PostSubject: 2000 pt Alliance of Agony   Sun Jun 10 2018, 21:15

As the title reads...here is a 2k Alliance of Agony I'm toying with. Please give me your thoughts on it:

KABAL OF THE FLAYED SKULL BATTALION:

Archon- blaster, Djin Blade, Famed Savagery- 93
Archon- blaster, huskblade- 93
10 Kabalite Warriors- 2 blasters, splinter cannon- 104
-Raider- dark lance, splinter racks- 95
5 Kabalite Warriors- blaster- 47
-Venom- dual splinter cannons- 75
5 Kabalite Warriors- blaster- 47
-Venom- dual splinter cannons- 75
8 Mandrakes- 128
Sslyth- 27
-Venom- dual splinter cannons- 75
Ravager- 3 disintegrators- 125
Ravager- 3 dark lances- 140
Razorwing Jetfighter- 2 disintegrators- 135

PROPHETS OF FLESH PATROL:

Haemonculous- stinger pistol, ichor injector, electrocorrosive whip, Diabolic Soothsayer- 86
5 Wracks- ossefactor- 52
3 Grotesques- 105
-Raider- dark lance, grisly trophies, phantasm grenade launcher- 90

CULT OF THE RED GRIEF PATROL:

Succubus- splinter pistol, Blood Glaive, Hyper-Swift Reflexes
9 Wyches- shardnet and impaler, Hekatrix w. agonizer- 80
-Raider- dark lance, grisly trophies, phantasm grenade launcher- 90
8 Reaver Jetbikes- 2 heat lances, 2 grav talons- 182

TOTAL: 1994

Pre-Game Command Points: Alliance of Agony, Prizes of the Dark City
Total Command Points: 10 (-2, +d3)

Notes: I'm toying with the idea of replacing...well, something with blaster-toting Scourges, and with arming both Ravagers, not just one, with disintegrators. ALSO, has anyone had any success with a big mob of 20 or so Wyches coming out of a webway portal?

Criticism and feedback are always welcome.

Shouldn't you only have 8 CP? 5 from the Battalion and 0 from the Patrols.

Taking splinter racks and splinter cannon might not be optimal as the cannon does not profit from the rack. But if you have 10 points left at the end its fine.

And I would take dissies on the raider and the other ravager. They are in my opinion right now the overall better weapon. And you get darklight from blasters already.

Really? One of my regular opponents runs tank-heavy IG. Will dissies be able to pick up the slack in the anti-tank department if I drop the lances?

Patrols only give 0 CP? Damn, I must have missed that when I read the FAQ.

Not sure if intended as a tournament list, but if not, or your opponents are willing to accept a fourth detachment you could add a third patrol to get +4 CP.

If not you probably want a fairly major overhaul of the list to get a reasonable number of command points.

Will see your thoughts on the big structure issues before delving into the details.

That's 9 CP with +d3 to spare. Honestly, though, I feel uncertain about the 3 mini Reaver squads as I feel they may get shot down waaaaay too easily. I don't suppose anyone has any recommendations or suggestions on how to improve a revised list I'm already feeling uncertain about?

Unformatted Battlescribe lists burn my eyes.

Minimum Red Grief Reaver squads are designed for a first turn suicide charge or tie up of shooty unit. They aren't super resilient, or do that much damage. If you keep them like that, drop the Blasters and keep them cheap. I like two cheap units of three and a large unit for the stratagem hit, but think you have bigger priorities.

I feel you are a bit light on command points, with 7 + D3, as you have the extra relic and Alliance of Agony. It's difficult to get all three subfactions in usefully, so if you really want all three then you might have to accept being short on CP.

Flayed Skull to me should be all in Venoms to maximise the Obsession. You have two 10 man squads with one Raider, so is one on foot? Suggest changing to three Venoms instead. The Splinter Cannons on the 10 man squads and the extras on the Venoms aren't super efficient choices, but aren't terrible either. You could drop those.

I assume the second Raider is for the Wyches and Succubus? Are the Archons and Sslyth in a Venom? You could drop the Venom and run them on foot (they keep up surprisingly well and can join the ball of Grotesques if they can't).

The Covens look OK, I would just like to see more of them. They don't really need the Raider. Instead of the Blood Glaive, the Vexator Mask on the Haemonculus is a really good relic if you add a few more Grotesques. If you really want them in a transport, you could have it as part of the Flayed Skull detachment to get the faster movement.

Sorry about that, I'll try to stick to typed lists from now on.

