Hello everyone,
as promised, here is the battle report of my first 8th edition game.
We player relic on a hammer and anvil deployment but due to the fact that
we shared the table with my friends playing shadow war simultaneously, we
only had 48 x 36 inches.
I used the following list:
2x Archon with PGL, Blaster and Agoniser
3x 5 Kabalites with PGL, Blaster and Agoniser
2x Raider with Lance
1x Ravager with Lances
1x Razorwing with Disintegrator and two splinter rifles.
6x Mandrakes
He had (roughly)
2x Plaguecaster
1x The guy wwith the bell
2x 7 Plague Marines
1x 20 Poxwalkers
1x Feotid Blight Drone
Maximum on Plasma pistols and Plasma guns.
I deployed faster and got the first turn.
I Move forward with the Raiders and get into rapid fire range trying to
kill the poxwalkers (don´t want them to multiply).
So I´m standing on the relic with both raiders.
My shooting is ineffective as he starts to save nearly every damage and in
return I hit very poorly. Example: His drone looses 8 wounds to the
ravager and he manages to ignore 5 of those with his disgustingly resilent
throws. And that proceeded the whole damn game! He rolled as if it was a
3+++ not a 5+++.
Glad that he is a fun guy to play against.
He moves forward and shoots my raiders with the plasma guns, puttig some
damage on the troop transporting raider. But he isn´t in range with the
drone but I inform him that he should be able to advance and still shoot
(it´s an assault weapon after all). So he promptly rolls a 6 and puts like
7 damage on the raider. Wtf! That thing is reeeeeaaaally nasty!
He advances with the poxwalkers too, is nearly on top of the relic now too.
2nd turn:
two troops and my Archons get out. My mandrakes pop up next to one of his
plague casters. Shooting is nearly ineffective again, just killing some
poxwalkers at least, now reducing them to about 6-8 dudes. (Those are
immune to morale tests. Damn...)
Taking of some wounds of the drone again so that it´s at 5 wounds left.
I attack with a squad against plague marines (The dissis managed to kill
one. Yeah...) supplemented by one archon. The other attacks the plague
caster together with a raider.
What I am glad about is, that plague marines aren´t that good in combat
anymore. Not two attacks, but one.
He takes the shadowfield away from the together-with-the-raider-charging
archon at the first swing (great) whereas I do´nt do damage.
One squad attacks the poxwalkers, managing to kill two and getting no
casualty in return.
His second plague marines try to walk around the combat and get to the
relic but it´s still at least one turn in the future.
3rd and 4th turn:
Mosh pit continues and I finally succeed in killing the drone (barely!)
My Raider is down to one wound but I barely managed to kill the poxwalkers
and got 3 Kabalites left.
The one plague marines are dead and the mandrakes that failed to charge
last turn and did not do any damage (12 shots, 4 hits...wtf? I rolled like
that the whole time!) were killed and the last one died due to morale.
But at least, finally the one plague marine squad died in close combat,
together with the kabalite squad. So only one archon, his bell guy and a
plague caster (unharmed) alive. I lost the second shadowfield.
As soon as the poxwalkers were small enough I grabbed the relic with the
last warrior squad (their transport shot and charged a plaguecaster, but
did nothing) and tried to run away.
His second Plaguemarine squad charged the glorious "poxwalker-killers",
managing to kill them all, except for the Sybarite.
In the end I got:
Ravager unharmed
Razorwing unharmed
Raider with 7 wounds
Raider with 1 wound (Damn! vehicles ARE resilent!)
One Archon with 2 wounds (the other one got killed)
One last Sybarite standing
5 Warriors running with the relic
He got: 3 Plaguemarines, leaving the lone Sybarite combat, trying to
follow the relic guys.
A plague caster and the bell guy locked in close combat with the archon.
He tries to shoot him with an overcharged plasma pistol and kills himself.
Totally irrelevant for the game because those two were too far gone but:
Wohoo! That´s stuff made for movies!
My Ravager kills two more Plague marines (from the guys following the
relic) and my freed up Archon and a Raider charge the Caster. At that
point he gave up, having no hope in ever getting to the relic again and
getting slowly killed.
Disclaimer: I haven´t mentioned the Razorwing much because his Dissis were
utterly useless against Plague Marines. Like. Every. Other. Damn. Weapon.
On. That. Thing!
Things I have learned:
1. Get another Ravager!
2. Close Combat is inevitable(spelled right?) and using some dedicated
close combat units may be nice.
I own the metal Incubbi but I don´t like them and I´m currently waiting
for the toughest Girls Of The Galaxy 2 Version of the Incubbi. Those will
wreck face against Marines, even egainst Plague Marines.
3. mandrakes are not good against units that tough (or I just rolled
really bad. Well...I rolled horribly, so...). Use them against Toughness 4
guys.
4. Disses aren´t that great. Why are they more expensive then Dark lances?
Use. More. Dark. Lances. Those are great!
Sorry, I haven´t taken pictures with my potato phone. I forgot to.
