So the last game I had, marines beat me on a technicality. so I was thinking of throwing triple ravagers at him the next round. Yeah, he was meched up, but only used transports. So, should I have them all equipped with lances for that tank popping goodness, or should I equip one for some face melting disintegrator fun?

I'm not too worried about the other half of my army, since I run two dual cannon venoms with dual cannon trueborn and loads of hellions.

well... this isn't really a 'list' topic. I'm looking for opinions on wether or not I should go dual ravagers with lances or triple ravagers. It'll help me flesh out my heavy support section better.

This probably belongs in either Tactics or Army Lists.

I'm a little confused by what you're asking though - you're asking whether you should go with 2 all Lance Ravagers and 1 all Dissie Ravager or 3 all Lance Ravagers, yeah?

Well...the basic answer really is - what's the rest of your list look like?

Here's my quick bit of advice - when you were fighting the Marine player, were you having trouble killing the vehicles or the units inside them? Also, what on his side was killing the most of your stuff? Take Ravagers that help deal with that problem.

Totally sight unseen random guess? I'd say take nothing but Lance Ravagers, probably if I saw your list I'd claim it didn't have enough anti-mech anyway Wink

The other part of my list is 2x 7 hellions, two venoms with dual splinter cannons, and two five-man groups of trueborn, both with dual splinter cannons, and sometimes a jetfighter (mainly because I love the model so damn much).

Nightshields on all the vehicles? of course.

The only trouble I had was dealing with his dual rhinos and drop podded 'nought. Drowning his infantry was no problem and I also like the disintegrators for their terminator melting goodness. Probably why he went after the dissie toting one first, heheh.

but right now, I'm just looking for discussion about the ravagers.

Modded - moving to more appropriate 'Tactics' thread. Gobsmakked.

DE units more than nearly any other army do not exist in a vacuum, this is doubly true for the anti-tank section. It is very hard to discuss ravagers without discussing the rest of the army or even just anti-tank in general.

DE can field Anti-tank in every slot in the force org but the price in points to effectivness is varied. The cheapest is the Heavy Support slots with triple DL Ravagers because of the relatively low price it is often reccomended that you spam 3 of them as a quick boost to your AT. Next is probably your elite slots with the ever popular blasterborn 3 trueborn w/blasters in a venom @ 146pts (yes cheaper units with AT exist but not with as many AT weapons). Fast Attack contains a couple of options Scourges 5 w/2 blasters @ 140 and reavers in multiples of 3 w/1 heat lance @ 78. Troops have 5 kabalites w/blaster in venom @ 125pts. HQ archons can tote a blaster if required and some of the SC come with blast pistols. Oh and nearly every infantry unit can take a raider as transport that comes stock with another DL.

All of the above deals with cheap effective ranged AT that can be taken in various force org slots but our AT abilities are not just confined to the ranged a couple of effective melee options exist; Wyches w/haywire grenades can put a dent in any vehicle in the game and are especially useful in tarpitting dreads; Beastmasters - or to be more precise razorwing flocks can kill anything with a back armour of up to 11 fairly well and with a 12" charge can surround a transport easily before they kill it (thus killing the unit inside on a wreck result).

Special mention should go to the haywire blaster (scourges and Talos) which won't often kill anything but is a reliable vehicle suppression tool.

So how much anti-tank is enough? - only you can answer this question based on your local meta (and your luck or lack there of with dice) and the prevelance of tanks. As you can see the options are wide and varied but the cheapest is the ravager and whilst that doesn't mean you should always take 3 with DL it does mean you should be concious of your choices.

Depends on what point level you are playing at.
I say you can never have enough AT. I noticed that over time in my lists (as I'll often just tweak a few things game to game) my AT to AI ratio is slowly tipping way towards AT and way less AI, for example I've only been running 3 to 4 Venoms and 5 to 6 Raiders. Once your enemy is on foot then you can easily outmanouver them, and focus fire on whatever unit(s) you want to destroy that turn.
So I'd run with 3 Ravagers with all Dark Lances. If you have a lot of AT in your other slots then you can run with a Razorwing in reserve, elsewise it will probably get shot out the sky before you can unload those sexy missiles.

I'm also slightly confused at this topic...why do you hold a grudge? What did he do to make you that upset?

Don't hold a grudge man. Just learn from the past game and improve on the next. If you couldn't take care of his tanks quick enough then take more AT - 3 Ravagers will help out but don't think of them as the ducks nuts...

You need back up, usually in the form of TB, HL's, HWG to name just a few

me personally I like scourges to take care of transports... One with a Haywire Blaster, and the other with a Blaster... just pick at the thing until it pops... then your scourges get free goodies...

If you were having trouble popping his tanks take triple DL, it it was his infantry it's 50/50

Triple lance ravagers of 3 should do the trick on his tanks Smile

fill the rest on splinter cannons to destroy his marines once the they are out the tanks.

haha no. when i said "hold a grudge", that's me just screwing around. It's more like the baron has become screaming mad and killed off six members of his kabal because they failed him.
