Meltabombs v Haywire? Empty
PostSubject: Meltabombs v Haywire?   Meltabombs v Haywire? I_icon_minitimeThu Jun 05 2014, 23:16

Hi all,

I'm playing a mini tourney this weekend and have fun list centred around deeps triking lots of units turn 2.

Some of those are Eldar Corsair Veterans who can be equipped with meltabombs or haywire for the bargain price of 15pts per squad.

I will be kitting these chaps out for vehicle hunting (3x fusion guns) and DS them in.

Which should I go for? Advantage of haywire is that I can chuck one in the shooting phase to strip an extra hull point.

Meltabombs on the other hand are a good source of AP1 and more likely to get me some pens/explosions.

My gut says haywire, as I don't especially want vehicles blowing up and killing my men.

ALSO....

the rules for the vets state that they have a 5+ invun while in combat. Would this apply if the vehicle they are assaulting blows up?

p.s I know at least one chap is bringing Russ spam in a big way.

I'd go with haywire, stripping it to bits is safer then blowing it up, and there is no real benefit to having it explode (unless there are guys inside).

And of course you still get your invul against exploding vehicles, you still get armour saves too unless it negates it through AP.

i would assume you don't get their invuln on the explosion, it was in the 6th faq that wyches didn't get theirs if they blew up the vehicle

I'm not experienced enough to have an opinion either way, but it is worth nothing that Melta Bombs can be used against MC's in close combat, which could provide a nice advantage.

wait, just read its an in combat invul like the wyches one, I had assumed just a regular invul. In that case, no Idea? Arguments for both sides really. I guess it really comes down to, does assaulting a vehicle count as close combat? If it does, then you get the invul, if it doesn't, then you don't.

Hayware is safer. U will not blow up ur own squads anymore. And they do hull points very quickly, and can be trown.

So definetly go for hayware,

I definitely say Haywire. Safer and more consistently reliable.

Thanks all! Haywire it is. My only though was now that a disordered charge is possible I may have more luck taking out several tanks with melta bombs. I haven't math hammered it though.

Also realised their armour is 5+ same as their invun, thus there are not select occasions when it would matter as exploding vehicle is AP- (ie if someone had used magic to fiddle with my armour save£.

Melta Bombs are more fun and there's going to be at least once where you're going to say "damn, wish I brought melta bombs instead"

In my opinion, better safe than sorry, but maybe take some with melta, some with haywire?
