. I'd start from a battlebox plus a venom, so being able to prox any kind of list at the beginning. Better to wait or buy? _________________ "Cruel fantasies of someone's dreams...that's what we are; They call us forgotten tears 'cause no eyes cried for our griefs" Synthoras, Archon of the Forgotten Tears

| I think the battleforce is probably the best way to go. I doubt that they will be making new models for any of the new plastics that we got last release personally. | |

| Agree with you. I'd wait for Incubi, honestly I think they will be entirely resculpted. _________________ "Cruel fantasies of someone's dreams...that's what we are; They call us forgotten tears 'cause no eyes cried for our griefs" Synthoras, Archon of the Forgotten Tears

i am in the same boat as OP and i think this nails the answer, anything that came with last release in plastic form is a safe bet to buy However with the incubi, yes they are finecast and we all hope they come plastic soon. but they are already awesome looking models. (IMHO anyway) so if you like the models buy them i am just hoping scourges get a buff and become viable as these models are by far the best looking out of all 40k

| Also, my own personal thought. If your just starting and are pretty sure you want to just be prepared for new book; well then I'd be cautious of what special weapons your going to equip. I mean theres always the chance that weapon "A" may be changed slightly either in points or in its abilities and you may find that "weapon B" although it wasnt that great before might be amazing now. I mean we all know Blasters are great at what they do, but what happens if they increase their points/lowers their strength? Maybe something might become a better choice then.
I'd just assemble the basic troops for now with default equipment and save the special weapons to make specialists from the next box I'd get. Thats just my thought on it tho on planning to build with anticipation for a new book.

| Ciirian that shouldn't be a problem since I bought 1x1mm magnets for special weapons. I love Incubi, the problem is finecast...bought an Archon and was a pain to clear/fix that miniature; I think I'll wait the plastic version. I'm also considering to prox trueborn with modified Black Guard of Naggarond _________________ "Cruel fantasies of someone's dreams...that's what we are; They call us forgotten tears 'cause no eyes cried for our griefs" Synthoras, Archon of the Forgotten Tears

| Magnets that small for Dark Eldar arms? I wish I found some of those/had the patients. I use magnets for Tau Crisis Suits and Terminators.
You could try Ebay for metal Incubi if you like them, I have a set of 10 and love them. Also your idea of using Black Guard is pretty awesome. If I didnt already have my Incubi I would of used the black guard helmets w/ Executioner swords as plastic Incubi

| Ravagers will probably be a safe buy too, their rules shouldn't change much as well as the talos. I also think you will be safe with scourges, hellions and reavers. All great units, a bit pricey points wise but good in their own right. _________________ " Dismemberment, mutalation and torture. These are the good things in life. Shall I show you?" | This might be obvious, but if all you've got so far is a Battleforce and a Venom, you'll need a HQ choice as well (there isn;t one in the Battleforce). Pick up an Archon. | |

| Yep, nothing will be re-sculpted for the next codex, they're still the best looking models in the range. If we're very well behaved, we might get actual models, but I don't mind if we don't. A soft release of codex only would be fine, or even just a second edition version of our existing one like they did with the old book. Perhaps they could give Scourges skyfire (in the single most deadly stopgap move ever). We might get a big monster kit, maybe plastic Grotesques, and they'll probably release Vect and the Dais as a Lord of War. That is all. Well, that's my prediction!
If they're feeling especially cruel they might nerf Wyches because they didn't intend you to use them to muderlate Land Raiders with five strong squads of them. HQ models that can be equipped with skyboards and jetbikes would be lovely for when they inevitably get rid of the Baron, but we wouldn't need models for those as they're easy to convert.
I would think everything should be pretty safe to buy really, just don't rely on an HQ that makes Hellions troops sticking around. _________________ My other car is a Ravager

| I heard a rumor of Wracks being made plastic as part of a new dual-purpose kit. I dont know if theres any truth to that, but thats what I heard.
Other then that, I wasnt telling not to buy just to be careful with the special weapon options you have as with a new book coming one weapon may become a better choice then the previous book.

| I think we'll get 2 new kits. One will be the Voidraven and the other will be Castigators. They won't redo any of the existing range but we could get a new character model in a plastic clampack, like the Eldar Farseer, Tau Cadre Fireblade, SM Librarian etc. Hopefully this will be one of the special characters because sadly, these days no model = no rules. _________________ You have been weighed, you have been measured, and you have been found wanting. That's what I can imagine them doing, they are pretty perfect for that. Options for an Aberration, a liquifier gun and one normal grot. I really can't see them changing much rules wise. Maybe some different/more effective arcane wargear (although they'll be limited to one per army, there'll be six of them, three of which are useless, one of which is amazing, two of which are average). _________________ My other car is a Ravager

I hope. I like my converted Batwing with dark lances glued on and all, but an official model would really make me happy. _________________ "Excess, yeah that's what we do best."

| I also suggest the battleforce. 10x Kabalite Warriors/True born, 10x Wyches (probably should be split into two 5-man squads in venoms), and a raider. These are worth having.
Another venom could be useful, and is not very expensive. An Archon is really a good buy, because he can reasonably be proxied as many of the more expensive HQ options so you can test things out to see if you like them.
If you want to spend a little more, 10 more Kabalite Warriors + 1 more Raider would be my recommendation. Warhammer 40k is a game about shooting things with guns, and those are the troops choice that shoots guns.

| If you can possibly get your hands on the old Dark Eldar Megaforce that was a really good buy! Off the top of my head I recall a Raider, Ravager, Venom, 5 Scourges, 10 Warriors, 20 Wyches and 9 Reavers. I bought one a couple of years ago at a 25% discount and it was probably the best buy I've ever made from GW. _________________ You have been weighed, you have been measured, and you have been found wanting. | If using Black Guard bits to make Trueborn look fancy then why not assemble the Executioners or convert them to be Incubi? You'd get ten Incubi and have plenty of the Black Guard helmets to make your Trueborn stand out. | |

| I use an Executioner when I want a Klaivex. I'd have done the whole squad like that but I only had one! He looks fantastic _________________ Dark Angels. The Rock. Lion El "Dwayne" Jonson. I can't be the first person to have thought of this.
