If i run a blitz style threat maximization army, does having shooting support in it, the odd ravager or possibly some scourge take away from the effectiveness of the list or would it add to it since those shooty units might be safer since there are more important threats to worry about?

You mean raider rush right? Most of the old raider rush lists had shooting in them for AT since haywire nades weren't good enough to kill anything last edition. I THINK it should be fine, but I've only been playing for a few months so someone else would know better than me for sure.

If you want something very competitive I don't recommend taking Scourges. I have of them but only run them cause I like the models. If you want something to take are of tanks get 2 units of 5 wyches in venoms w/ HWG or 7-8 in a raider w/ HWG and a dark lance. Wyches are beasts at AT. From what I have seen from scourges they are essentially on a suicide mission. My last game they all died first round. It was quite sad.

Wyches used in this way are also suicide squads effectively. Scourges with a couple of haywire blasters can be effective at range. And they are cheaper!

Yea raider rush, throwing everything in their face on on either turn 1 or 2 achieving threat saturation, so that the next turn your bring the pain with wyches and haywire, grots with an IC, reavers lancing. Im just not sure if it would be better to contribute another threat via another raider or venom or use the opportunity that all those threats will create to use scourge and pick off units unhindered.

I have 10 as well and they are amazing models, i have used them once with haywire blasters and relied on them to take out a target which they wiffed then they died...it was very depressing.

5 scourge with 2 heat lances 135 points vs
5 wyches HWG in venom with duel splinter NS 135

The wyches are better in almost every regard, mobile, tougher since they are in a transport, good AI, can take out a vehicle, score, and contribute to the threat saturation.

I just cant justify fielding scourge in any purpose. 2 heatlances is not enough to reliably kill, people tell me 4 is overkill yet if you overshoot your deep strike you still fail at a higher cost. Maybe i just need to try out different combinations to get a feel for what can work with them.

Well, there are a few ways that i have heard of people using them that were a little different from usual that you may want to try. One was a guy taking 10 scourges with 4 darklances with the baron and deepstriking them onto the other guys flank then got them into cover and sniped side armor the rest of the game. Would i recommend it? No, but it was ballsy as all get out and got the job done lol. You could always try them with splinter cannons. In the end I really think that this is the best set up for them since if you're shooting armor your wasting all of those shard carbine shots and we have a lot better ways to pop armor than scourges now with haywire wyches and darklight being more effective at destroying things.

I think they really should be used as an AI platform, all Shardcarbines or Shardcarbines + Splinter Cannons.

They have firepower of 2.5 venoms. With the way Wound Allocation works that can even have some sense.

At least better then using them as overcosted AT platform.

I can agree with this. With the meta shifting to more foot armies I can see many lists bringing cannon scourges instead of blaster born to deal with increases number of infantry.

Maybe a Razorwing -or even a Voidraven- or two could bring something to your army in terms of shooting: anti-aerial, anti-horde (5" blasts), or simply against the opponent fire support at his deployment zone. I know reavers can do some of that, but this models are awesome (and in the game are quite resilient due to being fliers).

I also use the Blitz style: 3 units of Wyches , 1 of Incubi, 1 of Wracks, 2 Blasterborn etc... all of them in my opponent's face by turn 1-2, and I'm using 2 Ravagers and 1 Razorwing for fire support. By far, the Razorwing is more effective, and durable in this edition, so I'm planning of switching the 2 Ravagers for 1 or 2 more Razorwings.
