 Using Kabalite Warriors in the Fight Phase?

PostSubject: Using Kabalite Warriors in the Fight Phase?   Sun Jun 10 2018, 03:43

What are your opinions? Is it better to leave them out of melee engagements considering they have the generic "if this unit has no melee weapon assume it has this" weapon (discounting whatever you choose to give your Sybarite), or do you prefer to fight with them?

keep em out of melee, unless you're screening for a more useful unit... Surround a vortex beast, or a maulerfiend with warriors, and laugh as he can only knock down 6pt models for a turn or two, lol

So would you recommend saving myself some points by just giving Sybarites a splinter rifle?

Definitely. If you think about it...the best weapon you could give him would be an agonizer (4pts I believe) which with his (2?) attacks, he has less than a 50% chance of dealing a single wound. for two more points, you could get another Kabalite warrior, which has a bit above a 50% chance of dealing a wound in rapid fire range

You make a good point there. Now I just have to explain to opponents that while it may look like he's for sure holding a pistol and agoniser, it's in fact a splinter rifle in disguise. Thanks for the advice!

I've not followed the math of kabalite vs sybarite with agoniser. Both have 2 attacks/shots, hit on 3s and wound on 4s but the agoniser has - 2AP.How do you find the rapid fire kabalite has a better chance of inflicting a wound?

I might have worded it weird...but this is what I meant...

at an additional 2 points, you get a 2nd kabalite warrior, which gives you 4 poisoned shots, instead of two poisoned CC attacks. AP is better, yes...but in combat, your other kabalites aren't going to be doing much, usually needing a 5+ to wound. I suppose you could argue that you get the pistol attack with the Sybarite too, giving you 3 poisoned attacks (2 melee, 1 shooting).. 10 points gives you 3 attacks, 12 points gives you four. Slightly better mathematically per point (3.333, vs 3), But it also allows you to be more effective outside of 12 inches

Sadly, they're best kept out of melee. They just don't have enough attacks.

It's a real shame because I'd love to get some usage out of them with the PT buff (and Archon aura), but they just don't do anything.

I'd also like to give some of them Agonisers, since I like the models, but again the Sybarites have so few attacks that they're just pointless.

I think it depends on what you're trying to kill in CC. On turn 3+, with an Archon nearby, I'd absolutely throw them into combat against a soft target like a guard squad. Or against a target that needs to be tied up so it can't shoot.

I have only ever run one squad of kabalites but I usually give the sybarite an agoniser. I acknowledge that it's not the best place for an agoniser, but I like being able to pile a lot of quality attacks onto one target. If I have 4-5 models with agonisers or electro-corrosive whips engaged with a squad, they'll start dropping quickly.
