PostSubject: 2k Alliance of Agony for Tournament   Mon May 07 2018, 23:29

So after waiting patiently for the new book, then kicking the door in at my local GW to get my hands on it, I've spent some time looking over lists on here, looking at my collection and deliberating what I want to build I came up with the following

++ The Void Serpents [106 PL, 1994pts] ++

+ No Force Org Slot +
Alliance of Agony (1 CP)
Detachment Attribute: Kabal of the Flayed Skull
Court of the Archon: Lhamean, Medusae, Sslyth, Sslyth
+ HQ +
Archon: Blast Pistol, Famed Savagery, Huskblade, Warlord (Archon)
+ Troops +
Kabalite Warriors
. 6x Kabalite Warrior
. Kabalite warrior with Heavy Weapon: Splinter Cannon
. Kabalite Warrior with special weapon: Blaster
. Kabalite Warrior with special weapon: Blaster
. Sybarite: Splinter Rifle
+ Elites +
Mandrakes: 9x Mandrake, Nightfiend
+ Flyer +
Razorwing Jetfighter: Twin splinter rifle
. 2 Dark Lances: 2x Dark Lance
Razorwing Jetfighter: Twin splinter rifle
. 2 Dark Lances: 2x Dark Lance
+ Dedicated Transport +
Raider: Dark Lance, Splinter Racks
Venom: Splinter Cannon, Twin splinter rifle

+ No Force Org Slot +
Detachment Attribute: Cult of the Red Grief
+ HQ +
Succubus: Archite Glaive, Blast Pistol, Hyper-swift Reflexes, The Blood Glaive
+ Troops +
Wyches
. Hekatrix: Agoniser, Blast Pistol
. 16x Wych
. 3x Wych with Wych Weapon: Shardnet and impaler
+ Fast Attack +
Reavers:
. Arena Champion: Agoniser
. 5x Reaver
. 3x Reaver with special weapon (up to 1 for 3 models): Heat lance
. 3x Grav-Talon

+ No Force Org Slot +
Detachment Attribute: Prophets of Flesh
+ HQ +
Haemonculus: Diabolical Soothsayer, Electrocorrosive whip, Splinter Pistol
+ Troops +
Wracks
. Acothyst: Electrocorrosive whip
. 2x Wrack with special weapon (up to 1 for 5 models): Ossefactor
. 7x Wracks
+ Heavy Support +
Cronos
. 2x Cronos 2x Spirit Probe
Talos
. 3x Talos: 2x Macro-Scalpel, 2x Splinter Cannons

++ Total: [106 PL, 1994pts] ++

So the idea is simple, playing to the strength of each detachment;
The Wych mob plus Succubus run down the table aiming to chop up the softest targets or at least tangle up a possible hard target
The Haemonculus plus the Wracks try blocking a target with their sheer toughness
The Pain Engines basically re-enact the old Corpsethief Claw formation (aaah the memories)
The Kabal Warriors harrass targets from the deck of the Raider
The Razorwings and Reavers take out vehicles then focus down tough targets
The Mandrakes pop out the shadows and Baleblast to their hearts content
The Archon and his Court sit in the Venom and drop in at some point with the Screaming Jets Stratagem and decapitate the enemy Warlord

Hopefully will be testing this list on Friday vs Deathguard (boooooooo). My opponent is a tough nut to crack and I consider a minor loss a major win vs him. I haven't tailored this list to face him as I am aiming to take it to a local tournament at end of July.

All comments, criticism and questions are welcome.
Shall let you know the result if he turns up Friday.

I'm just not sold on aoa being worth it anymore not that batallions give +5 cp.

I see your point but this was more of a "I want this and this and this..." list and was happy it all fit. By no means am I maxing it to get the most from it in terms of CP, damage, etc. that's what my Ultramarines are for lol.
In the end I just love the idea of the Alliance and I had to go down that route.
My old list was Kabal/Coven so I was glad I had incentive to add Wyches

You should get rid of the splinter rack. It's expensive and rarely working.

@Ashcrow, why would you not take AoA?? Especially in this case when using Diabolic Soothsayer. It is a free WL trait for the succubus with a potential 1-2 more CPs. FREE!

For me it's an autotake every time.

