Oh, I like that. So instead of a straight buff to jump troops, the charge re-roll and Hammer of Wrath is a tactical choice.

I agree, seems like some of the new rules really give you more tactical choices, like moving further with gunboats but taking a hit to their effectiveness or not going so far but with better shooting.

The cover thing is a problem, most of the times if the ruin isn't also an area terrain, charging unit won't get a save.

Btw, wyches even if nerfed can be useful anyway, just stay the hell away from terminators.

unless you fancy using them as a road block. Surely wyches aren't any worse against assault terminators than they used to be? Only the hekatrix used to cancel their 2+save, so you'd only send wyches against them as a road block anyway, which with their 4+ dodge they're just as useful for under the new rules?

And FnP is harder to cancel, so they might even get better if there is no hammer in front of them.

Regarding defensive grenades and the cover save given vs Overwatch.

Say I have 10 Wyches charging through cover (Not ruin) towards 10 marines. Only 2 wyches are within the 8 inches bubble of protection, do ALL my wyches gain the cover save, or just the two at the front?

Just the 2 at the front. The saves are made model per model

Okay, so that's a lot less effective now isn't it. It's something, but by in large I cannot see it coming into play too often.

It come into play when something want to charge you and before that - shoot you.
IT will want to be about 8 or less away to hope for good charge.

I dont even think defensive grenades will work against snapfire after some FAQ.

Under look out sir, when it says "A character" does it mean an independant character? So you should still be able to target sargents, apothecaries, etc with sniper rifles, right?

IC saves on 2+, C on a 4+.
You can target sergeants with sniper rifles, but they can be saved.

I've read that independent characters get a 2+ look out sir, and other characters get a 4+

I'm guessing no, as they're not a character.

Independent characters and most types of 'sergeants' are all characters. There are unit lists at the back of the book and basically all upgrade characters are characters.

For DE that's; aberration, acothyst, archon, arena champion, beastmaster, dracon, haemo ancient, normal haemo, hekatrix, helliarch, klaivex, nightfiend, solarite, succubus, sybarite and syren. All the named ones too ofcourse, but they're not in that list.

man, is it just me or is all this crazy 'nearest model dies', cover save 25% of model not the unit milarky going to seriously slow down the game with nit picking? Its more realistic but certainly seems to be slower... I'm gutted that Mandrakes - despite having move through cover, will still suffer the I1 for not having assault grenades: was really hoping they'd be viable in 6th (which in my books they would've if IC's could join them as infiltrators). Oh well, any idea when the FAQs are out? I guess it'll be monday won't it...

IIRC the Warhammer Fantasy 8E FAQs posted about 2 weeks after the release of 8E. Because of reasons.

yeah I was trying to remember the delay of the 8th ed faqs - couldn't recall though. I hope its much sooner for 40k! I think that there is quite a lot that they will need to clear up so people know what models to buy!

Going to give this thread until Monday, (when by then I would assume *most* people have got their own rulebooks) then the thread will be closed.

FAqs are up. DE assault is officially dead imho. Agonisers, Huskblades, Klaives... all ap3 as predicted. At least demiklaives are ap 2 when clasped. Drazhar is somewhat good albeit really expensive. I wonder if it isn't better to take an allied Bloodthirster instead of Drazhar and some incubi and a raider. Less expensive and stronger.

Archons useless because they can be challenged and killed with ease by anything with 2+ armor. Same for Succubi. Haemie are the way to go. All in all i think i hate gw for that.

But i have to admit... demiklaives are the only CCW in the entire wh40k with ap2 without unwieldly it seems.

Huskblades aren't dead, sure, it doesn't negate 2+ armour saves, but if they fail one, they're dead, and an archon should be getting 6-7 attacks on the charge. Bottom line is that terminator armour is supposed to be the ultimate in personal protection, and now it actually is instead of being largely negated by most close combat units.

nop. Look at Necrons, Pretorians have DS2 and the warssachgaslfkj whatever a necron loard is equippted with has DS1.

also don't forget that Lelith and the Baron ignore armour. (Baron on 5+)

It's not the fact that terminator armour is awesome, its just that all imperial armies get ap1 powerfists while most xenos don't get any. That's what I really hate!
