 which Wrack gear?

As I'm just building my first bunch of Wracks, I wondered what your thoughts are about their gear.

I plan to run 5 Wracks in a venom.. Ossefactor on troops and agonizer + Liquifier gun on Acothys? Something else?

What about a group of 10 wracks in a rider, what would be best gear for them?

I'm toying with the idea of 10 wracks in a raider with 3 liquifier guns (1 on Acothyst, 2 on other wracks). Sure, it's only S3, but that's 3D6 autohits. It will probably cause at least a few MEQ casualties, and definitely wreck GEQ.

I'm personally looking at 3 builds:

Either:

5 wracks w/ an Ossefactor

5 wracks w/ 2 Liquifier guns + a melee weapon on the Acothyst if you feel like it (I usually don't bother ever giving squad leaders anything)

There doesn't seem to be much point in running 10 man squads unless you specifically want to use The Prophets of Flesh Stratagem. As 2 5 man squads lets you bring more gear for the same cost.

@Krayd You could bring 2 squads of 5 w/ 2 Liquifiers each for 4D6 autohits. I will definitely be trying this when I pickup some wracks.

That does sound kind of fun. I suppose you would determine the AP of each gun separately?

Assuming that averages out to a 2, that’s 3 dead marines, or 7 dead guardsmen. 44 for the guns, 14.7 points per unsaved wound, or 6.3 vs GEQ. Not fantastic. Why isn’t it S4 or poison?

To be completely honest. I have no idea why its not (at least lore-wise) BUT I guess its to balance it out in game-play terms.

Its definitely looks like a fun unit, I play mostly fluffy lists and games (most of the people at the club I go to play fluffy lists as well); so it should be decently effective.

Its a shame that The Torturer's Craft is fight phase only. It would have been hilarious to have shredding liquifiers melting whole units of marines.

Well, on average you'll kill 5.25 guardsmen or 2.33 marines, and your squad costs 123pts (not counting the Raider).

A Kabalite squad with 2 Shredders will kill 8 guardsmen or 3.7 marines on average, and for just 76pts.

I know the Wracks are better in combat . . . but this just makes me think they should stick to that. Razz

Well, assuming that you charge the unit that you shoot at, that's an additional 2.33 dead marines or 4.67 dead guardsmen (let's assume no casualties from overwatch because you charged your raider in first), for a total of 4.66 dead marines or 9.92 guardsmen. That makes for a decent chance at further marine casualties from a failed morale check (especially if LD modifiers are in play - for example, if you shot the squad with a PGL from the raider that the wracks dropped out of), and definite further losses for guard.

I plan on footslogging my wracks most of the time, which means I'm going to go for the ossefactor pretty much every time, since at least that will let them take a couple pot shots while walking up the board. For the acyothyst I'll just keep him nice and cheap, just give him a venom blade.

Not even a hex rifle? Sure it sucks, but it’s only 3 more points than that venom blade. Even with -1 to hit from moving, it only needs to frag one guardsman to pay for itself, and who knows, it may surprise you.

I think wracks as a close combat unit are much more suited to "fly up jump out, piss on their parade with acid, then charge".

I wouldn't use them as a gunboat unit. Maybe 5 in a venom with an ossefactor as a harassment/ objective grabbing unit.

Well, you *can* fire from a raider, if there is no other option.

But generally, I'm going to disembark them, fire 3 liquifiers + raider dissie + raider PGL at target unit, charge raider in to soak overwatch, and then charge the wrack unit in.
