| Hypothetical question.
Ultimately I plan to own 6 pain engines (they are one of the main reasons I love the Dark Eldar model range). Currently I have 3, 2 talos and 1 cronos, should I keep at the same ratio? 2:1 as I expand.
I'm hopeful that a predominantly coven force can be effective once the codex hits but until then I have time to prepare for the true soul masters.

| Is magnetising an option for you?
I have but one pain engine in my collection, but it is set to fill both roles. _________________ This world exists because of the things we have done, forever branching to the decisions we make and twisting to what we do not.

| I don't own an updated pain engine (I do have 3 of the old scorpion ones though) but I will jump on the magnetise band wagon. My tyranids are and it saves a lot of heart ache, and surprisingly easy to do! Just need a scalpel (drills are helpful too) and green stuff! | |

| I haven't playtested yet (got a project backlog that probably isn't good for my economy), but I'm going for equal amount of talos to cronos (2 of each) and it will hopefully enable me to spread the danger a bit. Thinking of keeping a team in the back against deepstrike and move the other team forward. | |

| I would stick to just one Cronos and run three or more Talos.
It is doing even less than a Talos before combat and only has value next to a Talos or Grotesques or a character. Having just one means your opponent has to either focus fire to kill it or the units it's healing before they get into combat.

| Personally i like cronos's better, they do more damage/wounds and fill a better AI roll (something i normally lacking) than the Talos for cheaper, also helps you a bit more mid to late game if you play with beasts or incubi to make sure you get the wounds in.
I give him the extra flamer, this way he has 2 flamers. Use him more as a support roll to help deal more damage where you need it.
!!!!! BUT !!!!
Wait for codex to fully build it, try to just play with one without arms/tails for now. Our codex will make many things cheaper and better (its a growing trend with them) _________________ New to Blogging, just starting https://maddpaint.blogspot.com/

Just a point, but the Cronos only has 1 Flamer - it's other ranged weapon is a 18" gun. It's an important distinction because it means you don't auto-hit - meaning half your shots will miss due to only having BS4+. That aside, my interest in the Cronos dropped when I saw that GW had knocked its flamer down to S3 for . . . no reason whatsoever. Sigh.

I always wondered the reasoning for GW avoiding S4 DE flamers like the plague..

| I didn't even bother magnetizing. I took a random broken necron destroyer torso and the kit came with enough bits I could build a Talos and a Cronos. | |

| For about $10 at a bits reseller you can get the only pieces that a Talos and Cronos share, and get both models out of a single kit.
All of my Wraithlord-turned-Pain Engines are magnetized so they can be a Talos or Cronos as the need arises.
