My big question: Is it worth it... I've been looking at the system for years, but didn't know if was worth a damn.

Personally it is my fav GW system. The biggest drawback is finding others that play it. And finding the models. As a specialist game it is no longer truly supported by GW, making it hard to get into.

I am a huge fan of Battlefleet Gothic! I find it is one of the best games GW has produced, and if you go the the Specialist Games section of the GW website you can download all the Rule Books in PDF format for FREE! Also, I find all of the fleets to be well balanced as far as rules and point values go, and it is very inexpensive to start a small fleet. The pictures of the Dark Eldar Fleet do not do the models justice. I have seen several examples of the Dark Eldar Fleet and they look fantastic on the table top!

You must have never played vs Crons

I prefer some of the scratch builds(mostly from Reavers, both old and new). The biggest issue with the range is that it is only 2 ships with various attachments. No diversity

I've thought about asking Lucky to do a commission for my fleet, but that depends on if I can get my local group into it. It shouldn't be too hard. They all play Battletech, but right now, getting them to build and finish their armies is more important.

Actually, I play against Necrons more than any other fleet! They are my regular opponent. They are very tough, but can be vulnerable to Attack Craft and massed Weapons Batteries following a Lance Strike.

With the select use of left over spiky bits and blades from the old style Raiders/Ravagers and Jetbikes, you can make those models look very different. I know, I didn't believe it myself, until I saw it in person!

Love that system....its sad it gets no love from GW.

As for ships.....since:
Quote:
All DE are pirates, but all pirates are not DE. DE are more than just pirates.
I use some Eldar ships but with my attack crafts ect....cuz having 2 kinds of ships is f joke.

The Dark Eldar Fleet would be better if it had more models in the range. The point I was trying to make is the two they have, look much better in person, than they do in any pictures you will see of them on the GW website or in their printed material.

I have always felt that the Dark Eldar Fleet should have included any ships from the Craftworld Eldar Fleet as well. Especially now, since there are many references to Void Stalker Battleships in the new Codex. You could always add some spikes/blades to the Forgeworld Eldar Light Cruisers to increase the vareity of the Dark Eldar.

i really like the BFG system.

i have a nice big Imperial fleet and still manage to have the odd game - mostly against my mate's orks with his ridiculous number of Brute Ramships that cause a huge amount of hilarious carnage.

the most tactial affaris i've played are generally the Imp v Chaos games, vwery much like a good ol' fashion naval battle with lots of manouevring to bring about huge broadsides after an initial wave of massed torpedos.

I really like the idea of mimic engines. They look awesome.

Mimic Engines were the cause of a crippleling first strike to my Imperial Fleet the first time I've faced the Dark Eldar!!!

Like the new Codex, the fleet rules do a very good job of reflecting the personality of the Dark Eldar.

I really like the Battlefleet Gothic rules. However, they are far from balanced.

Weapon Batteries completely decimate Eldar, yet not as much with Dark Eldar (Don't get me wrong, they still do damage the Dark Eldar a lot). The biggest thing that annoys me is the lack of the "To wound" roll. It took me a while to realize that the "To Hit" roll is also the "To Wound" roll.

Strangely, BFG is one of the few instances where they have multiple factions of the same race, THAT AREN'T SPACE MARINES! ZOMG! There are 3 different Eldar Fleets (Craftworld, Wraithships, and Yriel's Raiders)!

On a sidenote, if you are up against Necrons, point out that Necron Weapons ignore Holo-Fields, but not Shadow Fields Very Happy (both of which are a 2+ Invul save. It is a big deal if it is ignored)

I am working on a fleet of both converted ships from the new reavers and completely scrathbuilt ships based upon the one in the background of the new Commoragh art that is in the background of the DE interview videos.

If anyone is interested, I'm considering making masters to be cast in resin. I can post some pictures very soon when some more work is done, if anyone is interested.

-Mumbles bitterly about neither being true for the Ork fleet-

Chaos and the Imperium are very balanced against each other, and since that is what you get in the starter set, that is what most people play. Every other fleet? Dark Eldar are balanced in relation to most of them, but if you end up against Orks or Tyranids your opponent has to do everything right to beat you.

Not really with Tyranids. Tyranids can just get TONS of escorts with Weapon batteries and then give them all the upgrade that shifts the gunnery table to the left (I'm not sure if you even need to buy the upgrade, I don't have the rules within arms reach atm). Then, get like 4 of these escorts (which cost next to nothing) and surround your main Hive Ship. You can give your Hive Ship so many weapon batteries that they just obliterate the greatest Eldar Ships. Then, they have huge amount of escorts that can pick off your escorts with Weapon Batteries.

Assault Boats are a good counter to Escort Heavy Fleets (Unless they're Eldar). A single, successful Hit and Run attack will destroy an Escort. Take lots of Launch Bays if your facing either Tyranids or Orks and keep pumping out the attack craft as fast as you can!

@ Inquisitor Earl

Any news / progress on your scratchbuild? If you've got any photos that would be even better. BFG is in fact what got me back into 40K in general and into the Dark Eldar in particular, so I've been slowly building a fleet from bits of reavers - whole old style reavers - and hellion skyboards. But I've never quite worked out how to get something that looks like the ships in those pictures (the one from Battle Missions is pretty similar and slightly bigger I think) and I love them. So please do colour me extremely interested if you're still around here. In fact I apologise in advance if I end up PM-ing you within a few day...
