PostSubject: 650 Low-leagues Competitive Army   650 Low-leagues Competitive Army I_icon_minitimeWed Jan 24 2018, 12:52

Hey, I'm the first reserve at a competitive league with my teammates of Death Guard, Ultramarines, T'au and Tyrannids  (completely unrelated to my army but still) and I thought this forum could check if my army's good enough if one of our guys is a no-show.
My army is entirely Kabal of the Flayed Skull for the sake of fluff purposes just FYI

My army is as follows:
Battalion detachment:
HQs:
Archon with Huskblade and Blaster
Archon with Agoniser and The Parasite's Kiss

Troops:
6 Kabalite Warriors and Sybarite with a Raider dedicated transport
Raider with Dark Lance and Shock Prow
6 more Kabalite warriors and Sybarite with a raider dedicated transport
Raider with Disintegrator Cannon
6 more Kabalite warriors and Sybarite with a raider dedicated transport
Raider with Dark Lance

I know it's small but it's a 650 pts army so what do you think? I need to improve so any comment a can help, thanks Very Happy

~2000 pts army, ~1500 pts built army, ~1400 painted army,  ~650 pts of finished army! cheers

I usually think huskblades are some of the worst weapons so throw that one out?
For the rest the army does not look bad, although a bit bland.
I am unsure about you but I always like to field different units, which is harder but not impossible in such small games (, although this will likely come at the cost of command points, or not being just kabal).
You can replace a raider with a ravager, with some switching of points.
You can replace a raider with a venom (although then you do get very light on anti tank weapons)
You can replace some warriors with incubi/wyches

you don't have some venom instead of raiders? you have 3 raiders and 6 warriors in each, i think it can be better if you go for 5warriors units and take venoms, so you will have some more point to use for one more unit.

Drop an Archon. Drop a unit of Warriors, and all your raiders.

Take 5 man warrior units with blasters. Put them in Venoms.

Add a Razorwing Jetfighter and as many Mandrakes as you can afford.

Having -1 to hit on everything on the table is really really good. It gives your opponent no good options. Some people in low points will try to cheese as well by going really hard in one direction and bringing all deathwing knights and just hoping to be unkillable. Blasters/DLs and the mortal wounds from Mandrakes deal with that well, but you still have enough splinter weaponry and missiles to deal with hordes pretty effectively.

Also never take a huskblade on Archon. It's the worst option available AND more than twice the cost of an agoniser iirc.

Do you think a Voidraven and Scourges with heat lances may replace the need for a Jetfighter and Mandrakes? I already have these models but I don't have any Jetfighters or Mandrakes

A void raven helps with anti tank and heavy infantry with the 1/game bomb, but it's too specialised for a small game because against infantry heavy lists you'll never earn back it's points.

Heat lance scourges are hilariously bad. Don't take them ever.

Technically yes heat lance scourges can substitute for a voidraven. But you will need more points of heatlance scourges than points in voidraven for the same effect.
The problem is that as pointed out right now heat lances are one of our worst weapons. They are slightly worse then dark lances, and cost more. The main reason why heat lance scourges really fail is that the heat lance is build to optimize the scourges weak point.
Scourges have 1 huge advantage over vehicles (deep strike) and one big disadvantage (survivability).
Now you deep strike 9" so you cannot use the heat lance better damage, which is bad, but you also still have to be close to the enemy (18" means most things can get in rapid fire range and possibly even assault you next turn) which means you will be hard pressed to keep them safe. In games like cityfight (with lot's of los and movement blocking terrain and relatively few big tanks) they will do a lot better.
Right now the heat lances are usable just vastly overpriced, which makes dark lances, blasters better alternatives.

He was asking about replacing a RWJF and Mandrakes with a Voidraven and Heat Lance scourges. Not replacing the Voidraven with scourges.
