This was my recollection(though I wasn't playing much Eldar in 98'). Though Eldar may have made the Ward save, it appears that my High Elves army has not Crying or Very sad

If half of these rumors are true I will be a very broke panda. Twisted Evil

I just checked, page 5 of the 3rd edition eldar codex, brightlances are listed as S8. Witch weapons aren't in the book but singer spears are and they were basically throwable witchblades and are not listed as power weapons. Witchblade rules were in the core rule book in 4th and they were not power weapons, and I'm pretty sure in 3rd ed core rule book they weren't listed as power weapons either (though I don't have my 3rd ed rule book to hand).

ok, i'll double check my rule book and codex when i dig them out in a couple of days, they were packed away due to me having to move house. like i said it may be that my codex had a typo in it, as my current 4th edition has one as well. and i know i read somewhere that witch blades were considered power weapons. when i find it i'll let you know where it was.

I hope Kelly doing Eldar wont mean someone else does orks. I really liked the orks codex.

That's what I thought, thanks for the confirmation.

The only weapon changes of note I can think of between 3rd and 4th ed Eldar were:

-Star cannons going from heavy 3 to heavy 2.
-Pulse laser heavy D3 to heavy 2.
-Scatter laser heavy D6 to heavy 4.
-Avenger catapults 12" range to 18" range.
-Fusion Gun going from S6 to S8.

On another note, am I the only one bitter about the tau fusion blaster getting 18" range and being better than a heat-lance in every regard?

Well, it's not a lance and it costs more, I suppose.

S8 no lance is better than S6 lance against all targets. They perform identically against AV12 and above targets, but the fusion blaster performs better against AV10-11 (and a lot better at ranges outside melta range). The heatlances replace the splinter rifle on reavers, carbines on scourge, and splinter cannon on talos. On the other hand the fusion blaster doesn't replace any weapons on crisis and when it does it's priced significantly cheaper. Not to mention the fusion blaster is better against non vehicle targets with S8 being able to ignore FNP on T4 models and cause instant death. Effectively making the fusion blaster cheaper and better in all regards to the heatlance.

Glad I'm using blasters. Smile

Sorry Mush, i stand corrected. dug out my old stuff, and read through it, and you were right. thing is i know i read somewhere that witchblades were power weapons at one time, i thought it was in the codices i had but obviously not, so i have no idea now where i read this. as for the Brightlance, just think all these years i been playing it as str 9, and not once was i ever corrected on it by an opponent.

as for the tau can't answer that one, i don't play them, i can say they are a pain in the arse to run against though.

I noticed nobody properly answered you. Don't know if you still want an answer.

He has the unfortunate tendency to write overpowered codici in most people's humble opinion. And well... That's not cool. Ofcourse not everybody feels the same way, as is always the case with these sort of things. But to give an example, he wrote the latest Necron codex... Need we say more.

He butchers fluff too. Every character becomes Mary Sue turned up to 11. Draigo anybody?

To quote Phill and Jez from the round table on Dark Eldar when talking about special character design:

Quote :
Instead of just saying "Well he's the best one" (when talking about vect)...

We wanted to keep him, but we wanted to make him more than just "O he's a haemonculus and he's the hardest haemonculus" (when talking about Urien)

In contrast wards special characters are always, "well he's the best one", he fights greater daemons in his spare time because he's so cool, and that's why he beats everyone else! So there! *goes away to play with his Draigo model*

Lol. Yeah, that too... His fluff is abysmal at best, most of the times.

His fluff does read like a 12 year old making up a story about his latest favourite superhero. Rules wise I think he's generally okay but his units and models tend to be significantly cheaper than they should be. A Grey Knight with a (being generous) 15 point force weapon and 3 point Storm Bolter should not cost 20 points!! Coteaz is not 100 points worth of model/rules. Let's face it, even if he was twice that price pretty much every GK army would still take him! Compare Draigo to Dante and tell me that he's only 50 points better. Tell me that Mindshackle Scarabs are only worth 15 points or that a Night Scythe is worth half a Stormraven.

Priced correctly, a Ward codex would be pretty nice if you ignore his fluff.

LOL. So, in a nutshell, if you changed everything about his work it would be allright.
I get the picture. I knew he had made the marine codex and yes, it felt excessive, but I figured what the heck, thats just marines for you.

The complete lack of any news, rumours or even hints on the next release, whatever it turns out to be, is amazing. Especially considering how close we are getting to the WD release and pre-order dates. GW seems to have really turned down the screws on this one.

The following is not exactly news or rumour but was posted over on Dakka earlier today, and seems plausible given what happened with the Tau release. I haven't heard anything about HE delays, but I don't follow WFB either.

Sad news, I just spoke to my retailer I typically go to, he said his distributor told him not to expect any of the Eldar in the first 2 weeks of their release. GW is so far behind in production that they have not even received any of their High Elves yet either...I hope some of you will be more fortunate in finding them then I will be, it sounds like GW production is a mess still and they are going to be taking care of their direct sales first and foremost.

I talked to my local games store owner and he seemed convinced that because of production problems they were releasing apocalypse rules in June instead to give them time to catch up. Not sure if that's true though, but I could see it making sense.

I really like the 6th edition rules, so Ward has that.

But as others have said, his fluff is childlike, everyone is larger than life and super invulnerable (and dont get me started on him writing in suicide missions as penance for Blood Angels or that he rewrote the second war for armageddon), his codex rules are frequently disruptive and his points costings are just wrong, See my Sig.
If the squad leaders had storm bolters and force weapons, that might make sense, but every model!
Thats before you give Terminator Troops I6 Halberds, Incubi are I5, the only saving grace is they cant take storm shields and force swords for a 2+ inv.

[sarcasm]fairly sure that was just an oversight of matt's and will be corrected in the new FAQ, and will cost less than half what they cost for any other space marine chapter[/sarcasm]

at any rate, been trolling the net for any new news, and so far have come up blank. no pics, no new rumours, nothing, like someone said further up, GW seems to have really put a tight lid on leaks concerning the upcoming Eldar release.

I've heard from a very good source that Eldar units will be able to run and shoot or shoot and run.

Going to be massive!

Shoot and run would be awesome, a bit like the Tau jump packs.
Shoot run and assault would be Awesomer.

I'm actually looking forward to it, it would be nice to have some useful allies Smile
