Moving in November, so no wraith knights until then.
Also, parting shot in WD
Pretty picture or us next?

You still need Eldar HQ plus a troop choice to get the new fighter in a DE force. We have been able to ally in vendettas since the beginning of 6th (along with a bunch of other different flyers if you fancied it), so the availability of a better flyer is nothing new. I know they aren't battle brothers, but with an allied flyer that isn't much of an issue.

Not needing AI in heavy support is too general - it depends on your list makeup. A DE player recently reported great success with wyches as their main AT threat.

Plus I think we should wait until someone has the codex in hand before we can say for sure how good the crimson hunter will really be (though I think it is looking pretty good). Razorwing not dead yet...

A farseer for anti psych
3 bikes ( can score at end or hit some long wolves)
2 War walkers / scatter laser which have scout and good vs light - medium vehicles

Is pretty good value ally thats rounds things out

The vendetta is better value but the fact that they are allies of convenience does matter as you need a HQ and troop ... which will have low movement which will restirct the rest of your army .

Just a pretty picture, however there are some rumours that the Voidraven may come alongside the Apocalypse release next month.

I'm more excited that Jetbikes stay troops than anything else.

My allies will mostly be ??? HQ, 3 Jetbikes, 3 Jetbikes, Crimson Hunter and Warp Hunter. BAMF.

Sullying your True Kin blood with the presence of our cousins? Bah! Razz

I have no idea what I'll be purchasing until I get my hands on the cdex and have played a few games with proxied models, but I will be sure to get some of those Wraithblades/Wraithguard. I'll be getting a Farseer for the sake of having a psyker (I've never used one before). I'll make an Autarch out of spair bits and pieces when I've got a suitable bits box.
I'm thinking that I'll probably add some spare DE bits to my army to make them look cooler, but nothing that will detract from their all-round not sharpness.

I do agree that Fire Dragons actually were a bit too underpriced for what they brought to the table, and their survivability going up is a good sign and an okay tradeoff for costing much more. This also begs the question, since they are wearing Heavy Aspect Armor of 3+, while previously having 4+ save, does that mean Dire Avengers and Banshees would go up to 3+ as well? Looks-wise they all look extremely similar anyway, so it wouldn't be a surprise if they were.

I dont know, doesnt seems very important to me. The way guardians are usually played it is enemy coming to them, not the other way around. 20 man pew pew from weapon platform on objective.

And if you want something go the enemy, that something usually should have to stick in Serpent, and DA is way ahead of guardians here.

I also think guardians will have good heavy weapon options..

WD, pg 25, upper right corner, shows pics of actual codex pages. one being the warp spiders and under their listing as unit type it says Jet Pack Infantry. warp spider exarch is listed as Jet Pack Infantry (Character).

anyways, placed my pre-order today with the store for 1x Wraithknight, 1x Flyer, 1x Wraithblade/Guard, and Codex. store owner told me that he more than likely would not get everything that he orders right away, priority is being given to GW retailers before Rogue Traders, but he's pretty sure that he will get at least 2 Wraithknights even though he's going to try for 3. Another Eldar player and myself already have the 2 Wraithknights spoken for, meaning his store won't have anymore unless he actually does get that 3rd Knight. Smile

finally saw the pics for the Windrider Host Jetbikes, not happy seeing GW repackage the old bullethead models and try to call them new. Nor am i pleased to see the nasty looking Howling Banshees still hanging around, I want them to bring back the banshee models i played with in 4th edition. to me, they look so much better than the current models.

also found out that the Wraithknight is a heavy support choice and so is the Wraithlord, so the Wraithlord gets a big nerf bat to face, and becomes an obsolete unit, except for in smaller point games.

reading the Batrep between the Ulthwe army and the Necrons, the guy mentions trying to cast guide on his Dire Avengers to take advantage of the Battle Focus special rule allowing them to Run and Shoot, so my thoughts are that Battle Focus will allow us to move in the movement phase and then run and shoot in the shooting phase. so 6" move, and another possible 6" move, with fleet almost making it a guarentee, meaning if done right, it's going to be hard getting into assault range with us, if we don't want you to.

I don't have a magnifier glass, so i can't make out all the small print on a couple of those Psychic cards they pictured, maybe someone else can? All in all, i believe against all previous knowledge, that we will actually come out ahead on this codex, and be even stronger than we were in the last one.

Is there any info on the Battle focus rule? Reading the back of the latest WD, Phil Kelly mentions that Battle focus represents the aspect warriors being absolutely deadly at what they do. Does this mean that Battle focus means different things for different units, or is it just that they all get to run and then shoot?

If the latter, it doesn't really make sense when you think about the Banshees, since they're assault troops.

I've heard rumors in several places that Banshees were getting some special rules about how they work in combat, could this be what they meant?

