why did you go for two venom blades? you still get the benefits on the extra attack even if you just take a normal close combat weapon, you could take a blast pistol and still get +1 attack wounding on 2+ in close combat but you also get a chance to do some damage in the shooting phase if need be

I want the poison and I can't pay for an agonizer anymore... And fluffwise I like the idea of a hidden killer.

Still any hints are welcome... We are talking about the last 10-30 points here... And it HAS been years since I played 40K, and never with DE.

I could dump the (unnecessary) Lhamean, but can I take a dedicated Venom for the Archoness if I give her a blast pistol? but no court? The rules seem to suggest: no.

EDIT: OK you got me... I will give the archoness the company of 2 lhamean priestesses and arm her normally plus the shadow field. Then I am all in the clear, even if I expect those priestesses to die off pretty quickly...

My point is the archon comes with a splinter pistol and close combat weapon as standard, so paying for the second venom blade is pointless, it doesn't give you any benefit but costs you 5 points.

I dunno how so many people can mess up with reading how the court works.
Every "pet" of the Archon has a 1-x restriction. You want a court? Than you have to take them all.

Correct, a court has to include at least one of each type of creature, and no, you can't take a venom without taking a court.

If you really need the venom, I'd suggest breaking one of your wych squads into two, put one in a venom with one of your hekatrixes (hekatrices? hekatrisses? hekatrex?) and stick the other in the raider with your archon, gives you the extra transport and gives you another option for mobility. Nothing to stop you charging both units into the same target if you need, the only time it really hurts is taking 25% casualties to force a morale test and if the scenario is killpoints based.

A shame - I don't like the other court models.

Back to the drawing board...

EDIT: help me out here...

EITHER I go back to the succubus and give her 3 bloodbrides in a venom, for 109 points plus the venom
OR I drop the venom entirely, add a 7 strong bloodbrides squad in a raider, remove ALL haywire grenades and make them all 8 model strong squads (3 in total, 2 wych squads led by a hekatrix, one bloodbride squad led by the succubus, all leaders with agonisers)

I think, in the idea of redundancy, three wych squads for 1000 points would really give the enemy a huge problem with target selection, extra with the AT-reavers at their backs.

Plus, I seem to have enough AT-weapons to dump the haywires (3 dark lances on the raiders, 6 on the ravagers, 2 heatlances on the reavers), making the wyches and bloodbrides pure AI.

In the second option I give 10 extra points to the succubus raider for enhanced aethersails and shock prow, meaning I will convert the succubus raider to make it extra threatening. And I will be painting the succubus raider and the bloodbrides 'elite'.

Total for option B: 1002 points.

THE VOID SCORPIONS

Engaging in Commorragh politics is a risky business, as Chaeril, leader of the wych cult 'Void Scorpions', learnt time and again during the ages. As the heir to a now extinct Commorragh noble family, she harbours her quest for revenge against Asdrubael Vect as a sweet poison hidden behind an undying smile. Chaeril had to become an expert in reinventing herself, in order to survive. Even though she never managed to strike a direct blow against Vect, she has keenly sharpened the martial wits of herself and her cult during thousands of years. As Vect is a supreme master in subterfuge and espionage, Chaeril's only true success is hiding her noble ancestry from those who might use this fact against her. A matter which serves as a slow cancer, eating Chaeril up from within, for her wits, her charms and her smile are but a thin shield to hide her endless hatred for those that rule Commorragh.

In public eyes, Chaeril seems an adamant supporter of the Commorragh status quo, seemingly aloof, vain and only interested in the gladiatorial games in which her Void Scorpions have remained a top ten contestant for over a millennium. However, through endless layers of shadows and ploys, Chaeril obsesses over ways to kill Vect and bring a new golden age to Commorragh's nobility. As such, the Void Scorpions are always observing the galaxy for ways to secretly disturb the balance of power. The cult maintains ties to all manner of embittered Dark Eldar and Xenos outcasts and pirates, and after Chaeril has considered hundreds of ploys and diversions, moves and countermoves, she might lend her cloaked support to this or that attempt for a rebellion or a coup.

Recently, however, things went wrong, and Chaeril had to diverge quite a lot of resources to eliminate a Scourge spy loyal to Vect who had managed to link the Void Scorpions to a failed uprising. Even though the matter seems resolved at this point, Chaeril realises that the game she plays cannot be won through supporting incapable contenders to the throne. More active measures are needed. Perhaps a lesson in xenos subterfuge is what is truly needed – learned outside of the stale and ritualized power games of Commorragh.

Behind a veil of boredom, the Void Scorpions have thus withdrawn their name from the gladiatorial roster for a season to take their battle to the stars in an extended training mission. Their target: the hive world of Necromunda. There, only a few decennia before, the local ash waste nomads had won a series of stunning victories against the Necromundan armoured divisions, using no more than crude meltabombs and camo-cloaks to hide themselves in the endless ash wastes. After major uprisings against the governor, both within the hives and the wastes, one mon'keigh officer had managed to stem the tide by gaining the allegiance of the underhive gangs and the ash waste nomads alike. His 'reward' had been to lead a perpetual campaign under the flag of the Necromundan Expeditionary Forces, meant to see all these unruly rebels die for the glory of the Imperium. Chaeril is fascinated by the stories of this 'Nomad Legion', since, even though they suffered horrible losses, the Legion managed to win battle after battle using all manner of unconventional tactics and methods of guerrilla warfare.

