The list is 2000pts and for an ITC event

It would be the first tournament that I played in and I would like some feed back to help me tune my list a bit.  I have also considered swapping out the Wych Cult patrol for some Craftworld support.  I was thinking a Farseer with Doom and Executioner with a 20 man guardian unit that I can deep strike in as well as a 5 man Dark Reaper unit.

I've seen a few lists now that have an Archon with a Blaster [17pts] but in the codex this is not a piece of wargear you can give them only the blast pistol. What am I missing?

For the Reavers in your list, if you have 8 models in the unit then you can only give them 2 blasters and 2 grav-talons. You need 9 in the unit to give them 3 of each. The codex says "For every three models in the unit, one may take..." I for one really like having Reavers in my list and being of the Cult of the Red Grief you know you can turn 1 charge most units. Tying up an important enemy shooty unit. You could opt for dropping the wyches and taking more Reavers, split them up into 3 units and turn the Detatchment into an Outrider Detatchment giving you 1 more CP and more units of Reavers to assault with on turn 1.

It looks like a soild list with plenty of options for dealing with both many bodies and armour too. Have you thought about spending 1 CP to get an extra Artefact of Cruelty and giving an Archon the Writ of the Living Muse? Having those re-rolls on 1s to wound is very nice and in a list such as yours it would always get value being that most units are Kabal of The Black Heart.

Battle scribe lists things funny. There are actually 12 models in the Reaver unit. There is 1 Arena Champ, 4 Reavers with Blasters, and 7 regular Reavers. Then the 4 Grav Talons we're added to the unit.

The Archon with the Blaster has that weapon from the Index.

Also, thanks for the input.

What are your thoughts on dropping the Red Grief patrol to add in a CWE patrol with a Farseer Skyrunner, a Warlock, 20 Guardians, and 5 Dark Reapers?

Thanks for clearing that up about the Blaster Archon.

I've no tabletop experience with those units so I can't really judge how they match up versus the reavers. I generally know Dark Reapers are very shooty, and with the inclusion of some psykers you get access to warp powers and deny the witch rolls. Guess you got to ask yourself what detatchment plays better with what you want to do strategy wise?

Reavers are great at tying up units you dont want shooting in their turn 1, if you go first, or turn 2 if you go second. Recently I have removed all the upgrades except the Agoniser from my Reavers. You realistically get 1, maybe 2 shots, with their weapons before they are in melee combat or dead. So I asked myself was the points worth it for the shots from special weapons on Reavers and the answer for me was no. I spent those points to get more bodies in the unit but taking out the number you have would give more options on where to spend them. Reavers are decent in combat and at shooting but for me the best thing about them to getting into someone face with 6 or more T5 W2 models in Turn 1, they do some damage but I'm just looking them to hang in there and force my opponent to deal with them. Charging heavy shooty units means if the enemy falls back they wont be able shoot that turn and that's still a win for me.

So if tying up particular enemy unit(s) is more valuble to you than more shooty stuff given by the Asuryani detatchment then stick with the Reavers.

Umm, the index also lists the cost for an Archon at 54 points, and you clearly have that correct for the codex.

There's a whole flowchart from GW showing how you include legacy gear from the index that isn't in the codex, so using index gear is legit. For now.
Personally I'd split the reavers into 3 units and make the patrol an outrider for an extra CP and the ability to cause extra disruption with multiple units either charging in or needing to be focused down.
@nihilisticgod an agoniser on cheap tackling reavers - you are already S4 AP-1 so you really aren't getting much for your 4 points. You wound t3 worse and T4 the same with 1 point of AP more for 4 points. Plus you're likely tackling a vehicle so the agoniser wounds on 6's rather than 5s with (free) blade vanes.

@yellabelly you do have a point, in some situations the agoniser isn't getting you value and can even be worse than bladevanes. I held on to it in my list on the off chance I was in melee with one of the high T infantry/monster units on the board but even attacking into T4 if the target has a decent armour save the extra -1AP is nice to have. Also I'm usually only playing a smaller limit points game so I just have the one unit of 6 reavers to maximise the use from +1T drug.

I understand why @jjw771 went for one huge unit. That +1T drug helps a lot with their survivability (i'm assuming that's the drug they would pick) and if you want to use certain stratagems on the reavers then it's a huge number of models getting the benefit. But having one huge unit in your 2k list decreases the effectiveness of what they are good at which is tying things up so the rest of you army can do it's thing.

My opinion : Your list put a Patrol instead of a Bataillon so you miss out 5 Command Points to retrieve points from other units.

Flayed Skull is really more interesting for the Kabalite than the Black Heart due to the fact that it removes cover and is deadly for Eldar Scouts for example and reroll's 1 and more mouvement but you need that Vect Stratagem right ? Smile

An Archon with Blaster is never lost, in contrary an Archon with a Blast Pistol is "i think" useless even if you rush him into contact of ennemy units.

Your list otherwise seems competitive.

@NihilisticGod, you're right, the idea with the 12 man Reaver squad is to be able to use the flyby strategem and buff their toughness with the combat drugs.
