Thanks Smile

Don't do it. Lower temperatures like that will cause some ugly problems with the primer. Usually the result is a pebbly texture or a sheen that will actively repel any paint you attempt to cover it with. The propellents that make the can spray are usually quite cold before they leave the can and spraying into cold causes the fouling and separation that cause both of the problems I mentioned.

If you really want to get on with a model either use a brush on primer or find somewhere you can get away with spraying indoors: just lay down some newspaper to catch the overspray in a basement, even the stairwell in an apartment building: just watch out for the super Smile. Few hobby accidents are as frustrating as ruining a model (especially if you took time to convert it) before you even get a basecoat on it.

Thanks so much for your reply.

I've been itching to basecoat my set of Reavers. But your right, I'll resist the urge.

I find that for.the best result you need at least +10.degrees celcious and always as low humidity as possible...

Are you living somewhere that is cold for a long time? A Canadian poster had the same problem last year on The TyranidHive, and there was a good thread about building a fume extraction cupboard.

The best one I saw was a folding temporary cabinet, so easily packed away for storage: A 2 foot cube dowel frame covered in clear polythene made the spraying chamber, with a front panel that was 2/3 covered from the top; the extraction was done by a wall-mount shower extractor fan with 4" dia pipe that fed through a panel that fitted the window, so as not to let all your central heating out!

There was a Youtube or Instructables video, but I couldn't find it, and it's my bedtime! It was a very simple build though, and allowed the user to spray at room temperature throughout a snowy winter, despite having a wife that hates the smell of spraypaint, as mine does!

I've sprayed my guys in 20 degree fahrenheit weather and let them dry outside for 15 mins. Brought them inside and had no issues.

I now consider myself lucky for living in southern Finland.

The best way to prime a miniature is to use an airbrush. No smell, no toxicity, controlled burst, thin layer.

I live in Ireland, it's rarely that high in temperature. +10 is a bit of an exaggeration. Anywhere around 3-4 is fine, I do it all the time with no problems.

Low humidity is necessary though.
