Now I know this has been discussed in great detail already and the viabilty of a WWP list has gone down however I feel like it can still be done. The other day I tried a small sample of what I would do to make a WWP work in 6th edition and it went pretty well overall. I had all my assault based units out of reserves and kept a 20 man foot slogging warrior squad in reserve. With deployment and terrain my opponent was pretty spaced out to cover all sides as he knows how mobile Dark Eldar are and he wanted to make sure I couldn't single out any one squad easily, however he was spread thin enough across I could put everything on one flank and take it, the fact that I managed to get a decent sized chunk of Los blocking terrain on also helped. I played a space marine and tau combo. To start I flew up to the impassible terrain I used to block Los except on one flank and dropped a WWP down to protect the archon and wyches who placed it there as it is impassible terrain and we play it as something you can't shoot through since it is a big portal opening up in the middle of the air. The rest of my stuff flew far up the flank. This left a lot of my opponent's army more cut off than he expected and gave me free reign for the most part to move up. I was then able to get most of my wyches into assault unscathed and my foot squad of warriors came out of the WWP shooting at the nearest thing obliterating it. Unfortunately we had to end the game early since I couldn't stay but I felt like the portal helped me get up the side effectively staying relatively intact for a turn 2 assault and it also helped get my large foot squad into rapid fire range where it was a real threat to my opponent. The best part about the large warrior squad I felt was that it posed a huge threat to my opponent once he saw how much it hurt and it would have distracted him from my wyches and hellions who were a much bigger threat as they got closer to him for assault.

So that's my experience with the WWP so far, haven't gotten a chance to try it again yet but I wanted to tell everyone my experience so far and some things I thought it was useful for and also ask about any experiences they have had with them and what is useful with them or any bad experiences and things that should be avoided when using WWPs

So please share how you've tried to make the WWP work, how it has succeeded and how it has failed, every experience helps even the bad ones as they eliminate ineffective strategies with it and the good experiences highlight how to make it work.

I think it can still be used but think of it more of a drop pod then an assault landraider. Plop it down in the middle close to your enemy and march out large squads of warriors, a talos etc. It pretty much is the same drop pod tactic where you drop a squad of sternguard or a combat squad next to something scary and shoot it to bits. The only problem is that you must deploy it first...

I like to use them to bring Reavers out and get them into Melta range quicker - move 12" Melta range 9" = 21" threat radius, even if your portal is 6" from your DZ (lets say total 18" from board edge), that 21" range can cover a fair bit of mid ground and opponents DZ. Can also Bladevane from the portal too if playing long board edges.

Webway's can still be used but their use is nerfed somewhat. Lists really shouldn't be built around them, unless your thinking Baron with Hellions, Reavers, Harlequins and some Beasts or Grotesques to escort the portal carriers. You still have to have half your army on the board anyway, but maybe keeping fast moving scoring and contesting units (Hellions w/ Baron and Reavers) in reserve for a turn or two maybe be something worth trying. Or it may blow up in your face.....just gotta try it.

The one thing that would make Webways huge is if IC's could join Infiltrating units like Mandrakes, to get the portal right up close....

Is there a GW model of a WWP? I would like to model one cutting a ball in half or something, whats the size of them the radius? is it a small blast marker? So reavers and talos can come out of them, I thought only troops could, thats cool. Off course raiders etc, cant hey?
So anything you want that can come out of the portal you can keep in reserve? do you still have to roll to see if they come on as normal for reserves?

There's an official model, but it was a limited edition thing. They still sell vortex grenade templates, tho, which are the same thing but with a different paint job. It's a half-sphere with the radius of a small blast marker.

Yeah its about a small blast marker size. Yea, they follow reserve rules, and you measure the movement distance from the edge of the portal marker, just like you do from the table edge

Any non-vehicle can exit it. Allies cannot use it Sad

Technically, even Dark Eldar cannot use it if they are an allied detachment, although units from the primary detachment can (thank you FAQ!!).

I use it to deploy two or three shooty talos. I use two portals. Both are carried by haemonculi in raiders. You can really control areas of the board and direct your opponent's attention when he knows that three talos are showing up. Your enemy will spend all their time taking out the talos rather than focusing on your troops. A talos (or three) that is right in your face is really scary as opposed to a talos that is plodding across the field. If they don't deal with the talos the monsters will walk through an army.

Think about where you deploy. As with everything in this edition, movement and cover are king.

I have thought about using them to deploy bikes, but I like my bikes to have a pain token at the start of the game, so that's out. They might be good for Harlequins, if deployed correctly.
