 FAQ the shredder

you guys think its possible to send enough emails to GW regarding the shredder so they FAQ it to something usable ?

for example increased range, monofilament, or some special rule to make it stand out ... i really want to include it, since we really only have two usable weapons: S8 ap2 'or' Sx ap5. just to have a little versatility i think its a good idea

It does get a bit tedious having predominately the same 2 shooting weapons but versitlity isn't our strong point and usually decisions come down to cost and/or what are the shooting platforms available and what slot do they take up

Just a theory... but I always thought the shredder was originally intended as a flamer of some sort. I don't know what it is with the Eldar/Dark Eldar... but it is damn hard to get a standard flamer (not d-scythe) into the army... only Wraithlords and Storm Guardians. Why regular Guardians and Warriors can't take them I'll never fathom.

It could use a buff, but I think the shredder is fine the way it is. For the point cost it's damn good anti-infantry. It's just on the wrong units. If wyches or wracks could carry them, or if reaver jetbikes could take them they'd be a hell of a lot better. I have one in my splinterborn unit, generally because the splinter rifle is never in range either, it does help with assaulting units and deepstriking units though.

Anywho, major problem with the shredder isn't what it does, it's that the only units that can carry it, you don't want in charge range of the enemy.

I would support "increased range, monofilament" thing, or some decent flamer, dont get me wrong I like liquifire gun but I want reliable Str on that thing....or poison flamer.

A totally agree with you. It is fine weapon on its own, and if wyches, wrack or even incubi could use it, it would see more use.

thats actually better imo, putting the shredder in cc units. That would mean new models/conversions for wysiwyg tho.

should we mail gw to try to get some faq-ing or just wait for the 7th ed dex ?  pirat

5man kabalites warriors who can take 5pt S6 Flamer doesnt sound exactly balanced.

For me the problem with the Shredder is the fact that it has such a short range, which makes it likely to scatter on your own units, especially with my dice rolls -.-'

Remember 3rd ed, when Wyches could take shredders? I still have some of those models and they break my heart. I'm putting the guns on some kabalites, might be sound against Nids or something like that.

As soon as I do that though, 6th will let Wyches have shredders again, I bet.

I agree with OP but it is rather nice being able to throw any size list together in under 5 minutes lol, while other armies spend much, much longer trying to figure out what to bring.