Xenos mercenaries, outcasts and prisoners have made it clear to Chaeril that this man, brigadier general Alexander, now an old man, has been recalled to Necromunda for his final retirement. Knowing that this man has a soft spot for independent elements in the hives and the wastes alike, Chaeril wil lure him out by playing guerrilla warfare against the experts, striking deep into hives and wastes alike. All captives will be brought to Commorragh to appease the masses in the arenas. But the ultimate goal is to capture both this brigadier general Alexander and his nomad ally, the so-called 'Cardinal of Ashes', to pry them open for their secrets. And who knows, perhaps the hive world of Necromunda can be disturbed once again into open rebellion, to learn more about hit and run and scorched earth tactics - lessons which might be valuable in the next ploy against Vect.

Hehe, it sounded better cyclops

The dice have been rolled: my succubus is a minor player in Commorragh power politics, with neither enough military power, strong allies or experience to make a dent into the status quo, so she is always condemned to play sweet to those in control, buying her time to strike. However, she knows she is slowly withering away from the inside from frustration of needing to be sympathetic to those she detests and wants to kill with slow poisons or her bare hands. So, knowing that impatience will get her killed, she has taken her reasonably well-known gladiatoral cult to fight an open war in a region of space where she can learn the things needed to have a bigger chance for victory against Vect and his cronies.

Nooooooo!!!

Ahem... anyway. Very Happy
Cool name and nice fluff. I can't wait to here more about them.
In a way, I am relieved, because now I don't feel so bad about my Reavers being named the Shining Hornets, something which I have been planning for a long time.
I like the Succubus. She seems like a pleasant charecter. Smile

Back from a theme park, this is the list I am finally going to try & put on the table:

HQ/ELITE

- Succubus armed with hydra gauntlets, with 9 standard bloodbrides, in a raider with dark lance and flickerfield: 257 points

TROOPS

- wych armed with hydra gauntlets, with 9 standard wyches, in a raider with dark lance and flickerfield: 180 points
- wych armed with hydra gauntlets, with 9 standard wyches, in a raider with dark lance and flickerfield: 180 points

FAST ATTACK

- reaver with heatlance, with 2 standard reavers: 78 points
- reaver with heatlance, with 2 standard reavers: 78 points

HEAVY SUPPORT

- ravager with 3 dark lances and flickerfield: 115 points
- ravager with 3 dark lances and flickerfield: 115 points

TOTAL

- 1003 points

Right, now you may notice that I have very little to compensate for low strength or armour penetration in hand to hand combat, instead putting a lot of normal knife slashes out there. I never really liked that agoniser-model, replacing 2 hekatrixes and 3 agonisers with 3 hydra gauntlets and throwing out enhanced aethersails and a shock prow managed to save me the 65 points needed to bring all my wych and bloodbride squads to full strength, and relatively cheap as well, for a full wych squad of 110 points. Low strength and armour penetration problems will just need to be compensated by luck with loads of dice. At least I am happy to be able to up the amount of models to 6 jetbikes, 5 raiders/ravagers and 30 infantry for 1003 points, hopefully messing up the target selection of the enemy and getting enough models stuck in asap. And, it should look pretty threatening at startup!

Brilliant idea.
They look quite fluid, though, so ifyou make them sharper and more blade-like then it would work splendidly well.

Thanks!

For the record, all my 40K bases are grey ashes, since I base my armies at Necromunda. I do the same for Warhammer, with green flock, I like how it ties armies together.

In other news (before I shut up for a while), the time is drawing nearer to act the traitor: the moment I have 400 points painted, I will be switching attention to getting my Imperial Guard army on the same level, meaning that I will probably relocate for a time to an IG forum - does any of you know if there is a forum as great as this one for IG???

Thanks for the hint!

This is the only IG forum I know of.

However, when working on your IG you could post a project log type thing here:http://www.thedarkcity.net/f14-distractions , as I would like to see the army.

OK I'll leave you to go sleep then with a picture of my 'Luckies', a veteran survivor squad.

(Once again, no fancy stuff here next to sergeant and flamer. The converted Bell Huey helicopter I gave them sadly became useless junk throughout the years...)

And now what you might call a 'desktop assault', the full total of my painted DE (up to 152 points)! :-)

(note the strange hydra gauntlets, I had to improvise after I actually lost an arm through cutting off, reassembling and then doing the reverse again hydra - agoniser - hydra - how I hate cutting up mini's...)

OK my Void Scorpions painted up!

- 9 standard wyches with haywire grenades, and a wych with hydra gauntlets = 130 points
- 3 standard reavers = 66 points
- total = 196 points

Still to come, another reaver, a ravager and a raider to transport the wyches, for the 403 points '40K in 40 minutes' list I am going to start off with. For the 1003 point army as the final goal, the wyches lose the haywires and the reavers gain heatlances, switching roles as a consequence.

As this is the end of my self-imposed monthly GW allowance (one purchase each month), and the 6th edition rulebook underway, it might be either july or august before I continue this little army of mine. So... time to paint some 'Nomad Legion' Imperial Guard, or do some worthwhile real life stuff for a change (...)
