PostSubject: 1500 pts New to DE & Warhammer - All help appreciated ^_^   1500 pts New to DE & Warhammer - All help appreciated ^_^ I_icon_minitimeFri Oct 12 2012, 00:06

Hey guys, so I'm pretty new to this game. I say pretty new... I mean started watching other people play the game about 2 weeks ago and since then played 1 practice game against my BF who has also only played 4-5 games - I've read most of the rulebook though if that counts Wink

Since I'm a woman and thus obviously a shopaholic (sorry girls XD) I think I've got a pretty good start already on buying the army but would like some advice on a) efficient ways to get what I need from my army for an all round list. b) suggestions on things I would need to look into getting in the future.

Models I currently own;
20 Kabalite troops
10 Wyches
5 Incubi
1 Archon
1 Haemonculus
3 Reavers
3 Raiders
2 Venoms
1 Razorwing

My thoughts on an army list using the above models;

8 Kabalite Warriors
Blaster
Raider w/Night Shields
157 pts

8 Kabalite Warriors
Blaster
Raider w/Night Shields
157pts

9 Wyches
Hydra Gauntlets. 8 w/ Haywire (was originally 2 points over 1500..)
1 Haemonculus w/ Stinger Pistol and Liquifier
Raider w/ Night Shields
261 pts

5 Incubi
Klaivex w/ Demi-klaives, Onslaught
Venom w/ Night Shields, Splinter Cannon
235 pts

4 Kabalite Trueborn
2 w/ Blaster 2 w/ Splinter Cannon
2 with SCs have Haywire (incase I get stuck dealing with tanks where the SC have no effect)
1 Archon
w/ Blaster, Agoniser, Shadowfield and Combat Drugs
Venom w/ Night Shields, Splinter Cannon
312 pts

3 Reavers w/ Heat Lance
78 pts

Razorwing w/ Flickerfield, Night Shields + 4 Shatterfield missiles
185 pts

Ravager w/ Night Shields & Flicker Field
125 pts

This is exactly 1500 pts (according to my spreadsheet geek ) using everything I have currently (except 1 wych...)

I've put a fair amount of thought into this, but I still don't really know how the game plays properly so could definitely do with insight from more experienced players ^_^
I'm also interested in expanding the army later so it doesn't have to stay at 1500 pts, but I like nicely spread numbers (1500, 1750, 2000 etc)

My local meta (as such) is mostly Chaos Space Marines and Necrons but I'd like to be roughly prepared for most things if that helps in determining the final list.

Also final note, please try not to abbreviate to much as I'm still trying to learn the game, let alone forum speak aswel =/ x

Thankyouu ^_^

Hey welcome to DE, as a learning army you have picked one that can be unforgiving. But if you want to beat your BF to dust you have come to the right place Wink

Quote :

8 Kabalite Warriors
Blaster
Raider w/Night Shields

Most people go 10 warriors, splinter racks and a splinter cannon for a raider gunboat, making the most out of the new rapid fire rules that lets you move your gunboat 6 inches and still fire your splinter rifles at 24 inchs and with splinter racks giving you twin linked while night shields keep those bolters out of range.

Quote :

9 Wyches
Hydra Gauntlets. 8 w/ Haywire (was originally 2 points over 1500..)
1 Haemonculus w/ Stinger Pistol and Liquifier
Raider w/ Night Shields
261 pts

Instead of hydra gauntlet its better if you can grab a hekatrix with venom blade if you can squeeze it in.

The Haemonculus does not need the stinger pistol, keep him just with the liquifier, if you you want to spend those points, go the venom blade to give him a bit of punch since he is with your wyches.

Quote :

5 Incubi
Klaivex w/ Demi-klaives, Onslaught
Venom w/ Night Shields, Splinter Cannon
235 pts

Klaivex is generally a bit too expensive an upgrade to justify it, especially with onslaught only affecting so few incubi. Can use those points elsewhere.

Quote :

4 Kabalite Trueborn
2 w/ Blaster 2 w/ Splinter Cannon
2 with SCs have Haywire (incase I get stuck dealing with tanks where the SC have no effect)
1 Archon
w/ Blaster, Agoniser, Shadowfield and Combat Drugs
Venom w/ Night Shields, Splinter Cannon
312 pts

Best not to give a unit split purposes, so 3-4 blasters on the unit for some good anti vehicle which your list needs. The archon should not go with this unit, he is a combat man and this is a shooting squad that will hunt tanks, best to have him in your wyches or incubi where he will see combat.

It is probably best not to spend the points on the blaster for the archon, since his place is in combat, the agoniser is not ideal for him, only ap3 and expensive, give him either huskblade and soul trap for good fun character hunting, or venom blade for cheap easy wounds.

