I've been considering ways to take advantage of the new rule which states if one character has preferred enemy, the entire squad gets it. This creates some interesting options for Vect, as he has preferred enemy against EVERYTHING, meaning all shooting and CC attacks for his unit will be re-rolls for to-hit and to-wound....this, combined with his seize the initiative roll of 4+ (going first could never be more important for us now, given that we need to move those vehicles 1"+ to get the jink save before fire comes at us and the VP for First blood) makes him still a good choice, even if he is only AP3 now.

It seems like the best option for a squad for Vect would be

x9 Trueborn
x4 Blasters
Raider
Vect

Or, for mass shooting :

x9 Trueborn
x2 Splinter cannon
Raider
Vect

I also considered Shard Carbines, but it seems the ability to move and still fire full Rapid Fire weapons makes Splinter Rifles a better value then the extra points it would take to upgrade them all to Shard Carbines.

Thoughts?

I think Vect would be brutal leading 9 trueborn all equipped with shardcarbines.

I think your points are better invested in a simple gunboar kabalite warrior unit in a raider (or 2) with splinter racks and an allied farseer with doom...

Nice concept though: I think that putting Vect in with Incubi wouldn't be a bad move...

Vect is a CC model(and now an okish CC model), no use in dumping that ammount of points to make him sit there, you can easily get a farseer for half the price which throws doom arround.

Maybe you put him with a squad of 9 incubi (seeing as they are one of our best bets at a CC unit with a decent save PW's) but its a massive point sink.

The idea is interesting,but the point cost is massive in my opinion

Vect + farseer with fortune = 2++ with rerolls to preserve it.
Even if he is only AP 3, that is one awesome tarpitting unit... of course they can just target the farseer, but thats why you stick them with Incubi.

If its termies, just stay away and disintegrate.

ramtastic - Farseer + anyone with a shadow field (other HQs) = 2++ with the re-rolls...

Frankly I'd keep the Farseer in a combat support unit (think the suggestion of Harlies was proposed on a different thread) - nearby so the powers are in range, but not near enough to be fully threatened - but if they were then the harlies give em a solid run for their money. This is why I'm keen to take Eldrad: doom on the enemy unit and 2 fortunes: 1 for our assaulting unit and 1 for Eldrad's guard Wink

Now that PE applies to dakka, the dais would be a good investment, imo. With maybe 9 trueborn.

Just remember the Farseer can't go in the boat so you'd have to keep the unit outside the transport.

Why not simply bring 20 Warriors with 2 Splinter Cannons, Vect? You could have another such unit nearby and just walk Vect over if they start to lose too many models.

The Eldar psychic powers like guide and fortune only work on Eldar according to their codex entry. Some people might argue that Dark Eldar are also Eldar, but they always seem to mention both races for stuff we have in common (Eldar and Dark Eldar jetbikes for example).

@Setomidor: This is exactly the best fit I came up with also, take 20 warriors with splinter rifles and 2 splinter cannons as an objective sitting/in-cover blob to lay down the fire base at the center of the table. Use 5 man basic wych squads with haywire grenades in venoms and ravagers/flyers as AT down each flank and bring the enemy into the middle of the board to face the firepower of this blob. If a haem passes a pain token they could have cover save + FnP roll on 20 guys, and 30 - 48 (depending on range) venom shots a turn with re-rolls to hit and wound! Maybe even a cheap Aegis defense line is in order, for 50 points these guys could have 4+ cover to go along with FnP and 48 shots with rerolls. Imagine the overwatch fire they can lay down when assaulted, 48 shots with re-rolls for the 6 to hit!

@Godreas: Yes, Vect is a CC powerhouse but with this kind of firepower being laid down with re-rolls the enemy CC will come your way, this blob is highly likely to get assaulted in which case Vect can jump out and challenge their IC. And he can always jump out later in the game and link up with a Klaivex and Incubi to chase people down, but I bet the party will come to him if you have this kind of dealth blob laying down fire in the center.

@Ceddyn: As for Farseer casting fortune, he can cast it on any eldar unit (agree not dark eldar) within 6". He himself is an eldar unit, so he can always cast it on himself. If he does, and is in a unit already with Dark Eldar thanks to the new 6th Ed. allies rules, they would get the benefit also because it clearly states allies can benefit (if they are battle brothers) as if they were friendly. I agree he couldn't cast fortune on other DE units but he can always cast it on himself so woudln't any DE unit he has joined benefit also from this?

are you all sure vect prefered enemy works for his squad. Im pretty sure he has prefered enemy, and it only works for him. The reason it works for SM is because the chaplains give it to their squad.

Vect w/ incubi is pointsink. Or did i miss something and Vect's single assault grenade also allow all Incubi to use their I rather then 1?

Anyway, it'll be deathstar which cannot kill basic termie squad. And we'll see more termies soon.

You always can put Vect w/ Blasterborn, then separate and go kill some MEQ.

*comment from man who never used Vect, seems too overpriced for simpe 4+ seize imo.

It actually wasnt a points sink if you managed to steal first turn. saved me alot of times from being pelted off the board first turn.

Now though his not worth the points anymore.

Why not add the Duke in as well? True it's even more points, but it would be fun.

Heck, why not go for broke and do: Duke, Vect, Farseer w/ Divination (maybe Foreboding and Misfortune!) 20 Warriors w/ 2 splinter cannons, all in a Aegis Defense line w/ Quad-Gun (Vect shoots it w/ BS8!). If possible (2000+ points) add in the Baron for stealth and grenades. After that dare those 5 terminators to assault you.

Yes I know this would be expensive as heck, but you gotta admit it would be fun.

Alternatively stick them onto the Skyshield landing pad. It gives 4++ saves to units on it, and unless they FAQ it, a big unit can block all the access points, preventing the enemy from climbing up and assaulting you.

It's a big landing pad ontop of four pillars. The pillars have ladders leading to access points on the pad. If you park a model on top of the access point, then the enemy can't come up the ladder (can't move within 1'' of an enemy model). Since you can't see through the pad, they can't assault you through the access point eighter (new rules sate you must see the enemy to assault). The thing need an FAQ to clarify if it's a building or a terrain piece, since now it seems to combine rules of both, and it's not clear if you can only move on it through the access points.
