PostSubject: Imotekh and night fighting   Imotekh and night fighting I_icon_minitimeTue May 29 2012, 15:50

Greetings, fellow denizens. I'm hoping you can help me with a problem I'm having. My husband runs necrons and recently picked up Imotekh the stormlord. He plays him with a chronometron to allow a reroll on any d6 for his unit. This is bad for me, since he keeps night fighting in effect. Granted, we Dark Eldar get rerolls on our vision distance, but it's forcing my ships and dakkaborn to be considerably closer than I really want to be. Attempts to bring down this unit meet with little success, as necrons are notoriously difficult to keep in their graves. Suggestions and/or advice for a new archon who is desperate to destroy the necrons?

When I faced the Storm lord a couple weeks ago it was a Dawn of War mission and elected to move 2nd and not set any DE on the board and had it all enter the game on the first turn. This did take away a turn of lightning off my units but just for a turn. I liked the way that worked and could see that working with full reserve shenanigans with the way I play. I would have gone full reserve while still giving my opponent the 1st move and stay out of his guns reach (letting the lightning do its thing) until I had the majority of my units on the board for a late game rush.

Not sure if that would work for you without seeing your list and knowing how you play. For me, I like more assault based DE lists with a couple shooting elements – I often use WWP’s so I am used to dealing with the randomness of reserves.

If you are using a “venom spam” style list then you got a pretty good problem – I cannot help you there, not my style of play.

That's actually a good idea. My current list is 1250 points.
Asdrubael Vect
Duke Sliscus
8x hekatrix bloodbrides
haywire grenades, 3x shardnet and impaler
syren
agoniser, haywire grenades, phantasm grenade launcher
9x trueborn
2 splinter cannon, 7 shardcarbine, haywire grenades
10x kabalite warrior
6x wych
haywire grenades, 1 razorflails
hekatrix
agoniser, blast pistol, haywire grenades, phantasm grenade launcher
3x raider
nightshield, flickerfield
2x venom
splinter cannon, nightshield

I'm currently very limited in what I can play, my wallet not being what I'd like it to be, and having to feed two addictions to the game. We've been sticking to kp missions so I can learn the game.

you have two choices

A: Let him go first, reserve, and bring yourself in and let him have it

B: Go first... and kill anything in its way

With a 12" deployment, 12" move, and being able to fire everything, most of your damage should be done quickly and effectiently.

Also remember that Necrons can be sweeped pretty easily, so if you run those bloodbrides + Vect into Imotek T1, you can easily pick him off the battlefield and never have to do deal with that pesky lightning again.

+1 to Shadows.

Just go all reserve or Alpha Strike him.

Problem with setting up for alpha strike is the stormlords ability to sieze on 4+.
Don't know if you can sieze it back after him with Vect, I would think not as you would have elected to go first.

Sadly, I have a hard time rolling well to play first. One of his favourite things to do is have me deploy first then take the initiative and go first. (Ironically, it's one of my favourite tricks too.) Definitely going to have to try getting at that pesky stormlord t1 and get him off the board. Just need to get through the deathmarks he's hanging around with. ^.^

Go full reserve and elect to go 2nd so you will avoid 2 entire turns of Lightening. When your units start to come on the board, try to focus on one half of his force. As you will be in piecemeal, you want to try to avoid half of his force.

If he is moving forwards, then over 2 turns he should be at or over the halfway line, putting things in Wyches charge range.

You also want to focus fire onto 1 or 2 units of his and completely eradicate them on one turn. Dark Eldar do not do 1 on 1 fights - we have to over power enemy units, usually 2 or even 3 to 1.

God luck in your games, look forward to hearing how it all goes.

Rulebook specifically says that you can't attempt to sieze the initiative back if your opponent siezes it.

he is with deathmarks??? then just shoot them or assault them. They are just expensive warriors... and die just that easily. Now if he was with Crypt Guards (or whatever pariahs are called nowadays) then I can see being kinda worried. Just throw some incubi at him and watch them get killed. Its not like the Stormlord even has a power weapon anyway...

deathmarks are like slightly more expensive immortals (3+), not warriors(4+). that group is also with a veiltek, chances of getting in assault range are if he wants it or makes a dumb mistake.

are you sure??? I thought they had a 4+, but just had stealth. Although I am not a Cron know-it-all, so I could be wrong. I though that only 3+ they had was immortals, pariah wantabes, and praetorians (oh... and lords)

yep I'm sure. crons are my main army. that group will run 5-7 deathmarks, a veiltek, imotekh, and maybe a chronotek. It isn't overtly hard to kill, if you can catch it (or if it kills itself via scatter).