Quote :
Razorwing w/ Flickerfield, Night Shields + 4 Shatterfield missiles
185 pts

I wouldn't get nightshields on your flyer, not really needed.

Quote :
Ravager w/ Night Shields & Flicker Field
125 pts

Ravagers now get a 5+ Jink save when they move at all, even a slight shuffle half a mm, and since they will unlikely see combat sitting back 36 inches the flickerfield points can be spent elsewhere.

Hope this helps and good luck with your games.

If you giive the unit haywire nades you have to give them to them all.
With your blaster borns you should either have all AT weapons or all AI weapons. If you have two splinter cannons and shoot at a vehicle then you have just wasted 12 shots. If you shoot at infantry you will most likely be out of blaster range and so lose three blaster shots.
On the incubi the onslaught upgrade isn't worth it unless you have alot more incubi than 5 and the demiklaive is overpriced for what it does but can be great.(I just like the bloodstone. An ap 3 flamer on a charactor is too good to pass up, but that's just me.)
Night shields are amazing against necrons since most of their AT is either 24 or 36 inches instead of the nasty range of SM missles and tua railguns.
Just so you know, razorwings will get ripped in half by most any other flyer in the air but it's all we got for AA so having one isn't a bad idea anyways.

There has already been some good advice given here and some of mine will mirror it.

Quote :
8 Kabalite Warriors
Blaster
Raider w/Night Shields
157 pts
If your wanting to keep points down then these are fine as they are but as previously mentioned 10 with a Cannon and Splinter Racks is a very strong and effective unit.

Quote :
9 Wyches
Hydra Gauntlets. 8 w/ Haywire (was originally 2 points over 1500..)
1 Haemonculus w/ Stinger Pistol and Liquifier
Raider w/ Night Shields
261 pts
Again as mentioned if you take the Haywire's then the whole unit must have them. I would drop the Gauntlets completely as well as the Stinger Pistol. You should aim to have the Haemonculus stay in the Raider and Liquifier everything from there once the Wyches leave.
If you can manage it a Hekatrix with a Venom blade or Power Lance and preferably a Phantasm Grenade Launcher would be great for this unit and help protect from Overwatch.
Finally a nice boost is taking an Enhanced Aethersails, you need this unit in your enemy's face fast and they will help you get there.
You might consider saving points by dropping the Nightshields as this won't spend long at range's that are most effective for it.

Quote :
5 Incubi
Klaivex w/ Demi-klaives, Onslaught
Venom w/ Night Shields, Splinter Cannon
235 pts
Consider the same note on Nightshields as the Wyches comments.
I would prefer to have an Archon with this group, particularly if your going to spend points on the Klaivex. If you want to keep the Archon with the Trueborn then I would say drop the Klaivex. Ether way definatly drop Onslaught, its to expensive for a small unit and near pointless with a big one.

Quote :
4 Kabalite Trueborn
2 w/ Blaster 2 w/ Splinter Cannon
2 with SCs have Haywire (incase I get stuck dealing with tanks where the SC have no effect)
1 Archon
w/ Blaster, Agoniser, Shadowfield and Combat Drugs
Venom w/ Night Shields, Splinter Cannon
312 pts
As others have said splitting the weapon types here is a bad idea I would chance the Cannons to Blasters since you have good Anti-Infantry already.
You don't need all that equiptment on the Archon iIf you plan to keep him here. This unit should never get into Melee combat so the Agoniser, Combat Drugs and possibly even the Shadowfield should never get used. Drop them to build more points onto other units.

Quote :
3 Reavers w/ Heat Lance
78 pts
Nice and simple, a Champion with Venomblade might be nice for if you run out of tanks and need to use these in combat but not required.

Quote :
Razorwing w/ Flickerfield, Night Shields + 4 Shatterfield missiles
185 pts
As already said you should drop the Nightshields, you won't encounter many cases where they will be to effective against anything regularly shooting at this.
Also you have not mentioned what guns you plan to take. Ether way having 4 Shatterfields is probably a bit over the top. The re-roll to wound is nice but the Strength 7 will just be overkill on most of what these are fired at. Also the AP on the Monoscythes is great against those cultist you will probably run into with Chaos armys.
I would add Dissintegrator Cannons and use this as Anti-Infantry with atleast 2 Monoscythes. But Dark Lances are good too, especially if your expecting other flyers.

Quote :
Ravager w/ Night Shields & Flicker Field
125 pts
Again no guns listed. I would assume Dark Lances which is a great idea. Also as mentioned as long as you keep these moving they get a minimum 5+ cover save so unless your expecting a lot of attacks that ignore cover you shouldn't need the Flickerfield.

