I'm sure most of you have your new codex: The interesting thing is a fluff section called the 'The Age of Plenty'.

I know it may of been a cheap way of cutting some of the characters from the codex for the time being. But you can see the Forging of the narrative taking place. Vect and Lady Malys are moving their pieces to take over. I feel the reason why Vect and Lady Malys are not able to be used on Real Space raids at the moment is due to their in-fighting. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top!

What is everyone's opinion on this?

It will never move forward so we will never find out. When the codex writers looked at the fluff they realized that things weren't grimdark for dark eldar so they put that in to tie us to the 13th crusade end times, but because it's tied to that there will never be resolution.

If it were to move forward I think Vect would win, but the interference of harlequins could make the difference. I personally would hope Malys wins, I like her character, and her story line. Also if she were to win it would be cool if Vect was still around plotting to take back his city.

So I have a theory, its kinda a random one based mostly on the fluff that is in the new codex but not so much in the old.

A) Khaine's Gate - There is something powerful behind there that wants out
B) Harlequins - There is no unit entry but there are more references to them then we got in the last codex even with the unit entry
C) Cergorach - References to the harelquin's god having fled somewhere in the webway
D) Age of plenty - A sharp increase in all the pain that normally exists inside Commorragh
E) The fact that dark eldar and harlequins have been receiving some kind of protection from Slaanesh, and get "Power from Pain"

I think when this is all added together we are looking at the birth of a new god/reinvention of an old god (Cergorach) as a god of pain/suffering. It would explain why several of these pieces of fluff have been included together and give lots of options on future paths to take with both the narrative and model line/ruleset. If this is true they may be setting up factions of Dark Eldar (hence all the infighting) to either follow or not follow this new god when it emerges.

I'll have to disagree, the fluff keeps moving forward, even if it's a tiny little bit. Warhammer 40k is full of things happening before the year 40.000 in fact it should be called warhammer 35k better
Eventually GW will have to move further than 999 41M. It's not such a big deal, the empire is changing a lot, and I'd enjoy seeing humans become an underdog. A completely new Era is slowly being introduced. It's not just this codex, a lot of other codex are moving forward, the Age of PLenty is one of the many names for this new era.

Best example of progression is the tyranids, their fluff moves forward every codex, new addition fluff keeps appearing, the nids keep absorbing more and more and they keep penetrating deeper into the galaxy.

Now I can happily say I don't only disagree, but I can also prove you wrong. Nobody here has read the Coven supplement it seems Smile, the storyline, the fluff on Khain's gate was expanded in the supplement.

Here's what you don't know:

Khaine's Gate:

This could be a deamonic infestation, it's what most people think is it, however Commorragh still has many sub realms, gates can be closed, it's all a minor inconviniece really, the dark eldar are a lot more advanced than anyone expects them to be, you especially notice this in the supplement.

Something else that is bound to happen: the awekening of Ynead, the eldar god of death. furthermore all the ancient eldar gods are not all dead, some are still kept prisoner within the warp, at some point eldar may chose to go rescue them, who knows, maybe it's simply Ynead knocking on Khain's gate or maybe it's Khaine himself, or maybe it's just She who Thirsts.

In the Valedor book (which is mentioned in these last 2 books), Ynead is shortly mentioned, some seers are so bold to believe in his coming, some deny this fact. fact or fiction, reality or desillusion, something is forming within the warp, something strong, something powerful, something eldar. Ynead will deliver the emprisoned eldar gods, take the battle right to the deamons, all eldar, humans & some other factions will form an alliance to fight chaos one final time, this will be the Rana dandra. As more and more eldar die, Ynead is slowly growing, till the day he awakens. Dark Eldar also count in this equation.

I couldn't agree more, Khain. I think that in due time we should expect the release of ''Warhammer 40,000: End Times''. It really is not far fetched by any means, not to me anyway. They will expand the backround, which will open the alleyway to way more in the realm of units, suppliments, books, dataslates, ect. These are all things that make good money, but more importantly are very interesting for us 40k afficionados. I'd pay a dollar for that, or $150... whatever it is (The sad truth! lol). ''40K End Times: Vect'' , ''40K End Times: Abbadon'', ect. ect... just wait. besides who WOULDN'T be interested in End times? Even if people's armies or faction lose/die people will still love them and play them. Fantasy End Times and The IA Horus Heresy have proven this. I will keep playing Dark Eldar even if they all get destroyed, they're my favourite faction.

I agree with you two. (which dark eldar would disagree slaanesh AND khaine anyway:p ).
Throughout all codices there is the message "the end is near".
Unlike WFB, the 40k universe is already pretty frak up, so how much worse can it get?

Speaking of end times, in Thanquol, the Skaven seem to call the eldar from a slann device by accident.

Thats perfectly probable, the Slann have had interstellar/interplanar contacts since the first Ed.

“The warlock engineers soon discovered the Device of the Great Beyond, a communication apparatus that spoke to beings from beyond the stars. As they swirled its many dials, a querulous voice spoke through the stone speakers. That voice, fair and clear caused the Skaven to bolt away. The device was something like the far-squeaker, but the melodious tones that issued forth were, if anything, kin to the despised speech of the elf-things. As they did not understand the alien language, nor how the arcane contraption worked the warlock engineers pulled the device apart and shot it with warplock pistols until it stopped making any sounds.”

"This is Corsair FM, bringing you the latest piracy opportunities and advice on dealing with Hrud infestations..."

I havent got my copy of 1st Ed Warhammer to hand, but isnt there some mention of special magical Slann weapons, that have immense power but somehow can hypnotise the user into getting on a boat to Lustria, and finding their way to a secret temple, where they are compelled to work on strange machinery in return for the weapons services?
