Dark Eldar and Allies Empty
PostSubject: Dark Eldar and Allies   Dark Eldar and Allies I_icon_minitimeTue Jul 03 2012, 14:43

I was looking at the allies part of the rule book and was thinking that with all these new and shiny pyschic powers, that I may just have to go and grap a couple Eldar Farseers to utilize those powers. I was also wondering what armies people were thinking of allying were their DE and what specific roles they were going to have them play.

I will probably only consider allies at >2k points but if I do then it will probably be Eldrad and 1 or 2 squads of Pathfinders. Scoring units in cover with a 2+ rerollable cover save, rerolling misses and wounds and with any hit rolls of 5+ being AP1 and any 6's allowing me to allocate wounds! Plus psychic defence from Runes. Lovely!

I think most people will end up running with Eldar for their Allies and probably not until closer to 2k points.

If I don't take Eldar then I have been thinking of ether a Power Axe Chaos lord with a unit of Bezerkers and a Axe champion or a Brother Captain in a GK Term squad with Halbards and Demon Hammers.

Ether fills a heavy CC roll that can handle Terminators and other solid CC units and as such a unit may also draw fire from my DE as they close the cord around the rest of the army's throat.

Probably Eldar. Runes is the best psychic defence in game, and those powers look rather nice as well. Besides, could finally use my Eldar for something. I also have Chaos so might consider them as well, but they don't synergise as well with use since their psychic powers won't work on us. Still, they have terminators.

Allies can't take our transports, so are they destined to be on foot? If we're zooming forwards, who will our allies keep up? I guess we'll be able to unlock an Wave Serpent......

If you're running a Farseer, he can't use his powers of of the Serpent, tho. You could give him a jetbike. That way he can keep up with our units (by the way, a jetbike seer is actually pretty eays to conver. The plastic High Elf mage on a horse fits on our jetbike with minimal converting. Just give him a Farseer helmet and you're done).

You could put Eldrad, or a Farseer, with a unit of Harlequins with a Shadow Seer, this stops units over 24 inches away from shooting, gives him a nice unit to wade it with, if he has to, and is quite a fluff fit to the cross over of Eldar and Dark Eldar.

I would recommend giving all the Harlequins the kiss upgrade for the Rending special rule, not giving the Leader a power weapon and taking a Death Jester to erally kick out some long range death for a giggle.

For troops I would be looking at a unit of Dire Avengers with Blade storm in a Star cannon or bright lance equipped Wave serpent. This give some armour punch from the vehicle and then a lot of shots from the unit that you can Guide and Doom the target unit.

Heavy support I would go for a fire base of 3 war walkers for maximum fire power and with imobilised vehicles in a unit no longer being removed it makes them a hell of a lot more lethal.

Well thats my two cents anyway.

Well if i take eldar as allies i will more then likely take an autarch, some rangers and some other stuff, as i would like to keep it piratical XD

maybe i'll even take the Imperial guard Codex, to build me a small Rogue Trader list, consisting of a Lord Kommissar, some elite Veterans in Valkyre and some Mercenaries as troop choice... just some models i would like to play, for the fun of it.

When Forgeworld will release their FAQs - it will probably be Corsairs.

This is where I'm going (ordered some Corsair stuff last night). Out of curiosity, why do you need an FAQ to run Corsairs as allies?

Don't think I will be allying much. Scouts however would indeed be nice! The rest we seem to be able to do excellent by ourselves.

question - are we able to hornets as allies without allying with the rest of the corsairs list?
i dont have the FW book they are in, so I cant recall if they are also a FA choice for a craftworld Eldar list.

Which book are the Corsairs Rules kept in? Now that Vampire Hunters are battle brothers - would it be worth taking one of these beasts in much larger games?! Anyone know if their rules are any good?! Very Happy

The Corsairs are in IA 11 The Doom of Mymeara. They are legit(if you don't plan on assaulting anything!).

mmy question about allies isnt so much who to take as to what? granted eldar cusins will without faill assist us and visversa, but what of the rest of our options? IG have plenty of artillery id like to ally with. templars have a variaty of assault units that could help too. and what of chaos(demons or marines) defilers and demon princes grant accsess to a powerfull seige engine or a flying MC with EW. just adding my thoughts

I just did a very cheesy deathstar with Eldrad, Drazhar. 5Incubis 2Haemon and a warlock. Its super expensive but oh so unkillable if you roll invisible as a spell.
2+ cover save that you can reroll and +5fnp, everything has 1ws against it aswell Smile.

Its not good due to the huge pointsink, but I had fun. My opponents probably didn't.

Gotta agree, Eldrad buffing a unit of pathfinders is horrific! Unfortunately Precognition targets only the Psyker so you can't reroll wounds AFAIK.

Considering the benefits Eldrad brings to the table, it's not a bad price to pay. Am I right in thinking that his 'Divinaton' ability (not related to the psychic discipline) can be used on Dark Eldar units during deployment?

Cheers for that Evil! Will look at acquiring a copy sometime when I have the money Smile

Yeah I think Eldrad makes a very solid choice because of his versatility of powers and abilities and survivability too: 3++ with a re-roll is not to be sniffed at! Am I right in thinking that if he joins a unit with FnP (like firenz's mental incubi unit above) then he gains FnP too because USRs are shared across all models in the unit? If so then is it possible to re-roll FnP saves with Fortune???

On a different front, the 2 other allies I'd really only ever consider (because they're evil - although the naivety of tau does appeal!) are Chaos Space Marines (manipulation time! Particularly think Night Lords make fluffy allies) and Daemons (for the Sharr-dom references and contrast to Dark Eldar's fear: no Slaanesh daemons would be used however!))

Whats people's thoughts especially about DE with CSMs?

I'd stick with the codex powers on Eldrad so he can give his own unit rerollable saves and misses and Doom an enemy unit to allow rerolls on wounds.

The fact that all Eldar Jetbikes now have a 36" Turbo boost makes a biker Farseer with RJBs very appealing. He still has to worry about dangerous terrain tests, but since those apply based on his specific movement rather than the other models, they should be simple to avoid.

I really have no desire to ally with anyone, but if I ever do then a Jetseer/RJB combo appeals the most to me. Pathfinders maybe, especially with their fluff - I always hoped they would be a part of our new 'dex, but really I much prefer units with high speed and mobility.

Might have to raid my son's CWE - oh yeah, he has Hornets and Warp Hunters too, hmmm .......

Im thinking of a all jetbike army, using guardians as troops (and maybe hellions too)

3 9 man rjb
1 10 man guardian bike squad
1 5 man shining spear squad (with sarge for skilled rider)
3 5 man hellion squads
1 seer
baron

I was toying with the same idea but I can't help thinking thinking that the Divination power that lets you ignore cover saves will be massively useful, especially against armies with a lot of bikers or skimmers.