Looks like a good solid base for a list though. Let us know how your first few games go.

Thankyou very much ^_^
I'm glad to be here.... kinda nice to have a hobby away from card games (unless you count shoe shopping lol)

Completely overlooked splinter racks definitely want those =O
Most of the weapon upgrades etc were just cause I felt I had the points (couldn't get below 1400 happily so wanted to go up..)
I've adjusted the line-up for the more focused changes though;

2x squads of 8 Kabalite Warriors - Blaster. Raider w/Night Shields 157 pts

9 Wyches w/ haywire. Hekatrix w/ Venomblade, Phantasm Grenade Launcher.
1 Haemonculus w/ Liquifier
Raider w/ En.Sails 258 pts

4 Incubi - Klaivex w/ Demi-klaives, Onslaught
1 Archon - w/ Huskblade, Soul Trap, Shadowfield and Combat Drugs
Venom w/ En.Sails, Splinter Cannon 353 pts

4 Kabalite Trueborn - w/ 4 Blaster
Venom w/ Night Shields, Splinter Cannon 183 pts

3 Reavers w/ Heat Lance 78 pts

Razorwing w/ Flickerfield + 4 Shatterfield missiles 175 pts

Ravager w/ Night Shields 115 pts

1496 pts total.

Still running squads of 8 on the warriors for now as I definitely want to keep the trueborn and don't have any spares right now.
Klaivex is way to expensive I agree, and I see how onslaught isn't ideal for such a small squad but with all their multiple attacks it was what already did my BF in on our practice game (apparently I always have to be better than him he says lol)
As they did really well for me in my first game I'm going to keep them for now, however I think when I get the 4 extra troops I need I'll probably drop him to put them in =D

Not 100% sure on the archon as I was going to use huskblade on archon originally but thought even with combat drugs granting me +1 strength seems like I'd struggle to make wounds for it to come into effect. I'll try it again though as I'm sure one game is most certainly not enough testing XD

Was already considering grenade launcher for hekatrix as I was applying upgrade to my list. Cut the venomblade from Haemi and night shields on that raider for that & the extra speed.
Didn't really clock onto the haywire thing... you'd think after 2 years of playing YuGiOh I'd get used to the literal wording of things but nope apparently not. Problem Solving Card Text is needed in this codex ¬.¬

Actually not mentioning the guns was partly intentional, mostly cause I haven't 100% decided. Same with the shatterfield missles - only including them in list so I could allocate point space should I decide I do want them.
I really like Dark Lances but I'm just feeling like I should get a couple things in there that have a few more shots.

Thoughts on how to expand the army perhaps? Apart from another ravager XD

A little trick can be giving yourself huskblade and venom blade, with soultrap, so you use the venom blade to kill a character or monstrous creature then power up using the soultrap, and now you are a strength 6 instant death ap2 killing machine.

Thankyou ^_^
Played my first proper game today, only 1000 points as 3rd raider, 2nd venom, ravager and heamunculus are not here yet.
The guy used no vehicles as he'd left them at home and with me only having 1000 points he had to cut a fair bit of his army so we could play... this worked to my advantage on a purely infantry army - I just hung back and shot his scarabs and wraiths to pieces with splinter cannons so they wouldn't be a threat to my vehicles or close combat units then moved my incubi and wyches into close quarters.
Following others advice I challenged his lord obyron with my archon where after 3 rounds of combat neither of us had made a wound against the other (his septimal weave and my missing 2 of 4 attacks and failing to wound and my shadowfield holding up well). As per more peoples input this left my now free incubi (had done their job on troops already) to be assaulted by lychguard - I don't know wether this works or wether should still have been on the lord but anyway... they failed to do anything and quickly died to the ap3 power weapons. I feel personally that making the challenge did me no favours and that trying to hit obyron with everything would have been quicker and more beneficial as necron warriors in close combat weren't exactly going to be a threat.
Next time I think I'll go with my own instincts!

Definitely a lot more confident now though, just need to keep practising and adjusting things here and there.
Thanks to everyone here tho I can see a clearer path so yeh, thankyou =D

I won the game btw, eventually the huskblade did its job.... after 5 rounds of combat...I do like it just not going to rely on it ¬.¬

Keep in mind that if the Archon is part of the Icubi unit and you have a Klaivex the Archon doesn't have to be the one to do the challenges. Put the Klaviex in there and have the Archon outside slaughtering everything else around them. Its quite handy if someone particularly over resiliant HQ's like Overlords want to tie you up while another unit wipes you out.
Also consider not using challenges. Your Archon may not fight but you may have more chance to kill a lone HQ with 4 Incubi than with 1 Archon.