I think he was more talking about taking 3 patrols, rather than using the AoA strategem

When i first saw Splinter Racks I thought they were a must have.

It is much better to spend the 10 pts on gettting a splinter cannon upgrade for one of your Razorwings. It means more reliable shots instead of hoping to roll eight or more 6s with splinter racks. In most cases you are going to get your 12 shots from the Splinter Cannon, which is 8 more than the twin splinter rifles and at a 6" better range for the rapid fire.

I still think AoA is good choice for the Drukhari but not necessarily a must have and that is what is so great about the new codex, there are many ways to build a list. The extra obsessions, extra artefacts of cruelty and extra unit choices (Talos, Reavers) are what I like about going the AoA route.

So I played it and it was a draw when we ended at end of turn 3 (opponent had to head home) and I learnt a lot from it.
1) Most importantly I need to take time and learn stratagems, can fire them off without thought for my Ultramarines but was clueless with Drukhari ones.
2)I have no idea what I'm doing with Wyches, I held back first turn due to his Plagueburst Crawler. When I did get them in combat though I found their attacks so underwhelming. Yes you get lots of dice to roll but that's it.
3) My bikes were awesome, they did however struggle to take down the Plagueburst Crawler with 3 Heat Lances at short range! Tempted to switch to Blasters in my next game.
4) Wracks are so overlooked! I ran mine with the Haemonculus supporting them and T5 annoyed the hell out of my opponent.
5) My Talos held up his 3 Foetid Bloat Drones AND his Daemon Prince for 2 turns and only just lost one model for the price of a drone and a near dead Daemon Prince.
6) The Cronos supporting them didn't have the strength to do the damage to then heal the Talos, which was my aim.
7) Mandrakes.... heheheheheh... Popped them out the shadows behind his Typhus, Character and Poxwalker deathstar and proceeded to snipe his characters one at a time!
8 ) Warriors on the Raider were very effective but can see why it's worth dropping the Splinter Racks.
9) Razorwings!? I didn't know what the hell I was doing with them, yes it was fun watching them zip back and forth but the Dark Lances weren't even chipping his Plagueburst Crawler's paint job!

I will stick with the AoA cause I like the idea behind it to much.
The tournament I was planning to attend released the rules pack and stated that you can't take more than 2 of the same detachment so I've had to drop out cause I don't have the time or money to change the list and get the models built and painted in time. Which also killed my enthusiasm for a day or two, I like having a goal in mind with any army I work on and that was my goal.
I'm taking a long hard look at my list and thinking about what I can change to take it away from the Raiding Force design but keep it a Alliance of Agony army.
Any advice in regards to units, stratagems, etc is more than welcome!
Thanks to those who took time to read and reply!

You could take a Kabal of the Black Heart Spearhead Detachment (Ravager Bubble around Archon with Writ of the Living Muse is great) along with a Cult Battalion and a Coven Battalion. Or if you want to include more expensive units of a certain type and dont have the points for two Battalions you could make one of them an outrider or vanguard.

One thing I am looking at at the moment, feel free to call me crazy, is a Kabal Vanguard detachment, Coven Spearhead and Wych Outrider. I lose 1cp over the Raiding Party option and don’t have any troops choices but it’s looking kinda lethal at the moment. I shall post the list soon, on my phone at the moment and the list is on the PC.

4) yes they are. I always give mine an Electrocorrosive Whip. Tangling them with a multiple wound character is a bit easier, and only 2 pts more than an Agoniser.
5) I love Talos for that meat shield goodness. I give mine the Prophets of Flesh obsession for the 4+ invun.
6) For 1 CP you can heal a Talos for d3 wounds, so long as there is a haemonculus within 3". I can't remember the name of the stratagem right now.
9) get some dissy on that thing. Ive had opponents comment how it doesn't seem to do much. I had to explain it spreads it's love around instead of focusing one unit. Splinter cannon on infantry, DL or dissy on armour or high wound units, missile on whatever you feel like. So i think the Razorwing is deceptive even though it does a fair amount of work for me every game.

Reavers are the true gem of this codex in my opinion. In my smaller list (1250) I run 6 of them with 2 blasters, 2 grav-talons and an Agoniser. If you can get Cult of Red Grief obsession on them that's a turn 1 charge no sweat. And with +1T from combat drugs they are much harder to deal with quickly.
