Hi all,

I haven't been collecting Dark Eldar for too long, but I figured I should probably contribute a Project Log.  The army at this point is going to be focused around Lady Malys and the Baron as the HQs.  I'm not a spectacular painter, but I do alright, we'll just have to see how things go as my army progresses.

I'm a big fan of the Raging Heroes minis, so some of those will be featured as well as good ol' GW stuff.

I just want to start with a picture of Lady Malys to get things rolling, and I'll post more pictures are time permits (Med school keeps things pretty busy).  I hadn't been able to find a painted Skaarlys pic yet so I thought it might be nice to see a finished product.

Skaarlys (Lady Malys)

Its just a cell phone pic, but its ok.  I'll have access to a DSLR in a couple weeks and get better pics then, along with some pictures of finished Hellions, Kabalites, and maybe Bloodbrides

Hey welcome. Loving Skaarlys (Lady Malys), the paint job is great and the color pallet is very cool and original. Looking forward to more.

That is a very well painted stand in for Lady Malys! Looking forward to more Twisted Evil

Skaarlys is a perfect conversion for Malys indeed. Smile
Cant wait to see the baron with that colour scheme!

Time for a quick update and a squad of warriors!

Just got a new camera, so hopefully the pictures will be better from now on assuming I figure out how to use it well. Still working on it...

So in this post will be some warriors as well as some (hopefully) better pics of Lady Malys. I have some Hellions done (just not photographed yet), and Malys Bloodbride squad is currently on the painting table. I was hoping to have them done soon but I have a Neuroanatomy final coming up that is competing for attention Sad

First the Kabalites:

And some more of Lady Malys:

Her back needs a touch-up I think.

So the next update will be some Hellions, no Baron yet, haven't really decided how heavily I want to convert for him yet. Then Reavers, Wyches, and a Raider are in the pipe.

Thanks for the comments so far, I'll do my best to keep things updated at least a couple times a month.

Just wanted to add a quick update. Finally took some pics of Hellions, still need another box eventually but 10 are fine for now.

Midterms and Spring break sorta threw me off my painting rhythm, but I'm back at it again and well on my way to finishing 10 Bloodbrides.
Thanks for the encouragement, I'll try to keep pics coming.

Great colour scheme, and very nicely done! The Hellions, and everything else, look great, and I really like the effort you put into your bases.

Cheers.

This is some spectacular work. You say you're not a spectacular painter, but I see so much potential. The armor on these guys is truly spectacular, I don't know why, but I love yellow dark eldar, here the armor is very well done.

The red could be done a little better I admit, some bolder highlgihts, something brighter.

I have to admit I really like the Lady Malys model, I'm rarely satisfied with conversions for this one, but here I'm all good. On this Malys you see the problem with the red, it's not really bad, more like unfinished. Some highlights in some pinkish red, can be fairly bright pink, would finish the model perfectly. ,both the scales and the hair.

Thanks for the tips, I'm working on a pair of bloodbrides that have similar colors to Malys, so I'll try out the lighter red highlights and see how I like them. If it works out I'll make some adjustments to her and post an update pic.
Its good to know when a part could use a little something more, sometimes its hard to tell when you've looked at the model a lot, you sorta become too familiar with it.

The Hellions look great, but after looking at the Kabalite Warriors again, it popped into my mind that these guys look Iyanden renegades, and it set me to wonder if you had any fluff for these guys? Anyway love the minis and definitely looking forward to seeing more. Keep up the great work.

Thanks, ya I kinda have a little fluff thought out, but there are still some holes in the narrative, and it may be blasphemous to some fluff bunnies (aka, anyone that knows the fluff better than me Wink

Spoiler:

Let me know what you think, still plenty of work to do on it, and like I mentioned, the Iyanden portion of it isn't as convincing as I want it to be.

Yep, that's the good colors for the highlights, you're gonna hate me though ><. technique could be better. Honestly hair is tricky to paint, I do use drybrush, but you need to be sure you keep the shade 'here black red, after the drybrush you can try some washes to finish, black, red in this case, but black might just do the trick.

it's just the hair, the highlights on the scales are good, it's an easier surface to paint and drybrush.

I find the best way to do these final highlights on hair is to drybrush, but really get the brush really dry, then go over the surface enough times so that highlights are visible, best is to use a fairly big brush, not too big either, but slightly bigger than a standard brush, then you do some nuln oil (black wash) in the cracks and the hair is good, though, don't apply too much of the wash either, or you'll spoil the red. It's the point to still see some red behind the pink highlights.

I do the hair before armor, because I usually mess up the armor with the drybrush I do on the hair. That might be the problem, avoiding the armor, to not having to redo the edges.

Ya I noticed it in a couple places as I was uploading pictures, it shows up way more in the pics that it does in RL. I'm already planning a fix for it, hopefully just a selective wash then re-highlighting. Mainly just wanted the make sure the lighter color looked ok.

Alright, new update.

Bloodbrides finished and photographed

Let me know what you guys think or if you want to see a specific model. Group shots can make it harder to see certain models sometimes.

Now I'm working on a trio of Reavers.

Excellent man, glad you listen to me, the highlgihts on these came out great.
I'm a bit disappointed you censored the Vestals, I want to buy some for sure, the models are just so cool and the have more skin than our wyches. Weirdly enough they are so similar to our wyches, i'm wondering if there isn't a copyright issue with those, they even have similar weapons.
I do think they might be better with real dark eldar weapons, but it's just a choice.

I'm looking forward to seeing your reavers.

The censoring was mainly just to avoid any problems when playing games in shops and stuff, I'd rather not upset any parents and prevent kids from picking up the hobby. I'd rather have games/models I don't have to worry about.

I highly doubt there would be any copyright problems. They are named different, and no mention of 40k or Eldar is ever mentioned (unlike the naming issues with Chapterhouse). GW can't claim copyright infringement over female elves with knives/pistols against Raging Heroes anymore than they can claim it against Blizzard for the concept of 'Powered Armor'.

As for the weapons, side by side the GW wyche stuff seems much less elegant...more clunky than the Blood Vestal weapons and hands. The only exception is the GW hydra gauntlets, I do like those better.

The Reavers are done, just have to photo them.

Here they are, the first 3 of what will eventually be many many Reavers.

I have started now on a Sliscus stand in (also from Raging Heroes).

The reavers looks brilliant in yellow! as do the hellions. I'm fully digging the color scheme.
