Because we SW players have a long history of having our own book full of our own particular flavour of cool and being willing to give GW large amounts of money for it. Ditto DA and BA. It's a lucrative tradition and it would make little sense for GW to alienate large sections of their fanbase and give them less opportunities to give them money.

I can understand the frustration of non-big three players, waiting for their codex while what appears to be just another flavour of SM rolls by, but there are just as many players out there who have invested in SW/BA/DA in their own right waiting eagerly for their codex as there are for most other armies.

Yeah, but here is the thing. They have supplements now. These supplements are full of Fluff, a few pages of rules that make the supplement unique from the host codex, and makes sense to lump Space Marines into this format (at least to me).

But it's just my opinion after all.

Don't say that to a Space Marine player who plays one of those factions. They get all butt hurt. I thought the same thing, but I was promptly proven wrong. Drinking blood, one unique elite choice, and slapping fast on all your vehicles requires a totally separate codex.

Blood Angel player here, but no Butthurt :p. I remember back when the BA/DA/SW used to all have their own supplemental codices to the marine dex. I -also- remember the official line from GW at the time being that they were getting rid of this system because it was a hassle for players to have to use two books to play an army. Frankly, supplements would work fine - e.g. give Blood Angels the option for their unique units in the respective slots (Furioso replaces Ironclad, Add Sanguinary Guard/Priests to Elites, add Baal Predator to Fast Attack, add Death company, add overcharged engines), and say "Blood Angels armies my not take the following units" with a list of things the BA don't get access to so as to prevent them from essentially being "Marines +1"

It just is what it is. I wouldn't be averse to seeing BA returning to a companion codex, but they've been fleshed out so much that it's less practical. DA were a prime candidate with just the Deathwing and Ravenwing being 'unique', but then they got Deathwing Knights and a crapton of Ravenwing units. Off the top of my head, BA have Death Company, DC dreads, Sanguinary Priests, Furiosos, Sanguinary Guard, Baal predator, Dante, Mephiston, Tycho, Astorath, Sanguinor, Corbulo - a mighty 12 unique units, plus variant costings to account for fast vehicles. More if you take into account the shift of regular dreadnoughts to heavy rather than fast, and different rules on Vanguard veterans... with all the bonus fluff and nonsense, that's too many to fit into a supplement.

Can we get back on track with conversation please? If you'dlke to start a discussion for why there are so many different Space Marine armies then please start a new topic elsewhere. Cheers - Cavash.

Back on topic: The only thing I hope with the new Dark Eldar codex is they don't cut characters because of lack of models or worse make them into Data Slates. That would piss me off, something fierce. Because we are missing some key character models.

Lady Malys, The Duke, Baron, Vect, Decapitor (don't care if he goes): But the other 4 I would mind.

I'm more worried about them cutting the voidraven I just finished converting.

I wouldn't worry so much about character's because it's easy enough to convert them from GW miniatures, and removing Vect would be heinous. Who knows? maybe they'll release a vect model and an actual dais.

I strongly suspect the void raven will appear. I'd be willing to bet good money that the artwork is done, the sculpts are done/in progress, and they're planning to launch it in tandem with the next codex. Vect, Rakarth, Drazhar and Lelith are key parts of DE background, we'll definitely keep them and Vect will almost certainly get a model.

I have a sweet baron conversion that I love, at the end of the day it can just be used as a fancy helliarch. I don't think we'd lose much with Malys, Sliscus and Kheradruakh going the way of the dodo, the latter I can see being relegated to upgrade characters.

I really think Malys and Sliscus add flavor.

I believe Sliscus should make Corsairs a choice. How cool would that be? If that is the case, he can be a data slate.

Malys fluff is very interesting. If only they made this game a little bit more living and character evolving. But I hope Malys develops further. So my hopes with the new codex is development of this characters.

I still say Kheraduaakgha;fgh (can't bring myself to spell check this horrible character) can be taken out completely.

In fantasy we've had special characters that replace a sergeant on several occassions and even the Space Marines in 40k do it. If Kheradruakh stays in I suppose he'll be a mandrake upgrade, it would make sense since he's a cool part of the fluff that is horribly underrepresented as of now. If only GW always did things that make sense Wink

I'd be tempted to agree with that release schedule - skulznbones, can you tell us where you found the original rumour so that we can acknowledge the source or is it someone who has told you personally?

