So, as the title suggests I am hopefully going to be getting into Kill Team soon!

With my complete lack of experience in Kill Team I am hoping to find out if anybody here on TDC plays it and what they use effectively. I was thinking of taking a Trueborn squad with a couple of Splinter Cannons, but other than this I am stuck!

So, any suggestions would be most wonderful!

Cheers - Cavash.

A link to the Killteam rules for anybody that doesn't know where to find them: http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m2860630a_40K_Kill_Team_Pack_2013_%286%29.pdf

This game is so much fun, I recommend it to anybody that wants to have multiple quick games. I had two games against the new DA codex: I won the first game but lost the second by a single man.

Anyhow, my list:
1Trueborn - Shardcarbine. (Leader)
1 Trueborn - Shardcarine.
1 Trueborn - Splinter Cannon (Fleshbane)
1 Trueborn - Blaster.

1 Hellion Shrouded.
1 Hellion - Furious Charge.
1 Hellion.
1 Hellion.
1 Hellion.
1 Hellion.
1 Hellion.

The two Trueborn with Shardcarbines really did prove effective. The speed at which they could move across the board combined with three poisoned shots each made them feared by my enemy, but they did most of their damage when they had been ignored.
The Trueborn with the Splinter Cannon proved to be the most murderous model on the board. It tore through Green Marine and Ravenwing alike. He took out my foe's Marine with a Heavy Bolter and Relentless in both games. I love this model and shall cartainly be keeping it.
The Trueborn with the Blaster was just as valuable as my Shardcarbine wielders. In both games he eventually got put down, but this was only after taking down a Ravenwing biker and a couple of Marines.

The unit of Hellions complimented the Trueborn superbly, although I found that Furious Charge was wasted. The Hellions stormed forward, unleashing a torrent of Splinter Fire before hit and running away out of range of enemy charge distance.

The first game was a massacre orchestrated fantastically by the Trueborn leader, but the second game was much closer.
With one enemy Marine claiming the central objective my last two Hellions move in for the kill. The Marine split his rapid fire shots and murdered them both.

Moral of the story: Bolters are hell against Hellions!

I'm looking into other list builds. I have a couple in mind and shall post them here when I've got the written up.

Cheers! Smile

Just looked into Kill Team and, boy, how could I habe missed that? It seema like loads of fun!

I do think that Tervigons could be overly powerful, as always, but hey.

Have you thought about fielding a few grotesques? Although models that can both fight and shoot are arguably better, something about three hulking 3W models just screems badass to me. Very Happy

Hopefully this thread isn't considered past it's use by date yet. I was just wondering if anyone here used the unofficial Kill Team rules set out at the Heralds of Ruin Blog?
I haven't had a chance to put together a group to play through with yet, but the rules seem to be an attempt at a slightly more persistent campaign model along the mordheim / necromunda / gorkamorka route.
Unfortunately it seems like support for them is going to be grinding to a halt soon, but I've found the concepts they've put together rather intriguing. I would be interested to hear if anyone has any experience of them, how they play, what they think of the army lists etc.

I haven't seen the rulesfrom that blog, Olleta, but I shall give the a look.

Kinnay, Grotesques are a great idea, even if it is just for the amount of attacks they throw out when goiung all rampage! I will certainly have to try them out. My only thought against them is that I'm putting so many points into a few multi-wound beasts that can only maul one unit per combat phase. After they innevitably krog whatever they're hitting they'l; be left out in the open and vulnerable to being shot at.

I had a game the other day with Gorts and, although fun, I find them a tad too pricey to go in Kill Team. There were lots of high toughness wounds, but against a lot of plasma weapons (I was facing Dark Angels) they just got shredded to pieces.

I am having a small tournament this weekend of Kill Team where I'll likely be facing Dark Angels, Chaos and possibly Imperial Guard. I'm making some changes to my old DE list and I'm writing up and Eldar list to post about on a CWE Forum, Eldar Resplendent. (See signature for shameless advertising).

For my DEldar list I'm thinking of adding a Disintergrator Ravager in place of the Hellions. I lose out on assault this way, but it provides me with lots of nasty fire. Either they target the Trueborn and get rid of all the nasty poisoned weapons (the horrible Fleshbane Splinter Cannon, mainly) and get blasted apart by nine AP2 shots a turn, or they focus on the Ravager, and get poisoned to death.
I hope that this will work well.

For CWE, however, I haven't had many good ideas. I thought of maybe having some Dire Avengers with a squad of Warp Spiders and a Vaul's Wrath Platform for good long range support.

What do you guys think? Any suggestions for either list?

So Cavash, what about mine from awhile ago

Venom w/ second cannon
Trueborn w/ Dark Lance
Trueborn w/ Splinter Cannon
Trueborn w/ Blaster
Trueborn w/ Blaster
Trueborn w/ Shard Carbine

comes out to 195, and you have a ton of different choices for USRs. I would do Fleshbane on the Venom and Relentless and S&P on the two heavy weapon trueborn so they can chill in the venom and still shoot. Skilled Rider on the venom is also dope (4+ coversave anyone???) and Psyker is cool as well for some hilarity.

Wasn't Fleshbane FAQ'd as a melee weapons only USR for Kill Team purposes? Other than that, looks pretty neat.

Around here, though, we play heavily houseruled Kill Team with adapted Necromunda rules to incorporate a leveling up element to it, as well as a chance of your dudes getting crippled and permakilled. That way, every highly upgraded and leveled up model that permanently dies really, really hurts, and the game gets a whole lot more interesting. A friend of mine is currently working on a clarified writeup of the rules for campaign use. If you're interested, I could link it once it's done.

I really like that idea, Shadows. I think the only bit that I might change would be the Dark Lance in place of another Splinter Cannon, but even then I have enough Poisoned fire. I don't tend to take tanks, but even in the face of infantry that's some good long range sniping!

Cheers, I'll give it a go!

I think it was FAQ'ed, but we play without the FAQ and from a much simpler printout from the GW website. We only get to play Kill Team with a close group of friends/family, so we discuss all the rules to make sure everybody thinks it's fare beforehand.
I would love to see that, Siticus! Very Happy

There's a houserule that I played with in my SWE game the other day, if you'd like to take a look?

Here's the link to my friend's project thread on Boot Camp forums - http://z4.invisionfree.com/Boot_Camp/index.php?showtopic=15515

Do check it out. This type of Kill Team is intended to have a very XCOM feel to it - you really get attached to your guys and it really, really hurts when they permanently die. Feel free to leave feedback as well, we'll both appreciate it!

Well it is good to see Kill Team being explored. I know this is rather late in terms of how long the post has been up but I just found out about this type of format. I am really tempted on mixing it with some kind of escalation rule set.
