I'm going to throw the Duke in there as a model that will get taken out of our new dex, but I strongly believe he will return in the form of a supplement or dataslate and will be placed with the Crosairs in some way shape or form. Heck maybe the same can be said for Baron.... Also I highly doubt Malys will get the boot now that we have a dedicated Psyker phase, she'll probably get her own special "anti-psyker unit" so GW can put them in a box set that would look like Grey Knights VS Dark Eldar...... Just my thoughts though.

I'm scared but I'd like to think that overall they won't make Dark Eldar less competitive.

I love 8th edition, and I love Dark Eldar in 8th, but I still can't wait for fluffy Kabal rules to drop in our dex.  I have written multiple Dark Eldar fan codexes (3 and a "mini-fandex" which was totally ridiculous), the latest of which (for 7th edition) can be found here.  I also created a Blood Angels 7th edition fan codex, and I have used the Age of Sigmar Kharadron Overlords battletome to create a 40k Squats codex complete with a bunch of Stratagems.

I hope at least codex itself will not be a rushed job. Later codexes seems to take away more then they add.

I don't mind the Baron going if we can at least get the option to build our own version of him using an Archon or Succubus on a jetbike or skyboard. Okay, he may not have all the special rules but he can still have a PGL and join a unit of beasts. The trend in recent codexes has been to add in some relics or other items that allow at least a partial recreation of missing characters.

That makes me feel better. Well, let's see how it goes thanks!

http

take a look at this link.  don't bother with the article.  Read the comments of ROBOMUMMY.  He might just be talking out his pie-hole, but his information seems way to precise, especialy how he uses his wording.

Oh heck here are all his posts. read from bottom to top. Please nuke this if it breaks any rules

"No mini codex for them planned yet, they will be getting their own formation but will still be part of the elder and dark elder codex.

Robomummy • 14 hours ago
Harlequins will be in the new book as a continuation of the whole "neutral" factor that they have among the eldar race. Both the new Eldar Dex and the new Dark Eldar dex will have the same datasheet for harlequins.

Robomummy • 14 hours ago
There is a large model in the works, along the lines of a grotesque/ haemonculi creation. That's all they told me so You may be right.
As I have said the Voidraven will be happening as a dual kit. It is by no means "ready to go" and still in design phase. They will be keeping the unit though in the new book.

Robomummy • 15 hours ago
There will be clam pack release but it is not far enough along for me to know what will be in it.
as for wracks and grotesques From what I am told only wracks will be getting any plastic treatment from GW.
Eventually everything will go to plastic but that wont be for some time. GW is currently releasing all the updated books before they begin to redo large parts of the model range. Sometime at the end of next year is the projected date (looking at 2 years of codecies and 2-3 years of supplements and minor releases before a new edition) This is the tentative plan but it is still far too early to confirm this.
What I have posted in this comment section is for the most part confirmed so far from the person I get my info from. If I get any new info I will post it.

Robomummy • 18 hours ago
It actually isn't all that different and looks similar to the picture in the codex right now. Since there is no model or anything set in stone about it it is entirely possible that they can do this. Again Im just passing on info I was given.

Robomummy • 21 hours ago
Vr upgrade is the rerelease of the current flier to my knowledge. As for the rest this will not all be released during the new book. Some of it will be released after codexes are all updated.

Robomummy • a day ago
Don't know why, just passing along info. I believe it is due to the shift away from fine cast.

Robomummy • a day ago
There will be plastic incubi but in my opinion they look very static as opposed to the finecast version

Robomummy • a day ago
Not if nobody is buying it

Robomummy • a day ago
Since I haven't heard anything specific about them I think they stay the same, sad Really they have amazing models.

Robomummy • a day ago
Haemonculus will definitely be getting some love. Not sure if a formation will be in the new book or a supplement. Look for a kabal formation, cult formation, and coven formation (not all will be with the codex+supplement release and you may have to wait).

Robomummy • a day ago
they can but they aren't going to. at least not in 7th edition rules.

Robomummy • 2 days ago
Possible, I haven't heard anything about it but I'll ask. Right now there is only so much Im allowed to reveal.

