Twas the Night Before Candlemass.

Twas the night before Candlemass, when all through the hive
Everybody was waiting, for it to arrive.
They tightly clung onto their scriptures with prayer,
In the hopes that the Emperor’s spirit would soon be there.

The priests and the preachers all stood with glee,
For none of them knew what was soon to be.
For Urien was all dressed in bright red and green,
He had come to redecorate with his laughter, so mean!

When out in the streets there arose such a clatter,
It soon came apparent that citizens were now splatters.
Down on the ground came a constant smash,
And countless more were rendered to ash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow,
Gave lustre to the burning buildings below.
But then, what appeared to their eye’s behest,
A festive Venom, pulled by lumbering Grotesques.

With a frail, pale driver, the best of his art,
Everybody knew that this was Urien Rakarth!
Faster than Razorwings his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name.

“Now Smasher! Now Crasher! Now Razor and Brazier!
On Anguish! On Despair! On, on Wanton and Nightmare!
To the top of the chapel, to the top of the wall!
Now Bloodshed! Bloodshed! Bloodshed for all!”

As corpses freeze into flakes in the winter,
When they met with defence it did whiter.
So into the Habs and the houses they flew,
Caskets of Flensing and hulking great blades, too.

And then in the lieu, when screaming had stopped,
Into the street he came, from his sleigh he had hopped.
As few drew their weapons and attempted to turn,
Down the road came Urien, their souls he would burn.

He was dressed in finest Gnarlskin from head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with tears, ashes and soot.
A bundle of arcane ‘toys’ he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a psycho, with his writhing pet Wrack.

His eyes how they twinkled! Yet his face looked quite rotten!
He cared not for what they thought! For they would all be forgotten!
His grimacing mouth was drawn like a bow,
And his partly exposed skull was white as the snow.

The handle of a blade he did hold in his hand,
And many, many blows in succession he did land.
He had a pinned on face and a great mass of spines,
That through lesser creatures many could find.

He was tall and gaunt, a jolly space elf,
Yet people would scream in spite of themselves!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Informed all present that soon they’d be dead.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to work,
Taking all their faces, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, onto his craft he arose.

He sprang to his Venom, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew, like the down of a thistle.
Urien did exclaim before he flew out of sight,
“Anguish to all, and to all a dark night!”

Thanks, Alys Dwr. It didn't take too long to write and I am quite pleased with how it came out. Smile

Thank you very much, Mushkilla. I thought something festive was in order. It was either Urien or Drazhar, but you don't get much out of Drazhar. Smile
