Hello all,

So my brother and I have decided to start a slow grow skirmish style campaign, using open war cards. The idea is to grow an army while trying new units / weapons out.
He's decided to play with the new Custodes while i'll be using mainly Harlequins (with a bit of CWE scattered throughout)
Basically we start with 300 points to spend. Completely unbound (but still get army rules), Must have 1 HQ to start and a further 1HQ per 6 other choices. Also must have 1 Troop option per 3 other choices. Models are bought individually and added to their respective units. Which means we can have understrength units.
We will play 3 games a round and after each round youll get a further 100 points to spend (more if you are victorious in the previous round)

For 300 points im thinking of running;

HQ
Troup Master w/ Fusion Pistol + Caress (75)

TROOPS
4x Players w/ Fusion Pistol + Caress (124)

TRANSPORT
Starweaver (99)

Fusion pistols over shuriken so i can actually wound the T5, 3W, 2+ save Custodes. Same with Caress over Embrace. That way i'll be wounding on 4's instead of 5's rerolling, and the loss of AP wont matter as Custodes will have 4++.

1st Is there anything you would do different, i.e. loadout or models.
2nd What would you add in after this? Im thinking 2 Skyweavers

I would consider a shadowseer as both a means of defense against his psychic phase and as a way to give yourself extra flexibility ... and smite ... Mortal wounds will help finish off those already hard to kill units.

It’s definitely in my plan to get one but with 300 points it’s really hard to squeeze in. I know he will have a shield captain and 3 custodian guard. The 2+/4++ is a pain which is why everyone has fusion pistols. Skyweavers are also in my plan

There’s not a lot I’d do different.

Not a lot to do different either.

Troupe Master’s a solid choice, as are the pistols and caresses.

Perhaps I’d bring some more bodies over the Star Weaver?  Harlies are fast, but Starweavers are VERY survivable.

Shadowseer would be my next step, but it’s an expensive model, so perhaps 2 Spear-Warlocks instead?
Forget buffs, just nerf your opponent into the ground.  The nerfed smite is a bit of a no-sell though.

How useful would Skyweavers actually be, though?  I’d assume Zephyrglaive and Shuriken Cannons, of course.  Their objective grabbing is strong, though.

Have you got Warlord’s?

We have got warlorda and traits. Think they will be fixed per 3 game round.
Shadowseer is certainly in he next stage or 2. With twilight pathways getting that starwraver in fusion range turn 1.
The idea of a e skyweavers is as you say a bit of longer range for and fast objective grabbers. I’m thinking with a mix of fusion and Shuriken I should be able to take them down.

Something I forgot to mention was that if a unit is completely destroyed in 2 out of 3 battles then they can either be replaced or changed for something else. And there are potential bonus points for how many games out of there round are won.

How would a solitaire do against Custodes do we think?
