If GW is phasing out finecast/resin/whatever they are calling it today then:

- Wracks going to plastic - absolutely.  The current wracks look fantastic but the resin is extremely fragile.  I bought a unit of 5 and have to fix one every single time I pull them out of my bag.      So I haven't bought any more.  I'd happily replace them with plastics.

- Grots going to plastic - would make absolute sense to sell these 3 to a box like the Ogryns.  If they are priced similar to the ogryn box then I'll pick up 3 sets.  As it stands I have no intention of spending $225 for 9 of them.

- "Bane" unit - The only non-FA choice that are forced to walk across the board are the talos/cronos.  Everything else has a 12" move or can ride.  So, to me, I could see them replacing the Clawed Fiends (due to being finecast) with a completely different sculpt.  I can't see them adding another slow unit to a force whose primary strength is speed.

====
BTW, for those wanting to know what a castigator is - essentially wraith guard that Vect has captured. The constructs believe they are still fighting for their craftworld even though they answer only to vect.

With GW's desire to put a big thing in every army I can somewhat see it. In the long run my guess is our flyers will end up in the FA slot. But more to the point I see this as a wraithlord-wraithknight / grotesque-bane thing.

And I'm with you sky serpent covens were my least favorite part of dark eldar until recently, now I embrace the entire community of kabals, cults, and covens. And admittedly one of the reasons I haven't bought wracks is the finecast. In fact I only have my grotesques currently because I found a set for cheap on ebay (stroke of luck that was!)

As you can probably tell from my sig, I'm not a fan of Failcast but I have to admit, Wracks are probably the only Failcast models I've not had any issues with. Maybe I was just lucky.

Ugh.

I'll be honest, I'm not at all interested in this "Bane" thing.
To me, Haemonculi Covens have always been a very, very secondary thing. A small addition to the army for a slight kick, but I've never really looked at them as a core or vital thing. They're a "maybe" to me, and not really worthy enough to be the central focus. I like using them no doubt, and they're really useful, but as additionals, bot as the main focus.
The idea of throwi9ng another large creature that's simply a larger Grotesque really doesn't appeal to me in any way. It almost seems lazy in a way. It's like someone desperately needed ti think of SOMETHING, and just said "Oh, make the Grotesque or Talos look bigger". There are plenty of other things they could have done, Castigators being one, classic pre-Wraith Eldar Robots being another. IF the bane turns out to be what everyone assumes it is (if its real at all) it'll - to me - just seem a waste.

Now, Wracks with guns on the other hand. Brilliant. Great and very obvious idea.

I thought so, too. But you can create a coven army, if you want. Not sure, if they are worth a hole army,
but even when not, they are an asset to wyches and warriors.

I have 10 Grotesques (4 actual Grot models and 6 converted from Ogre Kingdom models with Talos/Cronos masks), 3 Talos/Cronos models magnetized for both, 3 Haemonculi, Urien and about 40 wracks. I'm ready for it

Covens aren't my favorite thing, but considering the Dark City couldn't operate without them I wouldn't really call them secondary. On the one hand I get what you're saying, most coven units don't have that sleek appearance the rest of the army does. A castigator might fulfill that role, but I have two problems with that 1) They would look too much like wraith(noun) making our army look like the lame eldar and 2) fluff-wise they belong to vect so how would so many archons start fielding them.

Covens are what really set the Dark Eldar apart from regular eldar. Yeah, yeah, we wear tight leather and spikes, but it's not until you see grotesques, taloi, and cronos that have been built from scratch from the body parts of whatever race was unlucky enough to get captured, dragging and screaming back to Commorragh, that you realize these Eldar are truly monsters.

I just wished plastic Wracks came in a box of 10 - I've been saying this since launch and if they came out with 10 plastic wracks like Kabalites / Wyches I probably would have gotten at least 3-6 boxes of them

I love the story/concept/rules of Wracks

That shouldn't be a problem. In the WHFB Dark Elves the Black Guard of Naggarond are supposed to be, well, from Naggarond, but they still turn up everywhere and no one thinks it's weird.

Monsters? If an eternal life of hedonism and cruel excess fueled by inflicting excruciating agony and suffering upon others and enslaving their tormented souls makes you a monster then fine, we are 'monsters'. Since when are you so judgemental?

I personally hope this ends up being a WD update sooner rather than later, I don't want to wait a year for this stuff to show up, I need plastic Wracks. Our codex is well off enough as it is and can last a while longer (well that depends on what changes with the new ed, in a way)

But still, knowing that BA will likely get an update first is irritating...I can't stand them.

How great would it be if we were offered a Coven dataslate formation similar to the tau fire support cadre. That would make sense due to the coven's tight-knit fluff and the "hiring" of them for certain things. Like 3 Haemons with wracks blah blah blah. So you could have the Main army, the coven formation and an ally if you want.

With all this talk of new Coven units and such I dont know why anyone else doesn't think it might be a Dark Eldar Coven supplment codex - thats what I thought of anyways.

I strongly doubt it that they'll make a supplement for codex two editions old. We can get some WD rules with new boxes before the main 7ed Codex though.

Well, and i wanted some real ugly-big-troublesome-fearsome beast for my beastmasters. But - will see what is coming.

Probably will build some small Coven army (i like ''Hex'' coven)  Rolling Eyes

Mobile torture chamber? Sounds nice. Gimme painmarkers. But that sounds like an oversized chronos.

As long as the new models doesn't differ to much from the originals. I really like the concept of the wracks. Grotesques are homemade from the Vargheist kit. I don't think it would make sense to change the.mandrake models. They are a thing of beauty. Just a rule overhaul plz!!
I always imagined their huge unit to be some kind of super talos. A masive pain engine fuelled by the suffering of its victims covered in viscious weapons

I agree, the current coven stuff has a distinct look it must maintain. So they don't look out of place near a Talos/Cronos. I'd like to see plastic Mandrakes though, right now the finecast kit comes with 2 duplicate sculpts and finecast kinda sucks to begin with.

I'd like them to make the Mandrakes more shadowy and faceless and hunched, ....just like this art below:

Sounds interesting, I might consider wracks in my army if they look like the nice resin ones.
