it's about the fact that riptides are, again, completely out of control, and there is no reason not to spam them if your wallet can support it.

This is pretty far from the truth.

I play against Tau pretty much every other week. The new riptide is good sure, but it relies on branched-nova charge (choose two nova charge options) and stimulant injector (use the riptides top profile) stratagems. As you can only use each stratagem once per turn/phase they are self limiting as they can only buff one riptide. Because of this it rarely makes sense to run more than a single riptide. It's definitely not the riptide wing of 7th that's for sure.

Eh. I'm just being salty as hell towards those 7th edition "players" that thought paying 500 bucks for those Riptides made them "commited hobbyist", then hop from table to table with a huge pile of unpainted junk while answering "my army is fluffy, my army is fluffy" everytime somebody tries to imply that maybe they should stop wasting their money on power gaming.

The beginning of 8th had them crying for their precious toys becoming worthless. Now i'm starting to see the spam again. That's why I consider Riptides to be the T'au cancer. But it's probably just my frustration towards that attitude that makes me overstate the power of the unit.

The best part is how players of other races will look at the power of the DE Codex and think "I want some of that." But they are still Dark Eldar at the end of the day and unless they are played intelligently (and with a twist of cruelty) the force will get tabled. All those weakened Kabals fresh pickings for the existing ones in true DE fashion. Wink

Of course we will teach them to play their forces off the table, but it won't be a walk in the park with a Riptide backing them up. I watched a new DE player go from making army breaking errors to a good player who started beating my Kabals reliably once they learned LOS limiting, target priority and threat bubbles. I still pulled a few "DE Tricks" with my Scions though to catch them off guard!

thats understandable, i just started a tau army and as viable as they are, i want to stay as far a away from riptides as i possibly can, they dont fit the fluff imo, and certainly do not fit my cadre Very Happy