I'm beginning to see why so many people just stick to two out of three factions-- if I want decent command points, I need to focus my army. Also, re: the uneven number of transports...that's a severe mistake on my part. I actually forgot a Raider for the Wyches. The actual plan was for almost everything to be on a transport (except the Mandrakes, that is). I now see that I may not be able to manage that.

Alright, so taking what I've learned just now from that previous disaster of a list, here is another, sticking this time to Kabals and Wych Cults, and this time going a tad bit more competetive (ie throwing in the obligatory Black Heart element), but also the Cult of the Cursed Blade as an experiment:

BLACK HEART SPEARHEAD:
Archon- blaster, huskblade, Writ of the Living Muse, Labyrinthine Cunning- 93
Ravager- 3 disintegrators- 125
Ravager- 3 disintegrators- 125
Ravager- 3 disintegrators- 125

FLAYED SKULL BATTALION:
Drazhar- 120
Archon- blaster, huskblade- 93
5 Kabalite Warriors- blaster- 47
5 Kabalite Warriors- blaster- 47
5 Kabalite Warriors- blaster- 47
Sslyth- 27
5 Scourges- 4 blasters- 128
Razorwing Jetfighter- splinter cannon, disintegrators- 145
Venom- dual splinter cannons- 75
Venom- dual splinter cannons- 75
Venom- dual splinter cannons- 75
Venom- dual splinter cannons- 75

CURSED BLADE BATTALION:
Succubus- archite glaive, blast pistol, Stimm Addict, Adrenalight, Serpentin- 60
Succubus- shardnet and impaler, Traitor's Embrace, Hypex- 55
7 Wyches- shardnet and impaler, Hekatrix w. power sword, Grave Lotus- 64
7 Wyches- shardnet and impaler, Hekatrix w. power sword, Splintermind- 64
20 Wyches- 2 shardnets and impalers, Hekatrix w. power sword, Adrenalight- 166
Raider- disintegrator- 80
Raider- disintegrator- 80

Total: 1991

Total CP: 14

The general idea is, the Kabal forces shoot stuff up, the Wyches tie up enemy assault units, the big Wych squad webways into the enemy backfield on turn to and tries to tie stuff up. Drazhar is just in there because I want to try him out, and because it felt weird throwing in three Archons. Two Archons is a rivalry, three Archons is someone getting stabbed during or after the battle. Also, the Traitor's Embrace Succubus is there purely to seek out nasty enemy characters and give them a big, explody hug. All Archons will hang together in the same Venom with Mr Sllyth, the Succubi will go in the Raiders, Drazhar will go in either as needed.

Thoughts? I have absolutely no idea how well the webway wych horde will work, so I may consider going back to Red Grief, in wych case (lol) I may drop it to 1 squad of 7 and two squads of 5, the latter of whom will share the same Raider, and then, with the points I've hopefully spared, throw in some Reavers. If I know I'm playing a casual game, I may even drop the Black Heart Archon, fold the Raiders back into Flayed Skull (so no Agents of Vect) and have more points to play with that way.

Other than Drazhar - and it sounds like you want to give him a try - that is mostly solid.

You could drop the Black Heart Archon and add the Ravagers to the Flayed Skull force, but with 14 command points and Labyrinthine Cunning, you will gain about 5 command points in a typical game from doing so, as well as more resilience on the Ravagers. Basically the Spearhead lets to use Agents of Vect 1-2 times a game for free, or save the command points for more Lightning-Fast Reactions and Fire and Fade fun.

I have largely used my Wych Battalion as a command point battery. I went three squads of five Wyches in two Raiders, with the spare space taking the Succubi and Archons. The HQs are really fast enough to keep up on foot if you want to do so though. The approach you have gone is fine, and the 20 Wyches should be an interesting distraction if you time their arrival right.

You could consider dropping the Sslyth and have the Archons tag along in the Wych Raiders instead. Then just a few tweaks to fit another five Kabalites with Blaster into the Archons' old Raider. Likely candidates are some Splinter Cannons, swapping the Scourges to Haywire or a couple of Wyches.

The Black Heart Archon could drop their Blaster, as they usually wont be close to enough of the enemy to make good use of it. You need to be on the battlefield to gain the CP benefit (transported is marginal in that sense) plus you want the Ravagers to be gaining the benefit of the Writ aura. It sounded like they were travelling with the others in the Venom.

The Wych Raiders presumably aren't in the Wych detachment - you could go Black Heart for the FNP roll or Flayed Skull for the faster movement and ignore cover for the Disintegrators.

One fun little addition, if you find you have the spare command points is giving at least one Archon a Phantasm Grenade Launcher. Then you can add in a Torment Grenade each turn, which usually will get you D3 mortal wounds against something in range of the Archon.
