Incubi Raiders? Empty
PostSubject: Incubi Raiders?   Incubi Raiders? I_icon_minitimeSun Jul 28 2013, 01:35

I am in the process of painting my first 5th edition Incubi (finally) and will need a cool transport for them once they are done. I had intended to make an Incubi-themed Raider complete with Incubi front gunner, black paint scheme, and lots of trophies, but after reading Path of the Incubus and remembering a bit of the background I came to the conclusion that these are basically aspect warriors that live only to perfect their deadly art. It seems kind of silly to have them manning a dark lance or driving their own ride. In the third edition fluff they were basically bodyguards for archons. As such it would seem more appropriate to model their transport as a pimped-out Kabal raider using my regular kabal color scheme (albeit with more cool trophies!)

I'm curious if any of you have thoughts on this and would be appreciative if you were to share them. I won't have time for a few weeks to start my raider for them and would like to put some time in thinking of a concept for them.

Thanks in advance!

In my opinion, but i'm probably too much influenced by the 3rd ed vision of the incubis, i don't see any problem about incubi gunners. But the pimped out raider, as you said, isn't the way i would see it.

To me, incubis are some mysterious warriors and bodyguards with a really strict disciplin. So, in my point of vue, it could be a good idea to make an understated raider, without the sails, with some close weapons racks, and maybe some harness for the incubi's suits. Kind of a "dojo" look if you see what i mean...

Interesting. I agree that an Incubi raider would be more martial and understated rather than flashy and DE-gaudy. My thinking behind having a flashy raider is that as a martial order(basically our dark aspect warriors) employed as bodyguards by archons they wouldn't have their own rides. I have a hard time picturing Incubi maintaining a fleet of transports. Instead, I picture them riding in their archon's raiders, usually with the archon.

I have to admit also that you painting the old face-wearing opera archon has given me a strange urge to revisit the old model and modernize it a bit. I never painted my old one from 15 years ago and would like to pay homage to my old DE army. Perhaps one of the reeeeeaaaly old archons from one of the original houses? Twisted Evil

I think Incubi would consider piloting a Raider or manning a gun beneath them. Let the lesser rabble find thrill and enjoyment from slaying foes from afar or driving a craft at breakneck speeds. For Incubi there is only their duty, and the art of the close kill - nothing else matters.

I think you could equip a Raider with an Incubus theme - but I wouldn't expect Incubi to be manning the ship, they'd have others do the grunt work and leave them free to focus on the assault or the protection of their charge.

My thinking as well.

In Path of The Renegade, the archon (Yllithian or something, forgot already) had his own barge manned by incubi. I think it's perfectly okay!

But then again, it was the transport of a highly arrogant archon. I dont know if the incubi want to transport themselves like that Rolling Eyes  But if there is an archon accompanying them, it would make sense.

I imagine Incubi as proud and selfish warriors who consider themselves as superior beings, some kind of traditional aristocrats who can be overconfident in some cases.
Due to their dedication to combat, they need slaves to take care of the day to day matters (cleaning the toilets, cooking, etc...) . So they also need drivers.
A slavemaster with electrowhip + 3 or 4 slaves as crew members may do the job on board a classic, elegant and sober raider. Maybe something like a funeral hearse.

One of the most iconic parts of Path of the Renegade for me was Morr on a Raider, ripping off the prow Dark Lance and standing there badass, strafing everyone.

I always pictured the Incubi having their 'new recruits'' pilot and gun their Raiders. The younger ones would be better suited at flying / gunning as they havent perfected their art of killing yet. Thats how I pictured mine to be anyway.

I did an incubi raider with shock prow, parts from the reaper and 2 incubi crew with klaives hung from the sail rails... see if I can dig up the post in the hobby section

edit - here you go!

Thanks for the pic Massaen, very cool indeed.
I'm still waffling back and forth between the idea of an Incubi-crewed raider and a borrowed archon's ride. I truly appreciate  the input from all of you! Keep it coming! (I need to work this out before I finish the next 6 Incubi)

Incubi obviously get trained in all sorts of weapons since they have a ballistic skill of 4 with the klaivex's ballistic skill at 5. If you have a good idea for how it would look I think it would be a fun addition. I like the idea of recruits crewing the ship leaving the full fledged Incubi ready to slaughter. Maybe just paint the normal crew like Incubi as representative of Incubi in training.

Actually newest fluff like the first part of the 'Path' Dark Eldar series. You have the Incubi entourage of the leading Archon of the story man the guns of his transport. So no problem there. He prefers it that way as he trusts them.
Personally i'm going to use the old Vect model for my Archon's transport with an incubi longcoat escort. Retro but i like them.
