PostSubject: Urien Rakarth, and his amazing ability to Challenge...   Mon Oct 08 2012, 05:11

A game I had a couple of weeks ago, proved to me that Urien is a beast in combat.
He challenged Logan Grimnar in a one on one battle, and completely obliterated him.
I then proceeded in every game, just for fun, to hunt their commanders with Urien and his squad, just to have Urien kill them himself.

I must be missing something. The clone field is good but I just don't see how you beat grimnar

Just normal hits, along with the usefulness of meld the flesh and clone field. He couldnt hit me at all.
And theres always casket of flensing, which helps alot against most commanders.

Clone field, toughness five, feel no pain, a 3+ instant death weapon and mend the flesh? Plus you should be running him with 3-4strength 6 grots that are strength7 on the charge so he would be strength 4 on the charge and can reroll to wound an instant death weapon against meq? Yep. He should kill most anything in a challenge. They only have to fail one save to become a smear on the ground.
It all comes down to a game of attrition that most other charactors cant hope to win.

Aye - he is a beast in a challenge. Clone FIeld + Regeneration is evil. Before he can be targeted by whole squad, but now, fighting a challenge he is ridiculosly tough, and all you need is one scratch. Even powerfists cant ID him. With Feel No Pain and clone field even things that wound him on 2+ will probably cause one wound that will be healed soon.

Also casket is able to Precision Shot ))

He is overcosted still, but closer now to his worth in points.

In the case of any eternal hero (like Logan) he is a smear first as the challenge protects the enemy from the grots while those 200+ characters put out 2+ wounds after the field easy every turn.

I don't think urien vs 2+ saves and or eternals is a good idea

On average Logan does no damage to Rakarth. 5 attacks, hitting on 3+ is 3.33 hits, 2 of whch will usually be negated by the clone field. 1.33 hits go through resulting in 1.11 wounds. FNP takes that down to 0.74 unsaved wounds per turn, which Rakarth regenerates at the start of his turn. It would be a battle of attrition. Unfortunately, Urien only does 0.22 wounds to Logan per turn so it's going to take a while!!

Urien does less than that... Only 3 attacks makes it 0.16 per turn. With Logan, he has preferred enemy so the damage goes up and of course wounding on 2+ means he should deal about 2 wounds or just under after fnp. This means urien dies in 2 rounds of combat as he never gets a chance to regen

Urien has 4 attacks due to 2 cc weapons. With Preferred Enemy Logan does, on average, 1.88 hits each turn after the Clone Field kicks in. This translates to 1.83 wounds, which FNP brings down to 1.22 wounds per player turn or 2.44 wounds per game turn, of which Urien regenerates 1. So it would take at least 2 game turns, or 4 rounds of close combat for Grimnar to take down Urien. Against anything that isn't Eternal Warrior though, I'd bet on Urien.

Thankyou for supporting the point lads. I'm so glad Urien is better than it used to be.

Urien in a challenge, at least for me, is undefeated.
He has taken out Imoteck (sp?) orc warbosses, more space marine captains than you can imagine and Eldrad.
Not too shabby! Smile

Ork Warbosses/Ghazzie are the real gambles, one of the few models that will swing at Str 10 and can insta-gib Urien. Otherwise, yes he is pretty boss in challenges, the only thing I've seen get enough attacks to do anything decent was the old Chaos lord with a Daemon weapon. I think we should see less of those now, but we will need to watch for some of those new Chaos characters.

If you do run him in a Grot squad, you can always accept challenges with the Aberration with Scissorhands. 7 attacks on the charge, wounding on 2's normally because of Str 7, with re-rolls to wound because of poison. Or drop it to 6 for a fleshgauntlet, and inflict instant death.

Don't forget that Urien only regenerates a wound at the start of his turn, not every turn.
