Here's an example of a flyer spam necron list in a battle report.

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/462099.page

As a DE player, I'd fight it with 2 voidravens. If I wanted to table in second turn I'd add an Autarch, Vect and Baron.

I proably go first (+1 to roll, 4+ to seize). In my first turn, the only necron unit in the table (necron lord) is out of LoS.... (maybe some Vibrocannons would help LOL). But then I wait for my second turn,, before his planes come to the board. My 2 voidravens come in a 2+ roll each. I fly over the lord and I drop my Bombs. If it doesn't die my shoot and assaut units are near because I went Flat Out in my first turn. He's pretty dead.

Another option is ally with IG, get the HQ unit which can nerf his reserve rolls, and do nearly the same to kill his units on the table.

Vehicle LoS is always determined from weapons. Case of point, the Chaos Dreadnaught. It has the crazed rule that makes it on a roll of 1 fire at the nearest visible unit, friend or foe. For a long time people thought that while the weapons on walkers have a 180 degree arc of fire, the model itself would have 360 degree line of sight, and would thus turn around and fire at a friendly unit standing behind it. The Chaos FAQ stated that this is incorrect and the Dread can't draw LoS on things outside its weapon range. No reason the same rule shouldn't apply to the Doomscythe, especially when in thta case the rules are actually listed under the weapon's entry. Even if it says "weapon's range" instead of "line of sight", well, the weapon's range obviously can't include things it can't shoot, now can it? That goes against the very definition of "weapon's range"!

Yep, very much this.

A weapon can only shoot at things in its LoS. It doesn't matter if it's within range, it can't shoot bullets back through itself to hit a guy behind it.

Those 2 guys are in my area, they play at one of the gaming stores I play at (I've played with both of them before).

I would pull a "Mushkilla" move and put all my bikes with caltrops on the board and just bloodvane that lone lord into submission. I personally think though they purposely scripted the opening turns just to see "what if" and also test how the public would react to their interpretation of the reserves and flyer transports.

I hope they continue this silly all reserve thing, it is definitely to our advantage even if they end up putting a block of warriors out there.

As long as you can prevent the Necron Lord from being placed within 3" of his Ever-Living counter, he can't come back. The easiest way to do this is with a lot of Reavers and Aethersailed skimmers.

Necron flyer spam is only unbeatable if you let those flyers come onto the board in the first place, and even then, an inventive player can still beat it, if not because the infantry they're transporting has to put their feet on the ground eventually...

Thank you! That's genius, you have just given me a massive advantage over necron flyer lists.

Although reavers have to move past a unit to bladevane them, as long as I can kill them with two units the third can set up to prevent the lord coming back. It will really depend what they run their lord with, still the odds are not bad.

Enjoy killing T6 2+ Destrolord with Reavers. And remember, necron will bye ADL anyway - he needs Comm Link for flyers, and some warriors would be on table from the start. Blob of 20 or perhaps some men from flyer's crew (heh, they still can be separated!)

===

Of course, if Necro is an idiot he will put lone Lord and die. And if he will survive Turn1, his death on turn2 wouldn't stop flyers from coming - for "auto-lose" rule, you need to have no forces AT THE END of player turn.

True, but If I go first then I have two turns to get two secondary objectives: first blood and kill the warlord. The comms will then be unmanned, so he won't get a re-roll and my army will be on his table edge in a great position to deal with his flyers. Hardly as broken as you make it sound.

This holds true for any DE army with a decent amount of mobility.

I'm thinking a squad of warwalkers would do the trick. 24 strength 6 shots for around 180? Yep, thatl'll kill flyers.
Sounds like a return of the old Mix Master attack from 3rd edition. Warlock with Guide (I think that's the power, I don't have my codex with me) in a nearby unit buffs them and you then open up with rerolls to hit and wound. War walkers were really uber just like how unarmed wraithlords were an amazing distraction, but people rarely took them for some reason.

Edit: Its actually a Farseer, but close enough.
