| Has anyone out there got this Legion of the Damned Codex? I'm interested in the context, and as to why there are rules for Lilith in an Imperial/Space Marine supplement.... | |

| It just for a scenario game between Dark Eldar and Chaos Space Marines (dressed up as Black Templar). I gives Leilth a few special rules for the scenario, it gives me warm feeling that we are not totally forgotten in GW's eyes. _________________ ~Current Armies~ Deldar Eldar Adeptus Mechanicus - Taghmata Omnissiah & Legio Cybernetica | |

| Lelith getting a 2+ poison on top of everything else she has in melee would insane. Even if it was a 50pt upgrade (keeping all other points the same) I'd be very tempted to look into it. That many attacks that wound on a 2+ and ignore armor....amazingly powerful. | |

| Can you just imagine the tears from riptide owners?
12 attacks hitting on 3's, wounding on 2's with no saves allowed?
Gives you a warm, fuzzy feeling doesn't it? _________________ Never fistfight with ugly people. They have nothing to lose.

| Well... suppose you're working on a scenario for Codex: Legion of the Dammits. The idea is to showcase how great the Dammits are compared to other space meringues, 'If these were regular space meringues they would be dropping like chocolate drops, but the dammits stand firm!' The scenario calls for a badass enemy character. Who's the most badass xenos character of all? Lelith, of course -- it's right there in the fluff. So you put her in, try it out, and the scenario is a wash, every time. You can't understand it; she's supposed to be a really badass character, so why isn't it working? You call in someone to help and between the two of you you figure it out: yes, she rolls an awful lot of attacks, but that cancels out with the fact that she's only Str 3. And yes, her attacks ignore armour, but you've matched her up against the Legion of the Dammits, all of whom have invulnerable saves. Hmm... That does not suggest to you that Lelith needs 'fixing'. Your only concern is, how do I make this scenario work? You haven't got a lot of time, so you work out a 'quick and dirty' fix so that the book can go to print. Of course Lelith still has to deal with the dammits' 3++ save, but the whole point was to demonstrate how awesome they are, so that's okay, as long as the fight isn't so one-sided that it's just silly. Maybe you're conscientious enough to write an observation about Lelith on a post-it for 'future reference', and maybe it doesn't get lost when someone writes over it with the number of their dentist. Or if not, maybe you're still around then to offer your insight, because you haven't found a better job, and maybe it isn't dismissed as an anomaly: 'that was just because it was the Legion of the Dammits'. You may not even remember it by then, what with that earthquake and your girlfriend having the baby on that balloon ride. I'm not saying that's what happened... just don't get your hopes too high up. | |

| Then why choose Lelith? Why not another character that would work better against Legion of the Damned? _________________ Kabal of the Forsaken Masquerade Coven of the Flayed Man

| Because they honestly don't know. The DE have been off their radar for quite some time now. If they give it any thought, they may assume that some things have changed between 5th and 6th, but what exactly, and how much? That is not something they have dedicated much time to. They may have just thought of Lelith as visually amazing (which she is!) and a character designed to be absolutely badass, and her failure would have come as a surprise.

| DE were always thought of as "marine killers", in the game concept: their intro-set inclusion (2nd? 3rd? Before my time!) showed this. 4th 'Nids were a swarm repulsion, 5th Orks a battle against a horde of superior numbers but inferior soldiers, 6th Chaos are their Dark mirrors; DE were their lethal opposites: lithe, fast, hi-tech and fanciful, a counter to their stoic solidity, steadfastness, strength and dourness.
Legion of the Damned are tougher and more humourless; it makes sense that their opposite is a dancing slip of a girl, lethal in her beauty.
As for the frequent mis-spelling, "Lilith" appears in the Torah as Adam's first wife, before Eve, and subsequently in a lot of fantasy/mythology/comics; expelled from Eden, she went on to become the mother of monsters, the first witch, the original wise woman/evil queen, superior to men, an embodiment of hedonism, sexual power, and everything that "good clean" religions abhor. Lelith was certainly developed from aspects of the Lilith myth, so really it is GW who chose to misspell her!
Lilith appears in the skirmish game Malifaux, again as the Mother Of Monsters, with natural powers, and the ability to spawn and grow her brood; she also has awesome close combat skills, a dirty great sword, and a great figure!
If you like powerful women, not just big bewbs and shiny bikinis, Lilith is where it all started! | |
