PostSubject: Painting Sealant   Painting Sealant I_icon_minitimeWed Aug 07 2013, 01:28

Hey Guys, so I just painted up an amazing raider (took forever, those things are beasts) but now some of the highlights on the areas I touch it most in gaming are wearing down. So I was just wondering whether you guys seal your craft with some sort of protective coat or something and if so, what do you use?

Thanks for the help, Smile

I've used Testors Dullcote for years. It has a super matte finish to it and gives a very realistic look to your painted minis. Recently I've switched to their Glosscoat finish which brings out the color and highlights very noticeably on my army where darker colors are prominently featured. I haven't used GW sealants in a very long time due to many, many bad inconsistent results using them Evil or Very Mad

Yeah gw sealants are very poor. I have had white misting on some of my minis that took hours to paint before. I now use vallejo gloss/matt varnish and paint or airbrush it on

Is testors spray in can? I'm thinking of ordering them in ebay, since sweden don't import them for some reason...

Yeah, they switched the cans to the white and blue labels a while ago. Still throws me off after all of these years of buying the black label. (Do they expect me to READ the label?! Razz  )
I didn't look at the Dullcote listings all that hard on ebay, but you shouuld be able to find one that ships internationally or within the EU.

Thx again ESE, I've done my homework now.

@Clazaryn - I hear army painters anti-shine is equal to testors dullcote. But I also hear army painers is a bit tricky to learn to use properly. It can easily ruin your models if you use them wrong. I bet that's the case for any sealant, but army painters seem to be easier to mess up with.

Testors in the other hand, seem to be easier to use. A comparison:

To sum it up, the vid claims that they work equally well but testors is more expensive.

I ordered the testors, gonna try em out.
