Not long to wait until the answer comes but there is a lot of talk about what this new weapon will do. Well I am going to hazard a guess that it will be a weapon with an effect that either turns an enemy to bone or prevents movement. This is based on the meaning of the word to Ossify which refers to bony tissue or to stagnate or make inflexible. Discuss.

Instant death ranged perhaps? I'm thinking some kind of ranged weapon which pins, perhaps reduces the initiative of the subjects. It must have something to do with making something "bony" its to much of a coven like idea to be a coincidence with its name

Most likely, it will be a blast template weapon of some kind. However, my first thought was that it might be like the space marine graviton gun, as being armored would become a liability when your bones start growing outward at an unnaturally rapid pace.

That would be a fun idea but seems to much copy and paste for GW in my opinion.

I think it will be place small blast if an unsaved wound caused by this weapon. Do not generate extra small blasts.

To represent bones growing in all directions and impaling all nearby unlucky fellas.

I guess its kind of:

S4 AP- 18" Instant Death
When the Ossifactor causes a casualty place the small blast marker over its victim. Every Model under the blast marker takes a hit with the S of the removed Model and AP -

I would do the following: Toughness test or death, if target dies, everyone within the radius of the number rolled for toughness test suffers 1 automatic hit with victim's STR. Some AP, but max 5.

This would be real wicked weapon if it kills the first model. Should cost some points more. Although I am afraid that it would nerf the MCs even further as it can instagib them so I dont think it will be like that. :-)

I think thats not the point. There is a big gap between useful and fun stuff and the stuff GW designs. While I could come up with way more "would be cool if / would be nice if" theories, I will stick to the "typical GW style" of weapons... no matter is it is "useful" or not.
Talk to Electrocorrosive Whip, Flesh Gauntlet and the rest of the Armory showing off their dust collection.

What were the rules for the old stinger pistol?

Poison 2+, ap-

If a model is removed from play by this weapon, center the small blast template over it. All models touched by the template suffer a strength hit at the toughness of the victim, and ap at the armor value of the victim.

So if you kill a marine,
small blast str 4 ap 3.

This would be my guess.
They used it before, why not again?

Please dont try to tell me that paying for useless choices is OK because it was always so. I dont enjoy paying for useless choices. Neither in points nor in bucks. Putting this kind of choices into the dex and sprue is sloppy work and we all are paying for that sloppy work. We are paying the writer who wrote it, we are paying the sculptor who had to sculpt something that will never see paint, we are paying the mould, the plastic, relevant part of the packing, artwork on the packing, etc...

I want a quality product for quality money - something like SM dex. OFC there are useless choices too, but really not so many.

Personally I am hoping for some sort of pinning because I miss the Horrorfex(and terrorfex)/Xenospasm Grenades and of course there is no easy way to assault anything with low toughness and weak armor short of having something pinned.

I miss all manners of horror and terror and LD shenanigans in general.

@Darklight
Because the weapon you proposed would be worse than shredder on everything but T3 AP4 dudes. :-)

Not a problem there are (or were before my break from 40k) lots of Eldar and Tau in my area before who liked those T3 4+ troops

Moving this to General as it is more a musing of a new item than discussion of the news or rumour of the Ossefactor.
