PostSubject: Kabal of the Drowned Host   Thu Mar 27 2014, 22:59

This will be a very long thread as I am very slow to do everything.

and I'm so very rusty at painting so you will all most likely also see my style improving as this project moves along.

But first! My plans, ideas and musings:

The Kabal is from a satellite realm that is equal parts Eldar Ruin and swamp, this will not be reflected in their bases though (what Kabal fights most of their battles in their own home? Terrible Kabals, that's who!) It will instead reflect in their color scheme.

I am thinking Teal to white, coppery metals and, here's the kicker, using brass etch vines and branches with leaves to texture the larger flat areas of certainly pieces (like Raiders/ravagers/reavers/etc) I am however unsure with this brass etch should remain on the model, or simply be placed there while painting and then removed... OR if it should stay, and in that case whether I should paint it naturally (brown/green) or simply keep it teal/blue/white.

Ideas? Thoughts? Suggestions?

OH! As for the Bases, I am thinking imperial (PDF/guard) defenses that are being over run, city ruins/streets with sandbags and barbed wire, discarded weapons and dead/dying imperials on the larger bases. Good?

Well, here comes the first few miniatures of my Kabal.

First there is my test Wych, I'm going for a dark purple skinned drow'ish skintone to contrast the more bright teal/blue armor, as well as red/yellow weapon glow and dark brown leather.

My Kabalite is better for showing off the glow effect of the weapons, as well as the newly acquired flayed skin of some poor guardsman.

The models have been sprayed white, and then I've added Hawk Turquoise to my wet palette, where I made sure to keep it the same viscosity as a wash and applied to all armor, same with the leather and skin, then a proper wash to remove any white spots.

And yes, the Kabalite weapon was supposed to be turquoise as well, I forgot. Razz

Looks good, interesting idea, only thing I have to say is on the Wych the hair really blends with the armor, that for me I don't like, maybe a white similar to drow. Like the contrast between the teal and the red contrast.

Yeah, I'm a bit ambivalent on the hair, I like the idea of having many different hair colors, to give the models a bit of individuality.

I might however go for very different colors instead of washed colors, like... bright purple or orange, etc.

Could add for an interesting clash, and orange might work well.

The wych hair does kinda blend in, it might be interesting to take a look at some other colors to see if you can find something that you like that stand out a little better. The scheme as a hole is great. The blue and orange look great together.

I repainted the wych with firey red/orange hair, it suited the model much better.

But I want to give them as many diverse hair colors as possible, I just gotta make them very strong to stand out against the armor.
