Yep SM are cheaper AND they clearly benefit the most from all the rules leaked so far. 7 point grav pistols that shoot in CC is huge as well. SM will be kings in 8th. Expect many more buffs for them coming soon.

| Space Marines are not going to be that great in 8th, they're what everything is balanced around that's why we see them so much. _________________ Really terrible videos about tiny plastic space elfs intended to help you get gud scrub: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcZP8WGIhte5TmCWQXsZO4A

That depends entirely on how they point everything else. They, historically, haven't been particularly good at putting point costs on things. _________________ All hail Megatron!!!!! No, I mean Starscream!!!!!

Oh go on, since you seem to know how all the rules work, what does Grav do now? I take it you missed that the Multi Melta went from 10 to 27pts.

| I bet grav wont suck. Multi meltas went up in pts. Oh boo-hoo. Melta strips wounds like a boss now and wound stripping is a huge deal in 8th, they can also move and shoot and split fire from a no-scatter drop pod. The fact is SM got cheaper and much MUCH better. They clearly benefit the most from the rules leaked so far My prediction of SM ruling 8th is an educated guess based on what rules we have seen so far. Not hopes and dreams. Tell you what. If SM aren't top tier and DE are i will happily admit i was wrong. | |

| We see marines so much because they are quite literally the poster children of the game. They will be contenders like every edition of the game.

| And we see marines that much because they are most armies: over 1/3 of all the 30? armies they have on their website is space marine or equivalent. So it makes sense they show a lot of those canned goods. I hate them but they are their poster child, their favorite and the thing that makes them the most money. Most people consider ultramarines and space wolves different, let alone chaos marines. So jeah that you see more of some space marines then other factions makes sense even if I hate those heartless double hearted morons.

| I expect the price decrease on space marines is probably to make room for the "new" marines to be similarly priced to the old marines in order to sell models. Since the "new" marines bolters still have an AP value of -1, they're more similar to how old bolters used to work, and aside from that the new marines just have an extra wound and attack.
So the "new" marines will probably be 3 points more expensive.

| I could see Space Marines being the big bad in 8th but if there is real unbalance I'm guessing it will lead to power creep. If any army is going to be over powered I'd rather it be Marines for the sakes of new players. That said, I think it would be better for all players new and old if the game were better balanced, but what else is new? _________________ My 8th edition fandex is complete enough for appraisal (note that I completed it before any previews had been released) . | Sorry to back to the main topic, but it just struck me that power levels are a perfect solution to kill points.
They're approximately equal to the value of a unit, easy to add up, and avoid the kind of bit-picking around army building that arbitrary points-to-VPs encourages. Eg, if every 100 pts or part thereof was worth a vp when the unit died, you'd be strongly incentivised to build your units at 99, 199, 299 pts etc...
Here's hoping power levels replace kill points, and the days of a dead Venom contributing as many VPs as a full Paladin squad are over! _________________ The Dark Eldar and Dissynergy. 3d printed Dark Eldar bits on Shapeways.
