 Can't win against the mechanicus

PostSubject: Can't win against the mechanicus   Sun Aug 26 2018, 00:01

Hey guys!

I would like to hear your strategy and which units you use against the mechanicus. They seem to have all the possible buff in the warhammer world and they shred me to pieces everytime I fight them. Not to mention that my opponent who play them use 1 IK and 2 Armiger Helverin.



We usually play at 2000 pts and we are 4 to 6 players. Opponents are randomly selected.

That sounds like what my bro plays. I run wych cult with 2 venoms and a raider, 3 msu wyches, 6 jetbikes, 4 haywire scourges, 5 hellions and 8 incubi with succubus wl and another succubus. He keeps healing the knight and his stupid dunecrawler too so the one time i decide to go for the smaller threat he still heals it over and over.

How much is he healing his knight? Each tech priest can only heal 1 wound on the knight (as opposed to 1d3 wounds on other types of models) - 2 with the right warlord trait (at least, I think it's a warlord trait that grants a +1 wound to their heal).

The problem is i could never get it down on its damage table. If i did it was by 1 wound and he got it back! How many wounds do i need to do turn 1 considering dominus is hiding behind the knight 24/7

I think you could get it down to three units of Dark Lance Scourges to kill a Knight in a single turn.

Bit fiddly though. They need to be in an Ynnari detachment and Craftworld psykers need to be debuffing the Knight with Doom and Jinx.

I think the issue will be if you're facing multiple knights. You'll probably take down one, but I doubt those Scourges will live to shoot again, which will be a huge drop in firepower.

So I was doing some thinking, and you could have an outrider, succubus in raider, 3x haywire scourges, a spearhead, archon in raider with 3x ravagers, another spearhead, haemy in raider with 3x units of 2 taloi each with haywire for under that 1850 pt mark. What's everyone's opinion?

Why would you want to do that? You'd have very few command points and the only Cult element you have in your list is a Succubus so it hardly seems worth taking an outrider just for her. If you really want a Succubus you could always take a supreme command detachment or even an auxiliary.

Archon and Ravager Spearhead, yeah. That's a tried and tested formation and you certainly won't lose anything by taking that. You can put the Scourges into that detachment plus some Warriors to make a battalion fairly cheaply. Similarly you can just add a few wracks to make a Coven battalion. You'll still have everything in your proposed list but with considerably more command points and some objsec troop units for objective claiming.

I tried getting it all in with the wracks, pushed it over the cap, plus 2 haemies. You are right about the battalion, but i could only get 2 units of scourge under 1850.
