In the white dwarf though im certain that there will be a new firedragon model. though I have been playing for a year I never saw this one before. Bah, cant find my book but its somewhere in the middle of the book they are standing next to a Wraith Knight.

Double-post appended. Gob.

Can't say I'm a fan of the Wraithknight or the guard for that matter (Axes just don't look very elegant to me).
The new flyers look rather nice and all the talk of new rules makes me want to start jumping up and down and giggle like I'm 12 :p

I agree and I ask people to excuse my ignorance but I think this game, 6th edition anyway, is best played with shooting units.

if your talking about the fire dragons that were apart of the Batrep, they are the old fire dragons, you can still get them at a certain auction place, and i have 15 of them. if on the other hand your talking about the fire dragon(s), featured in the columns culture of the eldar and paint splatter, those are the new ones, and i have none of them. one of these days i will correct this and get all the newer aspect models except for those horrible bullet head banshees.

Various sites have leaked snippets of rules and points costs up now. Looks like Eldar psykers have indeed been kicked in the nuts.

runes of protection : only useable once, before rolling for deny the witch you can decide to use the runes to boost your deny the witch by +2

runes of clarity : one use, if the psyker fails a psychic test he may reroll the test (can also do it if he has perils)

I can't seem to find it at the moment but I'm sure that I read that Ghost Helms allow you to spend a warp charge to negate a PotW.

Eldrad is still basically the same points cost and is indeed ML4 but without RoW I'm not sure how many Eldar psykers will be seeing the battlefield anymore.

Shuriken Catapults are still utter crap due to having 12" range, and no, I don't give a toss that they are basically Rending now. That's no use to me if I can never actually shoot the damn things!

On the plus side, it looks like Guardian Jetbikes actually got cheaper, which is nice for those of you who like them.

Wave Serpents are still ridiculously overcosted (115) and I cannot see anything that will make them usable as transports for assault units, so there's little reason for them to actually exist.

Well aout wave Serpents, Serpent shield is rather good.:

Serpent shield: as long as the shield is active, every penetrating hit on the front and side armor of a vehicle is a
glance on a d6 roll of 2+. The shield may be deactivated to grant a following shooting attack :60" s 7 ap - assault d6+1, ignores cover, pinning.

Psychic power which grant ally unit +1 to save = wrauthguards with 2+ save? Or seer council on jetbikes with 2+ save 4++ and rerollable?

Sorry but the Serpent Shield is completely pointless. Yay! That penetrating hit is now a glancing hit but I still lose a Hull Point so I'm only wrecked instead of exploded. I suppose that's a good enough reason to deactivate it for a shooting attack though, cos you won't really want it activated for its defensive qualities. And for that you pay an extra 25 points on top of what was already an overrpriced transport.

Seriously, compare the Wave Serpent to the Night Scythe and tell me that 115 points plus weapons is a decent option.

Actually I think the Serpent Shield is amazing. It will take three successful shots to bring the tank down, even from melta or rail weaponry. How is that not good? Also up to 7 shots S7? I love it.

Has anyone noticed that everything in the codex allegedly is WS4 BS4 now? Could that really be? Warwalkers and Guardians would be incredible.

The Avatar with Exarch powers! Disarm and Fast Shot for the win!

Also, Eldrad's power to restore a warp charge on a 5+ seems too ridiculously good to be true.

What do you guys think about all the leaked rules? (lkhero.blogspot.com)

It would be okay it it wasn't for the price. 115 + weapons is outrageous!

I'm kind of glad I bought 3 War Walkers recently and have not yet built them. Not sure whether 2 scatter lasers is still a decent option or whether the new scatter laser ability to fire first and, if you hit, twin-link all other weapons on that model would make it worth putting a bright lance or something on it in place of the 2nd scatter laser?

That does sound nice and I'm leaning towards an Avatar as my HQ, given the nerfbat that has been taken to psykers. Failing that, an Autarch on jetbike is a possibility.

Not sure how good it will be in reality until we hear about the warp charge cost of the powers he has available. He already has 4 warp charges per turn.

100 points for a level 3 Farseer doesn't sound too bad to me. Sure, he's no longer turning other psykers into mincemeat, but that's a lot of buffs flying around.

I hope that the German source who allegedly has the codex is mistaken about the guardian stat line. While I can see guardians *maybe as having BS4, WS4 is a little ridiculous. Guardians should *not* be able to go toe-to-toe with kabalite warriors in a fight in equal numbers.

Not to mention the guardians having plasma grenades standard and that nifty move shoot run ability. Still 12" range is problematic. Storm guardians sounds half way decent with two melta guns/flamers and two power weapons per squad. It will be nice to see the complete rules though.

