Well the good news if the rumours are true is that there is plenty of opportunity to try out different units in an attempt to undo the blandness and try to claw some fun back into the game.

The other good news is that my friendships with my frequent opponents is only going to get better as they will no longer fear or loath having to fight dark eldar.

On a serious note. I wont use Eldar in a detachment. I will continue to not. Even in competitive games. I've always thought an army should be fine by itself and allies should be a gimmick. Yes it was hard but the victories were only made sweeter. We have a great community here, and some great minds. Give it a month and people will be getting to grips with how to make the most out of a poor deal.

If these rumours are all true, and Dark Eldar are a bland Dog-crap sandwich of an army then its up to us to find thicker bread and I think we will.

+1 Grub, for finding the true positive. No matter how crappy, or good they make the codex, we still have eachother. Nobody ever played Dark Eldar to win games.

I thought about whether it could be an epic trolling conspiracy, but I feel like if that were the case, there would be a handful of genuine, non-trolling rumors also filtering out. That's not to say that I believe all the rumors, but given that they all seem to agree that we're getting nerfed, it seems likely that we're getting nerfed, and it's just a question of how much and in which ways.

I played mostly back in 3rd ed, mostly before the 3rd ed codex update. That book was awful, but you could win games with it. The problem was, there was really only one, fairly specific, spammy army you could be semi-competitive with (raider spam).

The reissue of that codex (the "oops, we messed up" edition) allowed for viable Wych cult armies, which were both fun and viable, so then we basically had two army builds to choose from. Better, but not exactly "diverse."

That's what I'm worried about. In addition to being sad about all the things both fun and useful that we're apparently losing, I'm scared that we'll be back to having only one Dark Eldar army that we'll all have to play.

Also, regarding how we're supposed to work, flavorwise, compared to our Craftworld kin, I agree that we shouldn't necessarily have Battle Focus, or other meditation/Path-oriented cookies, but we should have *something.* To quote our (for the moment current) codex: "Their athletic physiques are lined with whipcord muscle, honed and enhanced until the are superior even to those of their Craftworld Eldar cousins, for the Dark Eldar prize martial prowess most highly. They stride through the fires of battle with the surety and poise of demigods..." "...countless generations of physical conflict have ensured the Dark Eldar have better reaction speed and greater physical strength than other elements of the Eldar race..." That sounds great and all, except that in current game terms, our faster, stronger Kabalites who have devoted their lives to killing have identical stat profiles to Craftworld civilian troops, and the Guardians have Battle Focus.

Muahahahahahahaha!

There go the wanna-be archons and the true ones with royal blood remain strong!

I aurally like most of the changes. I like having the good old torment launches back. I love the unique ghost plate armour and I like the new wwp. Seriously. It is cool. and I also like the detachment, especially because of the cover bonus. Mandrakes will have a 2+ in the open XD

Sure there are some thinks I'm sad about, the husk blade ap3.. Meh, but there will be some option for the archon. And splinter racks now work for all splinter weapons? Including shard carbines? This if f-ing AWESOME!
I'm gonna pop some guard,
Only got 20 souls in my soul trap,
I, I, i'm raiding, looking for some chars,
This is f-ing awesome!

And with regards to our supreme overlord, who we all hold in our highest respect.... He will get his supplement with a rule that states, he can only be used in an army of the Kabal of the black heart as a lord of war. An that is right so. Or supreme ruler would not be hanging around with fools like you! :-P

But I am truly sorry for those, that have their army's made worse, but I do not think that anything is unplayable an I think that is a good thing. And next time, stick with some royal blood and learn from your better :-P

Sláinte!

My Dark Eldar spread their love all the time. It's just generally not consensual.

gotta... stay... positive!!

If the reavers have a further price drop, maybe they'll find their use in hitting side/rear armor with their anti-tank guns. Have there been changes to close combat drugs? There's always the slight chance that the drugs the wych units get can compensate for losing haywires and flyby attacks.

Still want to hear more about scourges, they have such fantastic models.

If there's a new synergy with CWE though that's a bonus for me. I see the Eldar race as largely cooperative when it comes to fighting aliens, and I've always loved the original Space Pirate imagery they came in with in Rogue Trader. Before Dark Eldar came out my favorite vehicle in terms of looks was the Vyper. So a troop capable vyper flanking the foe as wave serpents crash down the middle was imagery I always played in my head.

The main thing I see is 4-6 fast attack venoms can be ridden by CWE allies, who in turn can bring some wave serpents in their infantry slots.

I think that would make their arguments moot. The fact that most are based on rumor would make them invalid.

It's too bad that next week we'll actually get the codex. I'm going to miss reading this thread. My only hope is the new dex is as divisive as the rumors. I've been feeding off of everyone's hysteria and have grown quite powerful. Very Happy

Variety is the spice of life. The current incarnation of reavers was getting dull. The current codex was getting dull. I don't care where our new codex sits on the power curve. All I wanted was a new puzzle to unravel, and that looks exactly like what we are getting.

Well, if there are more Reavers on board than Orkz, they're definitely not that crap. Unfortunately, they lack the ways of surviving close combat if their HoW didn't outright kill the enemy (since they don't have grenades, we can factor those 3 S3 attacks per model out). Even with Hit'n'Run that's still 2 phases of getting your T4 5+ fnp face hit by everything your opponent has.

Dark Eldar have always been about target saturation. The new codex was never going to change that.

I've been out most of the day but having read through the thread I'm going to reinforce what Panic_Puppet said. We all want to discuss the merits, or otherwise, of the new codex and we still only have rumours to go on, many of which are contradictory or incomplete. People will have different opinions but we all need to respect their right to express those opinions. There is no need for the more personal comments that are being made by some posters. Wow, that was a lot of pages added to this thread since I last had a look. Quickly skimmed those rumoured "leaked rules" and I have to say, this sounds like trolling of the highest level, some of these rumours dont even remotely make sense. Example: "Chain Snares let our vehicles Tank Shock..."... yeah explain to me how some chains with hooks will make our vehicles ram though other Tanks...

I'd say: Calm down and wait for actual pictures of rules and THEN start worrying Wink

Food for though, I'll resign from this thread now and wait until I can hold the book in my hands.

I agree with you Dogmar.
Just reviewed all the rumours spread around the web. Some make me happy, others make me sad, but I believe what I see. Atm, I haven't seen anything. No picture, no scan, no army list, nothing.
For sure, most of them should be true, but remember 7th ed rumours ... 50% crap info.

Nobody knows exactly which costs what, nor the exact options available to all the different units. Value points are also conditionning a list. I think we'll have to adapt and survive.
The antitank issue seems still to be the same, but maybe there is a solution in the book.
Answers are in the codex. Wait until Saturday...

Tank Shock =/= Ram

Tank Shock is against Infantry, Ram against vehicles (thats what the shock prow is for). This makes perfectly sense as the Chain snares gave you the same Bladevane ability that Reavers previously had and also lost in this codex.

Quote :

And the sad thing is, the rumors that turned out crap where actually the things that would have made good rules. And than it turned out that the actual rules are crap.

The only rumors that bug me to be honest are the loss of haywires on wych's, and the loss of flickerfields on raiders. I'm loving the splinter rack rumor though.

I just hope it doesn't feel like a huge nerf like my ork book did.
