I admit I haven't actually played a lot of 8ed yet, but it seems to me that bubblewrapping your good stuff to protect from first turn deep strikers is a useful thing. Indeed, there are even some people advocaating taking infiltrators like space marine scouts or craftworld rangers to block most of the board from enemy deep strike.

However, Drukhari appear to have the tools to deal with bubblewrap. Since we now have two different ways of dealing damage during the movement phase, and deep strikers are placed at the end of the phase, we have the ability to wipe a bubblewrap unit and hit the formerly protected good stuff underneath.

The Void Mine
The Voidraven flies over a unit, and each model in the squad gets a mortal wound on a 3+. Well, for up to ten dice, anyway. Since it's dependent on the number of models in the target unit, best to start with this one.

When used on a 5 man scout squad, you should expect 1-2 survivors. Irritating but not insurmountable with:

Eviscerating Flyby
Any flying Cult unit - in practice, Reavers and Hellions. For each model in your unit, and the use of a command point, a 5+ causes a mortal wound on an infantry unit you advance over. In theory Raiders and Venoms can use it (heck, even the Voidraven if it was bought for the Cult), but with only one dice generated for the single vehicle model, why bother?

A unit of 6 Reavers is probably enough to clean up what's left of a 5 man squad after the Voidraven, and a unit of 12 will probably polish off the remains of a 10 man squad. With 26 - 28" of movement to play with, you've got a great chance to reach your target. And if you play Cult of the Red Grief, you may even get a charge off into the main target of your attack afterward, in conjunction with your deep striking units.

If your opponent is brave enough to set up his infiltrators within 14 - 15" of a mob of 20 Hellions, he's going to have a bad time.

Using both together creates a very good chance of removing a unit of 5 - 10 models in the movement phase, opening the board to deep strike insertion. Just look out for the Auspex Evil or Very Mad

Any other ideas around bubblewrap, either offensive or defensive?

The logic seems very sound, I can certainly see this working!

Sounds interesting, I'll definitely keep this in mind.

That's an interesting and creative idea.

Probably only situationally useful, and the downside is that you have used your Void Mine on a presumably low value sacrificial unit instead of the really exciting stuff behind it. But if the situation was right, and by getting rid of the bubblewrap you could get your first turn charge on Dark Reapers or something like that it would be magnificent.

The issue I see is that that really, screening doesn't affect us that much other than removing Infiltrators (Nurglings, Rangers, Scouts) off objectives and providing more area for Webway blob drops.

All our transports fly over the screens anyway if you're delivering assault units that way.

The exception here is the Covens stuff which is probably footslogging, but they're slow enough that you can use a turn of shooting with all your poison to remove screens anyway.

Seems pretty situationally useful, wasting the voidmine in particular on a screening unit seems like a waste when as others mentioned our vehicles just fly over any screens. I'd much rather use the voidmine and eviscerating flyby on something that's tougher and has an invul save to get through, like stormshield terminators.

Eviscerating flyby can be a bit underwhelming, unless you do it en masse, which in turn drains your cp pool. Combined with a voidraven it could work better. Just a shame that almost I never get first turn and my opponents always shoot down my voidraven before it can drop the bomb.

Eviscerating fly by is wonderfully efficient on reavers and hellions, but I wouldn't use it on planes...

Has anyone used Eviscerating Flyby to kill a character yet? It has no targeting restrictions, so if you can get a unit of 12 Reavers to buzz a bubble-wrapped character, the sucker will get sliced by every reaver.

I've used the Void Mine + Eviscerating Flyby combo against my friend's Necron last night

I bombed and then flow over a unit of 20 Warriors guarding an Overlord and killed 14 of them. Two more died after being poisoned by a Venom nearby. Since the 4 Warriors left were going to flee automatically I ignored them and charged the Overlord with my +1A drugged bikes, killing him with the four Grav-Talon and CC attacks

Void mine has a max of 10 I think. Wink