Robomummy • 2 days ago
No harlequin supplement in the near future but it is a possibility. What GW is doing now is getting all the codexes updated before they begin working on the supplements (not counting the ones released with the codex). Supplements will not be like the old ones but rather will have new data sheets for formations. Not saying anything definite for harlequins but you may be pleasantly surprised later on this edition. Also GW isn't really downsizing 40k they are just bringing everything into line before we start to see allot of new stuff (it is coming though so don't worry).

Robomummy • 2 days ago
No unit called castigators in the new book. Mandrakes will stay relatively the same as will harlequins. Kerdrukah will not be in the new book however he will still exist in the lore. This is what I know so far, it is subject to change as the book release is still some ways off but a change is unlikely since the book itself is nearly finished.

Robomummy • 2 days ago
If I recall correctly there wasnt really a new unit in the book.

Robomummy • 2 days ago
I know but since it wasn't specifically mentioned I didn't include him as a phoenix lord (not too clear on elder fluff if there are any other fallen phoenix lords). I didn't see where he said drahzar in the article.

Robomummy • 2 days ago
It has not been confirmed that Drazhar is Arha, it is heavily hinted at that he is but I didn't count his as a fallen phoenix lord since they never specifically said he was. He will be in the new book, similar to how Snikrot is in the ork book.

Robomummy • 2 days ago
Baron will most likely not be in the new book, however if he is not there will be an upgraded skyboard for an archon (haven't heard the final decision on this yet, last I checked they were still considering it).

Robomummy • 2 days ago
Couple points about Dark Eldar,
1) Dark eldar will most likely not be the next book but will appear before the holidays.
2) Vect will be released with the Dias of Destruction like he used to have. GW wants to keep Vect similar to how he is already and don't feel the need to change up what he rides in. Expect the dias of destruction to be an ornate/modified ravager with some better rules. The model for vect will be made so that it can be assembled on the dias or on foot.
3) sorry, no fallen phoenix lords. One or two new special characters but not a lot of new stuff (think ork release) since the models are already some of the best they sell.
4) Some characters gone but look for relic weaponry and equipment to remake them from the base archon (not as good as the actual characters though). Not all characters will be gone though.
5) A new fairly large haemonculus creation in line of a grotesque.
4) no change to beast packs as of yet.
5) revamped power from pain but not a huge shakeup to how it works.
6) yes, we will see Plastic incubi but depending if you like their look the finecast versions might look better and less rigid. we will also see plastic wracks (not grotesques). Also new voidraven bomber kit/upgrade kit (not sure about this yet)."

Meh, we get it when we get it. The longer we wait, the more money I have to put aside. There's 6 softcover books out there (Dark Eldar, Necrons, Blood Angels, Bretonnia, Beastmen, Skaven) and I play three of those, so it's 50/50 that I'll be buying something at the next release (closer to 65-35, as I doubt it'll be another WFB on the tail of Nagash)

I'm was more sick about hearing that FB could be closed, but after I noticed same rumors about closing Wood elves, Tomb Kings and Beastmen, I started to ignore them.
I reaaally wait for new codex, so I can finally collect my army and know what I really need to play)

Aaaand another one. Again not much detail from an unknown source, and very little we haven't heard before or couldn't think of ourselves. http://natfka.blogspot.nl/2014/08/dark-eldar-early-insights.html

Dark Eldar are rumored to be coming very soon. Of course this site becoming dedicated rumors started with Dark Eldar, and with that I am already digging for any early signs of where this codex might be leading.

My Dark Eldar are hungry........

These of course are rumors and should be given with a good grain of salt, especially since their origin is from an earlier draft of the codex.

via an anonymous source on Faeit 212
He gave me some insight into what he had seen in early drafts of the book from the design team. I would consider these 1-2 star rumors, more of logical speculation on his end based on what he had seen:

- Eldar special rules were being thrown around as an idea, Ancient Doom and a form of Battle Focus that let warriors run/shoot in the same phase and Wyches run/assault in the same turn.

- Points decreases for the elites and troops sections, by about 1-2 ppm, but increases to raiders, ravagers, and venoms by about 5 points. The net result was units in transports costing about the same.

- Obviously the model-less characters were taken out - Vect is a lord of war, but baron, duke, malys, and the decapitator are gone.