With a 12" range, its entirely possible for a unit to charge an objective sitting unit of Guardians without them ever firing their own guns in their own shooting phase. You just get a slightly expensive unit of IG, except not too many people bother using them that way.

I will withhold further comment until I've seen the entire thing - except to further reiterate than not do I find the lack of range increase tactically unhelpful, I also find the danger it places Guardian units a poor fit for the fluff. The former might change; I doubt the latter will. Shame they can't have the lasblaster. Now, if they get two heavy weapons in a unit of ten, that might work on the table...

I thought very much the same when I saw Guardians had lost BS4 and lost 12" of weapon range (from 2nd ed).
They should be much more like fire warriors.
Or perhaps guard heavy weapons teams?

Oh, come on, you dont use them alone, they require counter-charge. Wraithord is (was) perfect for the job, since there was warlock hanging around guardians to help his slumber affinities.

Something get close - you move closer in range, shoot and assault with counter-charge. Thats how guardians work.

Indeed, but note that IG can get a troop choice plus HQ that can travel in the vendetta and cancel out their movement issues. But my point was more that better flyers have always been available, and that the 'HQ plus troop' tax can be a problem. And that we would need to wait and see before deciding that eldar flyers will become the obligatory go-to flyers.

Your eldar list is an example from the old codex...e.g. farseer for antipsyk? Rumour is that this has been nerfed heavily.

On a different note, I am a little disappointed that the WK doesn't have access to some of the classic titan-level weaponry: pulsars, vibro-cannons, heat lances, D-cannons etc. Would have been evocative for an older player like me! Plus, 'suncannon' is a bit of an unimaginative name.

Also, having read White Dwarf, I noticed that GW are still being very secretive about all the new rules - not a sniff about the new shuriken rules for example.

Just read the bat-rep myself, and they didn't even describe any offensive actions by the Dire Avengers. That being said it was a good bat-rep, and the Wraithknight was killing almost a unit a turn. Pretty sure the Eldar player tabled the Necrons. The Wraithknight seems awesome. Finally an Eldar unit that doesn't require 2 turns of maneuvering just to start attacking something. Bit of an exaggeration but it can feel like that at times.

I had been going to ask if it had split fire, but with two scatter lasers and two Wraithcannons, would it matter?
A pair of shuriken cannons and a coulple of twin linked lances seems a better fit.
Pulsars might be overkill, scout titans only had a pair of those

I think there will be a huge change between Dire Avengers and Guardians... Maybe DIre avengers will be 3+ armour , i got a feeling they will get a more specialised roll rather than BS4 18" range we use them for now. I mean the price increased but they told the stores people will be buying Guardians not dire Avangers. Maybe DIre avengers use the same weapon as Guardians but armoured ?

Guardians 2-3 points cheaper and can get a heavy weapon /5 or /10 in addition to the platform. I suspect these weapons will be cheaper.

DA already seems to be specialised.

Rending Assault bolterdrill, even more threat range with run and shoot.

Their specialisation is "shoot infantry dead"

Add a Farseer and they are good to fight with anything that have toughness.

Also wanted to mention that in the Bat-Rep the Wave Serpent fired something called "the serpent shield". Not sure what this is....maybe that forcefield attack wave serpents generate in Apoc?

When wave serpents first appeared in the Epic Space Marine game, they had inpenetrable shields that they could sacrifice during a game by firing them off - the shields then travelled forward in a straight line, disrupting and damaging any units they passed through. This ability was lost when they appeared in 40K...maybe GW are bringing it back? Showing a bit of consistency with original concepts.
I don't play apocalypse though, so can't comment on that.

Supposedly, there was something about a kit with Warp Spiders/Everguard in it. Otherwise, I have not heard of anything (but I do believe there will come other news, definitely).

I would be extremely surprised if there are new War Walker models as there is a perfectly good plastic kit already. There were rumours of dual-aspect warrior plastic kits coming out but I said at the time that I didn't believe this would happen and there are no signs of it yet.

I agree seems if you want aspect warriors your getting 5 for a hefty price. Maybe that is why the guardians are going to be popular because they are the only viable build price wise, other than the new wraith army.

I have to say i'm in mixed opinions about the Eldar release, It's been so long waiting and I'm so excited to see the new book (Even splashed out on a fancy Limited Ed one) but Iyanden was a strange one to start with, i think in the entire time I've played (since about 98) there only been one pure Iyanden army I've come across, who knows maybe thats why.

Can't say I'm a fan of the Wraithknight or the guard for that matter (Axes just don't look very elegant to me).
The new flyers look rather nice and all the talk of new rules makes me want to start jumping up and down and giggle like I'm 12 :p

Although as most people are I'm sure, I'm rather disappointed to not see plastic aspects and especially to not see new Jetbikes! I hate those darn go carts, what on earth happened to that prototype back in 06!?

I guess it's time to convert a lot of DE Jetbikes, good job i have quite a few of them already ^.^

Va va voom Saim Hann!