Yeah, that 12" range is a killer. Although sadly, not for the poor guys wielding those weapons!

What baffles me is that the Eldar, a dying race sends their inexperienced civilians into short range fire fights, and has now issued them with grenades to complement their assault weapons, are they expecting guardians to charge? I guess that's why the craftworlders are dying out! Very Happy

With 12 range they can as well throw the grenade.

One thing that I feel is kinda odd is the absence of wwp. Both the DE and FW pirate eldar got them. They are mentioned in the path series as eldar gear (path of the outcasti think) and feels right down the Eldar lane.
That would be one way to have guardians a little more up close but not too personal =)

On the other hand I also find it a tad strange for guardians to use "windshield wipers" and not las blasters etc. Yes I think much of the options in the FW book made sense, wwp and lasblaster for the people... err Eldar? =)

Shuriken Catapults started life exactly the same as Bolters but with a -2 save modifier rather than -1. In 2nd edition, if I recall correctly, they gained sustained fire (random between 1 and 3 shots but with a chance of a jam). I believe it was 3rd edition when the nerfbat was swung in a vicious arc right between their legs, reducing them to 12" range and effectively making them utterly useless as a weapon. Sadly they have stayed that way ever since.

24", S4, AP5, Rapid Fire, Shred - there, is that really that hard to do?

Mehh webway portals have always been unique to DE as a game mechanic. Don't want the Eldar and DE books getting too similar now do we. Very Happy

DE have Webway Portals? I thought they went extinct some time ago.

Granted, with the run-and-shoot ability, guardians effectively have a range of 12+1D6"... and with bladestorm (aka rending lite) and BS4, they have a pretty decent chance of doing some serious damage.

I've just got a major issue with kabalites having difficulty beating up guardians in a fistfight.

If they had to buff the statline, they should have made them like the old black guardians, with normal guardians getting a 4BS/3WS and storm guardians getting a 3BS/4WS.

The thing that I'm most curious about are the alleged 'rules dealing with elder/dark elder alliances' which were mentioned in the intial codex summary some time ago.

They can re-roll the run dice with fleet too.

I think this is a bit of a misconception. Guardians are like American war of independence milita-men or minute-men. They are not full time soldiers, but first responders when the craftworld needs them, which has always seemed pretty cool to me.

Glad to see axes on the wraithguard, 've done doodles of "what if wraithguards had melee equipment" and an axe+shield combo was the first thing I thought of hahah. Eldar axes are the coolest in the 40k galaxy. Jes Goodwin's been giving his elves axes for decades.

Axes perfectly compliments the silhouette of the Wraithguard. Wraithguard have elongated bodies with a large head, hands, and feet. Back fins help balance out the large head without making it look too top heavy. An axe fits this silhouette, axes won't look oversized compared to the wraithguard's big head and wide feet. Wraithblades with axes and shields are also an homage to the High Elves White Lions, who wield huge axes and have special protective cloaks that shield them.

Axes also looked great on Fuegan and the old Banshee exarch because of the tall Eldar helmets.

It's too bad the Wraithlord doesn't come with an axe as standard, he could swing it like a golf club to punt landraiders over the horizon heh.

Hahah, well from a fluff angle...

It's the natural Eldar bloodlust, Dark Eldar embrace it, Craftworld Eldar compose sad poems and paintings to try and hide the fact that they just enjoy the killing. There's a great 2e Eldar codex story where a Guardian is fighting chaos on a ruined Imperial world, and he begins musing about how 'natural' it is for him, a painter, to just pick up a gun and be a killer. The Farseer also muses that, though they call war a tragedy, nothing makes the Craftworld feel more vibrant and ALIVE as when they are marching to battle.

So perhaps that's why Craftworlders favor an incredibly short ranged weapon that pulps targets into bloody salami, they just like the bloodshed and excitement heheh.

But also rules wise, cannonfodder guardians are totally optional when you can choose as Troops:
-Elite, armored warriors that typically ride in battle tank transports
-Specialist stealthy guerilla fighters with long range arms
-Super speedy, heavy armored jetbikers with psychic leaders

and with 6e, ALL of them have space marine level skills!

Anyone know if the Autarch's +1/-1 to reserve rolls affects allies too?

CWE/DE allies feels like it can synergize into very stylish forces.

an enemy squad slashed open by Reavers, then slammed into with Shining Spears...
Vypers ripping open transports with flanking fire and Venoms shred the survivors...
Pirate King Yriel and Corsair Duke Sliscus descending upon the battlefield together...

...wait a minute, Dark Reapers are S&P now... so does that mean they can FIRE FROM INSIDE A MOVING VENOM?