- No new unit entries that he had seen, but repackaged models. I asked him about plastic incubi, mandrakes, grotesques and wracks, clampacks or the voidraven, and he said he honestly hadn't seen anything concrete on them, so couldn't say one way or the other but wouldn't be surprised since finecast had been removed from most new books that still had any.

- No info on warlord traits unfortunately, but said that the drug chart was being refined to mesh with 7th ed special rules (specifically, the drug that gives 3d6 run pick the highest is removed, since that is essentially fleet, which many units have already).

- Confirmed that, as we all knew, the wargear section for haemies was being shortened, possibly turned into relics. Hallmarks like venom blades, huskblades, soul traps, shadow fields, agonisers should still be there in the generic wargear section. In his words, "shocked if they took those out".

Overall, more of a streamlining similar to the GK dex, but without removing much other than the named characters. Should still play the same, but have more continuity with the current rules, and with the warlord traits and new FOC (didn't elaborate on what it might look like) will have much more added than lost, unlike GK.

Said he wouldn't be shocked if we also get plastic kits for some of the finecast options, to make the release similar to Orks. Certainly didn't feel like a nerf in his opinion, but did go a long way to limit the viability of things like jetseer lists that relied on the 2++ of the baron.

DOOM & GLOOM, its almost like we live in The Dark City. Who knows, maybe GW will surprise the heck out if us and have models for Duke, Mayls and Baron. I wonder though if we'll get a nifty supplement on or shorty after the release of our new codex.

This would make me SO happy Very Happy

Random Power From Pain would be a pain though Sad But we will see that special rule changed for sure.

Over all GW is really pissing me off, the place needs a serious overhaul....seems to have been going down hill for years. This mess with simply deleting characters because they have no models , no new models or are too damn lazy to make them is stupid....make or leave rules and let the players make convert or   sub minis for them. They must not any revenue so they dont make them.
Someone at GW once said they are not a game company, they are a model, hobby company  but right now they  are failing in both in my book for the most part.

Well I guess we will see what kind of teeth gnashing, grinding, fist pounding , agoniser waving level is required once it comes out.

I started playing back when you needed permission to use special characters, and haven't made use of them when I started playing again. I think we will lose a lot of them though which is a little lame for those of you who use them. On the positive for me it might open some interesting thing as relics though making my archon more powerful, so I'm happy to risk your loss for my gain lol.

I'm actually nervous about what we'll lose out of armory for archons and heamonculi. We have a lot of options and I'm sure they'll get pruned. Other worries are unnecessary changes to power from pain, like making it random.

Overall I suspect we will see a lot of points adjustments which could really help units like scourge, but I don't have my hopes up for anything to new or shiny. I'm expecting the status quo to be maintained and I'm actually pretty ok with that. I like our current book a lot though.

lol my drahzar never saw the light of day against a friend of mine.

We'll get some rules from C:Eldar, I be we'll have little changes, like having two blasters in a squad of 10 warriors, wyches might have them again.... and maybe have WYCH WEAPONS, Combat drugs and power from pain will probably change and we'll have some relics.

Well, well, well, here are some more rumours, we'll know in less then three weeks, if they are true or not.

First, release order.
- 3 Weeks Nagash
- 1 Week Dark Eldar Box(es)
- 1 Week Dark Eldar Codex
- 1 Week Dark Eldar Box(es)
- Then back to then endtimes in fantasy

There will be 4! Boxes coming out, i think 2 for each week, and 2 of those 4 boxes will be new units.
On the cover, there is an archon without the huskblade + soul trap combo.

So i would say, 2 new units sounds pretty sweet, if it's true ;-)

I guess what is irking me about the real possibility of  losing  special characters is that while I have never used Lillith, Malys or other special characters, I would have like trying 1 or 2 out just to see how I did with them like say against my friend that has like 100 + gaunts and genestealers(Lillith) or try Lady Malys against someone who has a bunch of big blast plate units- pulling d3 back into reserve or redeploy would be cool to try.
Lady Malys I REALLY wanted to try against a couple of our Eldar players who CONSTANTLY WAR,Focus<god knows what else my units and according to the rules I MAY be able to nullify them if I use Malys right(?)..I may be wrong but ..
I do not run armies with a bunch of crazy rules ,psychic stuff etc, just try to use a well rounded list and have fun.

