sliscus lets you deepstrike all your venoms, raiders, and ravagers. the only vehicles I've ever seen dropped from orbit are necron monoliths, SM drop pods, and the hilariously unnecessary blood angel land raider. but all of these are either made to deepstrike or armor 14. and the fact that 50% of all the monoliths I've seen end up immobile because of terrain doesn't help the fact that i'm scared to deepstrike our armor 10 vehicles. So is it worth the risk and how can i do it more effectively?

IMO no Deep Striking isn't worth it for DE. To me the two key things about DE are: 1) hitting the enemy hard before they get the chance to hit you back and 2) hitting part of the enemy's army with all of your army. Both strats emphasis what are IMO DE's strengths while minimizing weaknesses. DE strength in Speed/Firepower are pushed by early application and concentration of force while our weaknesses (fragility) are somewhat made up for by taking out key enemy units and moving in force (target saturation).

Deep Striking goes entirely against this ideal. Units Deep Striking don't start on the board which means you are the one who has his army split up and ready to be picked off piecemeal. It also means you lack those units firepower early on which again gives the enemy more chance to kill your fragile elements. IMO deep striking is only really good for armies like Marines/Necrons who can deal with being outnumbered on the board and handle attrition games better.

I suppose a DE list which makes heavy use of Talos, Grots, Wracks, and an Aegis Defense Line could do Deep Striking (or a Webway Portal to mention the "more common" DE specific option) somewhat better but for a "normal" DE list (with lots of venoms, warriors, and so on) I'm not a fan at all.

It's situational, and can be totally worth it if you do it correctly.

Consider it a great way to get a suicide unit behind enemy lines.

What's great about Sliscus is that unlick Retrofire Jets or Turboboosting, Troops on board a transport that you deepstrike using him can both shoot and disembark and assault.

Only thing to look out for is interceptor enemies which can pop your transport on the way in.

FYI I just won the local campaign last week using a deepstriking Raider.

After points were totaled for the campaign tonight I was awarded 1st place in the club (55 Members, 25 regular players each week).

I'm pretty sure that you can't assault after disembarking from a Deep Striking vehicle.

Deep Strike, pg 36: " In that turn's Assault Phase, however, these units cannot charge. This also applies to units that have disembarked from Transports that arrived by Deep Strike that turn"

Deepstrike although not used often can be useful when going second, as it lets the reserved units get their shots in first. In 6th deepstrike is also a lot more forgiving, you only roll for dangerous terrain when landing in terrain (rather than misshap) and the misshap table only has a 1/6 chance of outright killing you. Combine this with 3+ reserve rolls and it makes deesptrike a lot more appealing than it was in 5th edition.

The only things I consider deepstriking are Hellions, Scourges,Ravagers, Void Ravens and Razorwings.

Hellions because they are fragile and have a good shooting attack. You can deepstrike them into some cover (With the baron the terrain tests won't be a problem) as you get to use that 5+ armour save against it. As long as you land near a weekend enemy unit that you can finish off with the hellions splinter pods and earn a pain token your hellions should be in a strong position.

Scourges they can either function like the hellions: deesptriking and earning a pain token on the turn they come in. Or as traditional seepstrike suicide metla, even with blasters deepstrike can get you a shot on side/rear armour.

Ravagers, deepstrike is useful when you are going second with no night fight, sometimes there is too much firepower on the board and you decide to reserve your ravager in order to protect it. Deepstrike lets it come on in a better position on the flank (than if you moved in from the board edge) and still shoot which can give you shots on side armour!

Voidraven/razorwing, lets you get behind enemy flyers, come in in a better position.

Hope that helps. Smile

EDIT: The Duke does not let you assault after deepstriking.
