Eldar Soup question Empty
PostSubject: Eldar Soup question    Eldar Soup question I_icon_minitimeSun Nov 18 2018, 19:40

Hi guys I have a tournament coming up December 16th, 1750 points. It will be at the same place that I attended a month ago which was 1500pts and I had a list here:
http://www.thedarkcity.net/t18235-1500-point-tournie-list

The guy that won who ran a Castelan, 2 Punisher Lemans and the loyal 32 will be there.

I want to try and take the most powerful army I can this time and want to go a strong finish. I have Dark Eldar and Harlequins but no Craftworld at all. I hear a lot of people say the Farseer on a Skyrunner should almost be an auto include. Does she work well as a single model and does the Farseer synergize well with Drukhari/Harlequins, or do I need to bring Craftworld Units?

The list I had in mind was going to likely include Soaring spite Skyweavers, Squads of Clowns with Fusion Pistols in Starweavers, Prophets of the Flesh (Urien, Grotesques, Talos).

Jinx+Doom is extremely good, if you are able to fit them, then i would.

Supreme Command with:
Farseer Skyrunner – Doom, Executioner
Warlord Skyrunner – Protect/Jinx
Optional: Warlock/Spiritseer/Autarch

I know you are lower on points (1500-1750) but the bonus damage Doom/Jinx can do is just insane, its the difference of killing a knight or not.

Doom/Jinx to a vehicle is is something like 40% more damage. for the 200pts, those 2 models will over 2-3 turns help you do 600pts of damage.

A single Farseer Skyrunner is very good and does synergise with Drukhari/Harlequins; Doom allows any Eldar unit to reroll wounds against a target. Executioner and Smite are also very strong sources of mortal wounds, which can be a bit of a weak point for pure Drukhari forces.

Adding in a Warlock Skyrunner enhances this even further, as they can provide +1 to cast to each other and Jinx (-1 to save) means that you're essentially picking a unit to delete each turn.

I usually recommend a Craftworld Battalion (Farseer, Warlock, three Rangers) because they're a very cheap source of psychic powers, objective control and CP, but the Farseer by herself is still a good force multiplier.

What the Farseer (on foot or bike, that depend on how mobile you want him to be) gives you is Doom.

Doom is a 24" psychic power that target an enemy unit and let your whole army re-roll wounds rolls made against that unit. Which is very good overall and especially for poison and hirewire weapons

Add in another power from Runes of Fate (usually Executioner) or Smite and the ability to deny and you could also give him a 12" S9 ranged weapon for a point more then an Agonizer

So a solid choice but I would not run him alone (paying 1CP for the aux detachment ) but in a supreme command detachment with a couple of Warlocks (Jinx!) or in a battalion with 3 units of rangers and a Warlock.

Hey guys thanks for the input I was doing quite a bit of research on this last night. Armish, I was thinking of running a Supreme Command Detachment (Ulthwe) Eldrad, a Farseer on a Skyrunner and a Warlock on a Skyrunner. This would be to keep up with the very speedy Soaring Spite Quin bikes and Cars full of fusion. I was looking at Singing Spear on the Skyrunners, what a ridiculously good weapon for just 5 pts!

How is Eldrad? Is he good, he looks like quite a psychic beast!

Is an Archon (Blackheart, Writ of living muse) and a Triple Dissie Ravager (447pts) generally better than Urien and PoF Triple Talos with haywire blaster and macroscalpels with chain flails (384pts)? I am really torn on this choice, with a difference of 63pts.

The List I am planning on running will be a Soaring Spite Quins Battalion with 5 Skyweavers (all I can fit with the points). If I took the engines I could go up to 6 Skyweavers. But then 27 dissie shots with re-rolls 1- to hit and to wound is no joke.

Eldard is fine if you dont out distance him. If you can play him well he is better than a Farseer for sure. But he is one of those pieces where you make 1 wrong movement and he falls apart.

As for is BH trip Ravager vs Talos, they are different things. Talos does some shooting and amazing Melee, is though but slow, Ravagers are amazing at shooting and fast but glass cannons and no melee.

So its up to you, i personally like Talos if you have no Quins, if you have Quins then no Talos. They are kinda the same roles, one is faster and a little more shooting, the other is a bit slower, better in melee but tougher. I feel thats a good basic way to look at them.

Thanks Amish, would you consider Talos if you were taking a more shooty Quins List? I have now put together a list in the Army Lists section. Sorry for the multiple threads, I am just trying to put something powerful together quickly so I can get some practice in:

I meant, you just dont want to over do the same type of units, unless you are purposing doing that for a reason.

Talos, Skyweavers are somewhat close to each other in that regards, you can take both, but if someone has a good answer to that style unit you are more likely to be counter and lose. Especially if you are playing ITC, ITC is all about 2ndary VP's. If they can gain them each turn and you cant, even if you are a better player, they just need to out counter you more than you counter them.

But with that said, you can focus on that concept and make it way to hard for them to take the 2ndary VP's.

So its up to you, and the rules of the event.

After seeing your list, i honestly feel you are going more for fun and not a hard win, in which case just take what you like more Very Happy

In 7th i was still playing comp DE, 3 Kabals, Venoms, 2 Lhamaeans, 5 Talos CTC, Literallt the rest just Reavers (I have like 40 reavers) even tho i knew i would lose the event, it was much more fun and i even was still able to pull off some good wins against strong lists.

Going to events with fun lists can spark you to like them more-so than comp lists and make you a better player, especially if you know how those units work more-so than a unit you are not familiar. with

Tagging onto this post to understand Haywire a bit more if I add in Doom and possibly Jinx. If I Doom a Knight and then drop in my haywire scourge to blast it:
- I roll to hit
- I roll to wound with 4s and 5s being the mortal wound and 6s being D3 mortals
- STR 4 so really only the 6s actually wound for a Knight Saving throw

Would I have to re-roll the 4s and 5s? Or do I have the option to keep them? (Sorry I only play DE at this point and dont have an Eldar codex - but I'm craftworld curious Wink)

Bonus question: Crunching numbers: should I swing for the fences and re-roll 4s and 5s going for as many 6s as possible? I guess Jinx would affect this calculation as it might make the chances of failing regular wounds higher...maths  Suspect

Rock on everyone!

The wording on Doom is that you can re-roll failed wound rolls, not that you have to, so you can keep 4s and 5s if you're happy with only inflicting a mortal wound.

I'd recommend keeping the 4 or 5, because if you re-roll that result you have a 50% chance of a worse result (no wounds!) and only a 16% chance of a better one.

Yep, no need to re-roll 4's and 5's, as its optional with Doom, another reason its so good.