I want to see the following and they are not uber changes-
Wych CCW to be Poisoned 4+ or make option for Lhamaean addition-see below.
Scourges to get a little points break ,otherwise they are fine
Warriors to be able to have plasma grenades AT LEAST, maybe an extra special weapon like a blaster for every 10 since right now if you have 20 warriors, you can have 2 DL or SC BUT only 1 Blaster or shredder in 10 to 20 warriors....
Options to build up a Court made of whatever characters in whatever qty, not the required mix/mess that it is now. you want all Sslyth-cool,want all Lhamaeans, want Medusae template of death squad-cool
Option to add Lhamaean (limit 1/2 per army) to Wych squad to make poison 2+ weapons CCW and for Splinter Pistols- would make them more survivable and more effective. Do not bother changing the stats otherwise.
Compared to other HWB equivalent weapons, HW blaster may need a tweak.
make HWB an option for warriors and Trueborn..
-I think for the points, most of the special weapons in the Arcane section that are 'one shot wonders' need to be changed from this to being able to be used 1x per turn but keep the * ones still limited to 1 per army....
Make it possible for units coming in through the web portal able to assault when they come in-hey it is how they/we are! If not then make it so their save goes to a 4+cover or 3+ cover for THAT turn- basically fluff would be the blinding shimmering portal makes it hard to discern and hit units exiting it....Coming in and then having to sit there and get shot to death blows...we all know that

-OH last big item-SHADOWFIELD- while I like it and basically have to take it for my Archon BUT the fact that IF IT EVER FAILS it is GONE is BS...specially for 30 points- this is the only army where I think an invul is destroyed... it should not be destroyed,it may fail and Archon takes a wound but it should still work OR ALLOW the Archon to also take the Clone Field as a backup and make appropriate points changes. Being stuck with either Ghost armor or your basic 5+save after the ShadowField fails is horrendous for an HQ. I think the basic save for an Archon should be moved to a 3-4+ BASE in this case.. These are the kinds of things that need to be addressed BUT I guess GW does not want any other competitive armies except Space Babies and maybe their arch rivals Orks- more so than CSM......

Flame Suit put on--template away Twisted Evil

Oh and to Trystis- I like the look of the army and most of the stuff, there just needs to be adjustments to points stats and weapon profiles like all of us have mentioned already. With regards to 'making your Archon better' at the expense of my loss in characters... MY Archon ALREADY costs me 160points BEFORE I now try to add a WEB portal for 35points.... for 195 total... soo exactly HOW many points do you see putting to your Archon?

As an example of what is going on with other armies-

My friend just bought a whole new Adept Mech army with all the crazy robot looking things. They are all like multi wounds S5-10, T5-8 Big plate weapons, barrage AND here is a kicker- have a troop unit which basically has to be within 12"(?) of a larger unit(think Synapse) or they go 'stupid'... BUT they are-I think- S3 or 4,T3 or 4, WS3/4,BS 3/4 AND have a S5 Ap4/5 weapon with at least a 24" range.....................and he says they are like.... 4  to 6 POINTS EACH!??!!? I mean WTF come on..

IG- do not all the crazy stuff but was taken off guard by 'The Master Of Ord' -basically call down a 5"plate orbital bombardment once per turn every turn---REEEAAAALLLY? Placed this guy in a bui;lding with 'camo netting' basically giving this guy placed in a building way in the corner a 3+ cover save(may as well be INVUL...

I am really hoping they make or have a way to make Hellions Troop choices in the new Codex or I'm just going to keep playing with the old Codex instead of wasting money. That unit is the only thing I care about in the New Codex since its about 50% of my army that I would run. Otherwise I'm not to concerned with the rumors we are hearing.

I am hoping for a real solid Wych Cult army.

Like competiteve Wyches, succubi, brides, bikes, beastpacks. If something can be cannon in a glass army it should be them.

Im still remembering times when army list advice was like "Your army list is fine and in the case you dont hope to win Wych Cult in assault your combat units are also fine".
