Magnetising Talos Empty
PostSubject: Magnetising Talos   Magnetising Talos I_icon_minitimeThu May 16 2013, 17:02

I've had a half-assembled Talos sitting around for a while, so figured I should finish it and paint it. I wanted to give it interchangeable weapons, since I'm not yet settled on the best load out. I've magnetised the tail guns, which was quite straightforward. But I'm not sure what to do about the arms. There are enough parts to assemble four different arms (which will have to be 2 CCWs, Chain flails, and Ichor injector - perhaps foolishly I used the Liquifier for a Grot).

My question is whether I should magnetise them or not? Currently the forearms plug quite snuggly on and off the main arms, so I'm tempted to leave them like that, without magnets. But I worry that one part or another may break if I keep pushing and pulling them on like this, so maybe a magnet would be better in the long-run.

Has anyone else used the plug method?

I used magnets for mine. Works well and minimizes damage to the model as well as damage to the paint job from gripping up the model to push the pieces into the sockets.

I magnetizes my talos too in the arms and weapons, also magnetized the masks to use that "mosquito" mask and a commom mask!

Ok, so the consensus so far seems to be that magnetising is a good idea. I wasn't sure if it was necessary and I was just being over cautious about those arm joints.

It shouldn't be too hard to do, if I just cut off the connectors I can glue the magnet direct to the arm, without even needing to drill a recess I think. (Though if anyone knows of a guide to magnetising the Talos I'd be grateful.)

UPDATE:

I took the plunge and went ahead with the left arm. The only tricky bit was lining up the wire from the Ichor injector - so I cheated and just cut it off!

The left arm can now have Ichor injector, Chain flails, or a hook (i.e. Additional CCW). If I understand correctly, there's no point magnetising the right arm, since the Talos can only have one of those options, so the right hand will always be a basic CCW.

try magnetizing to be able to do a chronos or talos!

full profit in the full kit!

I thought that would be over-ambitious and, for me, unnecessary. I have two of the kits anyway and I'm pretty sure I have enough spare parts that if I get another flying base I can make two Taloi and a Cronos anyway.

Only occurred to me last night, but this is the first time I've actually magnetised a kit - only previously used magnets for bases/movement trays in WFB.

It isn´t that hard, just relax, take it easy this is a hobby after all, not a new stress font!

and remember the polarizations!

Howdy,
Just take you time and relax.

I agree with EOE, magnetizing is the way to go.

I have not tried to magnetize mine yet, a little late for 2 of them as they are already assembled, but I plan to buy another 2 kits and magnetize them outright for taloi or cronos conversion.

I have recently magnetised my Talos/Cronos and chose not to magnetise the arms at the shoulders, it has worked out great!

Here is a video with the details:

Hope this helps.
