Let's take a poll. My vote goes to "non-straight line OK"

Man, I've been using that rule very wrong for a while now Razz. I would zip out, touch a unit and just backtrack to a different area. In my mind, if you have enough inches to move (even in an S shape) and you fly over a unit, you should be able to opt to use your CC's.

Buut, now I know I guess.

I guess the wording is the way it is to try and prevent arguments over which units can and cant be caltroped. However I don't see there being any reason why you couldn't agree with your opponent that you can caltrop any unit under your movement line so long as you are clear whilst moving as to what that movement line is.

I have worked like that with a couple of people I play regularly cause it just makes more sense than the RAW does. They're happy so long as I am clearly stating where the reavers are moving whilst I'm moving, usually this boils down to I'm going to there via that unit to make it clear that they are going to be the target of my caltrop attack.

I completely agree and I will always play that way in our group. In a tournament though you'd either need to play it RAW or agree with your opponent before the game.

You have been weighed, you have been measured, and you have been found wanting. In what world could you possibly beat me?

to be fair you can live with it RAW a lot of the time as the straight line is not all that prohibitive when you can skim over terrain.

You can always use your tape measure, hold it above the target and bend it, that way your opponent sees where your intended line is going. That way there is no doubt your going over your allowed distance travelled too

I have a question pertaining to hitting monstrous creatures with bladevanes and caltrops if anyone can direct me to the answer. I believe in the 6th edition faq they said that bladevanes could not hit flyers, but now I can't find that in an faq anywhere.

The entry for flying vehicles on page 84 states that "attacks that don't roll to hit, cannot hit zooming flyers". When I compare that to the "hard to hit" entry for flying monstrous creatures on page 69 there is no such stipulation though. Swooping and zooming are two different things, so does this mean reavers can attack swooping mc's or am I crazy?

I believe you are correct but I wouldn't expect it to last. First FAQ for the main rulebook will probably change it.