It was put in a private group by a major tournament organizer. I am not familiar with him putting out rumors before, so that is what caught my attention. As I said, take some salt as I have ZERO proof personally, I just repeated what I was told, and seemed odd due to the source.
In this case, "odd" means more believable rather than "weird"

On another note, everyone seems mighty happy to see the decapitator leaving, but the real reason for that is he sucks. he sucks BAD!
If his stats were:

Decapitator, s-4, t-4, i-8, a-4, sv 5+etc...
Eternal Warrior
Fearless
Power from pain
Infiltrate
Baleblast
Demonspawn- All mandrakes including the decapitator start the game with a pain token
Decapitator- all rolls to wound of 4+ are AP2, rolls of a 6 are AP 1, armorbane and cause instant death.
Multiarmed- Decapitator can take 2 extra hand weapons, granting +2 attacks (6 total)
Shadow being: All mandrakes including the decapitator are partially made of shadow. they never are slowed by terrain and automatically pass all dangerous terrain tests. Additionaly, they always strike at initiative.
Leader of shadows- all mandrakes in an army where the decapitator is the warlord are scoring and count as troops

I would field this guy!

Pretty much, they can make ANY model a good one if they write it that way.

Yeah I'm not really sure about the hate for the Decapitator. He has interesting fluff. In my opinion more interesting than Malys. Malys just seems like your typical Archon, just better than most, and inferior to vect.

The decapitator goes around beheading people, and keeping their skulls in his basement. I always picture Kheradruakh jumping into a pile of skulls like Scrooge McDuck from ducktales. Woo-ooh!

I think the fluff of Malys is more profound. I see Malys taking over The Dark City from Vect (*gasp*). My opinion is the crystal heart is Cegorach, or his will. I believe Malys is biding her time to usurp the usurper of The Dark City. Now of course that is my opinion.

I find the Decapitator to be quite bland. Oh he collects skulls? A guy made virus that can turn people into purple crystal and made art out of them. Nothing new Smile

Just my opinion.

I would gladly accept a new DE dex if it came with a voidraven kit release.

If they would remove Sliscuss from codex, only viable opiton is to put him in the supplement with his own forces.

I agree. But a new codex should also provide us with more anti-grav vehicles. Look at the Eldar.
2 fighters, 4 tanks. Space Marines: 2 fighters, even more tanks. Dark Eldar: 2 fighters, 3 vehicles.

Well, we all will see, what is about to come...

Honestly I'm stoked to get an updated codex. As previously mentioned, it'd be great if they kept our internal balance, and I agree in avoiding a banana-hax-awesome codex. Just something with a few licks of change, a couple new models/vehicles, updated model range for our HQs, maybe some poses for grotesques.
But we definitely do need some updates, a little push to make us a more competitive army (mandrakes, wyches, and some general army-wide buff would be great like battle focus), and personally I'd love a custom Warlord Trait table! Unless you're a tactical genius, playing against the new codices is an uphill battle for many of us. And as much as I love my DE, it kinda bums me out that my Tau buddy doesn't bring his competitive lists to play against me so he doesn't crush me time after time.

^^ Agreed with Laughingcarp. I think if they let the wyches have that 4+ invul. all the time it would drastically help them.

4+ invuln at 10 points a model would be op. Now a 4+ cover out in the open or something would be nice to have. I liked Barking Agatha's suggestion of a leap skill that gives them dodge out in the open. 4+ cover save also allows our poor girls to suffer from template weapons. Because you are not dodging that.

So 4+ cover in the open and a 4+ invl in combat? I'd board that train.

Or something like inv in open but only if enemy shoots at you from less than 18 inches.

Even just a 5+ invuln out in the open would do wonders for their survivability.

I'd rather have Wyches as they are, but cheaper. 7pts+hwg would be nice. (Altough hwg price would then go up to 5pts perhaps Very Happy)

But it's not going to happen. If there is something good going to be in the new book, it's something most of us don't have so that we need to buy it.
